Put an end to server merging

  • Server merging has little to no benefits that I've seen while playing Sea of Thieves with my friends. We were in the same server for multiple hours doing voyages, turning in chests and waiting for the skull to arrive the next hour on one of the forts. We knew it would arrive within the next 15 minutes, as we noted the time of the last skulls appearance 2hrs. and 45 minutes before then. Unfortunately, before the next skull could pop up on our server, we were merged with a different server, losing out on a skull fort that we had intended to complete. In fact, we decided to stay on this server and see if it would pop up at the normal time of our last server (15 minutes), and it took an extra two hours to show up. I believe server merging presents many problems that ruin the games flow, and this happens to be one crucial aspect of it.

  • Also sucks when you're on a good server with no connection issues, then you merge, and spend the next 15 minutes rubberbanding like crazy before you give up and quit the game.

It's like... "there were free spots on this server??? No s**t! About to be more free spots in a minute."

Server merging has many benefits, It stops players from staying ina empty server where they can take full advantage of the sea / skull forts

It also compliments social interaction with other players and keeps the game forever going and also makes sure that you're playing the game they intend you to play it.

If you're wanting to wait that long for one fort that offers 10k Gold I'm baffled if you really want gold do merchant voyages I've earned over 200k in less than 3 days from them alone with basic playtime.

Pretty sure I stated we were doing voyages until the next skull popped up. Also, server merging can bring people with bad connection over and cause many issues

  • Once we sailed away from the fort with the key to come back later. The server merged, the treasures were gone.

  • I've never experienced a server merge, so I am not fully aware of the mechanics involved - but it sounds like some of the complaints might be addressed by indicating to the player that they are going to server merge in X minutes. Give players time to react and to ensure that they are not negatively impacted by the merge.

  • What the heck is a server merger? And when does it happen? Does it happen on Xbox? Is that what happens when the "new world" blah blah message comes up?

  • My issue is not being able to play with a group of friends higher then 4 on the same server. Like I want my own sloop and find their galleon without issue.

  • Server merges are horrible. I really hope it gets fixed. We constantly check the horizons for ships and when we think we’re in the clear out of nowhere a ship appears and kills us and we didn’t see it coming. The lag spikes are wonderful too.

  • @cr-trooper-014 yes, that message indicates a server merge has occurred.

I've gotten a little benefit from them, where I had a half finished gold hoarder X marks the spot done that yielded all seafarer's until the merge... Server merge reseat the map, and when I went back to the first X's, two were Captain's, and the already dug up loot was still in my hold!
