Amount of rep for Legend.

  • So, i'm dying to know, if there is a way any dev would be willing to answer this pre/on release day.

I don't wanna start my game being directionless as to how to become pirate legend.

Is it strictly linked to getting a certain amount of rep with each company, or one? If so, how much rep with one/each? Will you need to find some obscurely hidden npc to talk to that only 5% of players will find, or will there be a clearer route of progression? Will you ever tell us the exact details of what to do to get the rank?

I don't mean to bother you, and i know some may considering it spoling the experience, but if i start playing, and let's say i think to get pirate legend i need 30 rep with each, then i do that, but it turns out i only need like 50 on two of them, i've just wasted my time. I know the game is about fun, but wasting your time isn't fun. Thanks for your time.

Edit: I'm watching some footage from the devs. It seems you're saying you can pick your playstyle, so another question poses itself. Can you reach pirate legends by only leveling one company? Because it seems against the freedom of the game to make players who prefer digging for treasure go kill some skeleteons, or ferry cargo. As a solo player, i much prefer gold hoarders, as it seems easier to go on 1-3 chest missions ata time, then ferry 7 animals.

There was a statement from rare that it was possible to reach pirate legend Status in closed beta, with only the gold hoarders in the game. So I'm not sure you need rep at the others

  • @skaary27 I hope this is true, because that's a relief. I don't see myself wanting to do anything else than gold hoarders missions, as digging for treasure is my slice of pie. Any source on this info?

  • @capt-player
Will look for it and post it here

  • @skaary27
From what I gather they said the area was in the beta, but no one could access it because it was impossible to become a Legend.

    @Capt-Player
I would love to know the answer to this as well, I think it is likely we wont get anything concrete until its launched. I hope we don't have to max out all three factions, (although I hope to do this anyways) although it may be getting them all beyond a certain threshold (like say level 25). Although its all conjecture.

pretty please, that would be interesting

  • @oneeyedkillah I suppose getting it to a certain level is fine, but not too high for all 3. As a solo player i can forsee it getting hard to do shipments of 8 different things at a time for the traders, unless it's a turn-in-on-dock kind of thing.

  • @clumsy-george I am very aware. I didn't mean wasting my time in the way you're thinking, i mean having fun working towards one goal, but then it turns out that goal was actually wrong, E.G working towards 50 rep with gold hoarders, if you only need 25 with each company. You get me? I'll have fun, I just wanna have fun while moving in the right direction.

  • I would also hope they would give us a choice. Say, either 30 with all three, 50 with two of them, or like max (Say, 100?) with one, so it keeps the freedom aspect and lets you choose your way of becoming pirate legend. They've said getting treasure is a big part of it, so i'd suppose they'll let players dedicated to only gold hoarders, traders, order, etc. Let everyone get legend their respective ways.

"It's seamlessly hidden in the world. It's not loading off a menu. It was already in our closed beta, but no one could become pirate legend and unlock it—but it was there."

For me it means it was possible to get Pirate Legend, or do I get this wrong ?

    Source :

  • @skaary27 I think that mostly means you physically wasn't able to become pirate legend. If it was the fact that noone had the time to, i think they'd word it like ''But noone was able to'' instead of ''noone could'', could, in this case meaning physically not able to.

  • @capt-player
well yeah its not clearly written :/

  • @capt-player

Pirate legend status is your overarching goal in Sea of Thieves. Rare has alluded to this before in one of the game's countless community videos—it's unlocked by building your reputation with the game's three trading companies, as well as by proving yourself to other NPCs who will populate the game's world at launch.

    Same article.
Sorry for my false info :/

  • @skaary27 It is very clearly written it says " but no one could become pirate legend and unlock it" what does that mean, other then no one could become a pirate legend?

  • @skaary27 It's alright. We never know, they may be saying ''ONE'' of the games 3 companies. You don't always word things the way you want too. I've read that article, and every other article from dec. 14-15 and feb. 13-15, lol. I really hope they'll stick to their promise of freedom, and let us choose.

  • My question is what is the max reputation level for each trading company? It was 25(?) in the beta but I hope it goes higher.

  • @capt-player I heard it is over 9000.

  • @xcalypt0x We've seen atleast 30 in promotional footage, more specifically the 14th of dec. livestream i think.

    @TheJolirouge Nice dead meme.

  • @capt-player I feel like 30 is too low. Some people will get that in 1 day lol

  • @capt-player I would expect that you need to level each faction and probably max them all out. How can you be a pirate legend if 2/3 of the factions don't know you at all.

