Rowboats PLZ

  • OMG i have so many ideas for content and its all tied together, but something that isnt that tied to everything else (but could be) is Rowboats. I WANT ROWBOATS.

    Le Rowboat Design:

    • small rowboat (like seen on literally EVERY decently sized island)
    • One seat near the back for rowing the boat (yes i think it should be a one person job, having 2 people do it wouldn't allow solo players to use it)
    • Contact points on the outside of the boat to push or pull it off or onto the beach
    • Maybe a small lantern on the front of it, something you could turn off if ye need to, or turn on if ye rowin' through a dark spooky cave (Ooooo)
    • Acts like a ship in the way that you can get a chest or whatever on it and drop it and itll just stay on the rowboat until you pick it up or scuttle it (get to that later)

    Spawning Le Rowboat:

--- I think there should be a Hook on the back of the Galleon (attached to the balcony) and the Sloop (next to the map table at the rear of the boat). When you hover over the hook it should saw something like "Press [button] to Spawn Rowboat". When you press it should do the little animation cut thingy like if you got stuck and are teleportation back to your ship, but you should spawn in the Rower's Seat (driver's seat) in the rowboat off the back of the ship. From there you can do whatever your pirate heart desires.

    Examples of possible Rowboat Uses:

    • Moving Loot from island to ship in one go
    • Moving Cages from ship to island to ship in one go (would be nice, devs, plz..)
    • Moving Explosive Barrels and/or Crewmates to the desired location (preferable to an enemy ship)
    • Moving Loot FROM a ship (probably someone elses')

    Returning Le Rowboat:
--- Once you acquired the booty from wherever it may have been, and ye hoisted it from the rowboat to the ship, what now? Well i think there should be a Scuttle Rowboat option in the my crew menu if the Rowboat is spawned. Something that'll act like scuttling the ship where you have to vote for it, but maybe not requiring everyone (in case someone decides to steal it, crewmate or not). Dealing with loot thats onboard the Rowboat when its scuttled, it should act like a normal ship, it fills, it sinks, it despawns, the loot floats up to the top of the water.

  • TADA, thats my idea of a rowboat in Sea of Thieves, PLEASE reply if i missed something or you wanna share on ideas.

  • They should be just laying around on islands for anyone to use, but not spawnable or equipable.

  • 100% Yes

  • @mmountain The only problem with having that be the case is not every ship would have access to that, and how would you transfer them between islands?

You don't. Most big islands should have one.

    Surfboard? :D

  • Must be in the cards it has a picture of one on the cover of the game

  • @mmountain True, idk its just a thought i had when i went to an island with a bunch of chests and was like "if only i could get all of these to my ship in one go..."

  • I like the idea. It would be risky, as I'm sure the rowboat would sink very easily, and I would hope that it moves slowly, not nearly as fast as a ship with sails. It would fall into the whole risk vs reward theme. Sure you can move all your loot off your ship at once, but if you get caught in the open you're SOL. It would be interesting if they could design it to where regular weapons could possibly damage the rowboat? Maybe smaller sized holes that can't be patched?

  • This is a little touchy cus i don't imagine that the ships we currently have were MEANT to carry a rowboat. They could just spawn it in, and have it sink when the ship is out of visual range, or another rowboat is spawned by the same ship, but that would break immersion, and Rare doesn't want that. You could do as a previous poster suggests, and have them already floating at certain islands as a random spawn. I can see that working quite well. In the end, there should be room for four people in total. One on the back, one on the front, and two (or one being capable of doing the same thing but slower) in the middle doing the actual rowing. Maybe the Man-o-War could be built around the idea of lowering and hoisting a rowboat, as it's larger frame would have trouble getting too close to islands.

None of the ships are designed around holding a rowboat, but having the ability to just spawn it in if you wanna use it would prove much more useful then having to go through the process of lowering it, unhooking it, then rehooking it and hoisting it when you get back to the ship. Also i feel getting 2 separate entities to reattach to eachother specially at sea would be much harder. --- I feel it would break immersion about as much as scuttling the ship, you'd be gaining more practicality which would be worth the small if any loss of immersion. --- Regarding the Man o War, a Warship, built for WAR. i dont think something with the most firepower should be the only one with a personal Rowboat, but who knows. -Gubs

This would be something i didnt think of but yeah i do think these thoughts are nice, thoughts

  • I would be thrilled with any new boats. Though I would love a single person rowboat with a forward facing cannon and no supply barrels that respawns on your main boat every 5 or so minutes when sunk.

  • I think it could be better done then just "spawning" a boat on the side.
A small upside-down boat fits easily behind the helm of the galleon, and I don't really think the sloop needs one due to being much more maneuverable and (more importantly) being able to sail in much shallower water.
A small crane could fold up and out of the back of the galleon, and drop the small boat (preferably in a position where dropping loot off the balcony would be easy), the hook and crane would stay behind the ship until the row boat locked into it again, gives you reason to return the row boat if you want to use it again (so you can't just sail past an outpost, drop the rowboat, and do the same thing again on the next island)

  • I suggest a row boat weeks ago so yes I'm "on board" with it too.

However I thought to winch it up and down beside the captain's cabin veranda. Only for galleons as it's not really needed for sloops.

The row boat could take all 4 crew members each with an oar in their inventory. However the more loot you find will determine how many crew members can actually fit in the boat on the return trip to your galleon.
The rear of the boat could have two fixed oars for a solo player to be able to row the loot back alone.... in a straight line. lol

wouldn't make much sense to have the oar in the player inventory... and row boats were never really a multi-person thing... you turn the boat by paddleing with 1 hand harder then the other...

  • @sir-rhavi The idea behind suggesting an oar in your inventory was for more than one person on the row boat at a time.
One person at each side up front could paddle. Even for a single person.
Otherwise a single player on the boat can row with two oars like normal.

a row boat has fixed oars, canoe is the multi oar thing, and oars arn't generally something you can put in your pocket... why would you need 4 people to row a dinghy for like 50 meters? just seems overly complicated.

  • @sir-rhavi Okay, fair enough.

  • Yes plz but limit the number of chests on it at one time to 2 and one for a crew mate to hold as a passenger so a max of 3 for a 2 man rowboat. Good idea