But to your point of playing as you wish... no one is forcing you to become a pirate legend. You could choose that you just enjoy sailing and digging up treasure. If you want to do legendary quests you can join someone's party who does get legend. You're not locked out of the content, but there has to be some incentive for people to play who want goals to achieve. Kind of like in RL you can choose to do whatever you want, but there will be limitations based on what you do for work.

  • I sure hope it's higher than 30. If you play pretty dedicated, it's not that hard to get from 1 to 20 in just a weekend.

I personally played around 10 hours during Scale Test and was "this" close to level 20 with the Gold Hoarders.

I would hate to see 35% of the playerbase being a Legend already after one week of the game being Live.

I hit level cap 25 in closed beta (before the stress tests). I hit 23 in the stress tests.

  • @papasohan I know it's silly expecting you to not have to do much work.

I'm not saying it should be easy, i'm all on-board for it to be super hard, i just think it should be so hard that you can't have fun on the way there if you play a specific way. I've made another thread covering some of these things. My biggest concern is that it will be impossible for solo players to get the rank. (Don't get me wrong, i'm not asking for them to change the game to work for solo-players, i'm just suggesting something.) In some of the promotional footage we've seen that f.ex. the traders will have you transport up to like 8 items at a time, and when you can only cash in 8 at a time, and on f.ex. dragontooth, the turn-ins are so far in on the island, it's gonna be a struggle turning in every item. Or with the order, where you would have to walk back an forth a whole bunch if you say, kill 3 skeleton-lords in the middle of an island. I'm proposing that they atleast add a seperate list of quests for sloops and galleons, or something along those lines. Not simply for solo-players, but for the different size crews, being 1-2 and 3-4. because it's gonna be way easier for a 4 man crew to transport 10 cages of animals, than it's gonna be for a 1 man player. I have fun playing, and i'm gonna have fun no matter how grueling the road there will be, but if there was a possibility of there being a slightly more fun way to play, i would take it. I know there's no need to reach pirate legend, but i think it's dumb that a solo-player should be punished in the way that they can't get pirate legend, or it's gonna take ages due to transporting or skull quests, JUST because they like to play solo.

Edit: As a response to the level cap, i'm not saying it's gonna be 30, i'm just saying the highest number we've seen so far is 30, and the voyages looked pretty pristine at that point.

  • More specifically, what i'm hoping is that they atleast answer wether or not we'll get answers.

  • @capt-player

I remember hearing that after a while of collecting reputation with the Gold Hoarders, and doing their top-tier voyages, that the "order" of Legendary Pirates will contact you and invite you to their secret hideaway. Once you do their series of Legendary Voyages, you then become a Legendary Pirate. Though, yes they haven't said how much experience needed to get contacted by them.

The way they make it sound, it will be relatively difficult to do it alone. But not impossible. They market the game as setting sale with a crew, and I feel like they often don't help out those solo-players. Hopefully, there will be some kind of level system, to bring solo-players up to par with those who are in a 3 or 4 man group.

  • For me levering up is hard due to Rl stuff so I will just enjoy the world of sea of thieves at a leasurly pace and hope to find a rare item or creature and become my own legend and meeting some of u as legends who can take me under there wing for higher reward missions

  • @captain-landro remember it was just a test and the experience given could have been increased durring the play tests. Remember how cosmetics all increased in price?

  • @capt-player I can't speak for the other factions or the higher level quests, but in the beta, even if you had a voyage which required digging up three chests, you could still do 1 at a time, turn it in, and then do the others the same way. And if 1 or 2 of your three chests gets stolen, you still get partial credit for the ones you do turn in. Granted, that might change at higher levels, but solo play should still be possible. However, Rare is doing everything they can to make this a Multiplayer game, so solo play is, almost by definition, going to be much harder and less efficient... but not necessarily less fun if that's how you like to play.

  • @papasohan I know, but i'm more referring to the traders quests where you need to deliver like 8 items by a certain time, doing 1 at a time would be counter-productive.

  • @thejolirouge said in Amount of rep for Legend.:

  • The scale tests top out at level 25

That's talking about the legendary hideout, I believe. "Seamlessly hidden in the world" - it's an actual place in the map, but you need to be a legend in order to acces it, so no one could find it / enter it (because it was not possible to become a pirate legend within the beta tests).
Now, whether that was just a switch that was not turned on, or because there was one or more factors not present in the beta, to unlock legendary status... we dont know.

  • @pdt-mindstream That's whats bothering me. We don't know if it's possible, but there were levels missing, or wahetever. But, no matter, i'm gonna have to find a crew to play with to do the trade missions anyway, might aswell get on it.

Hehe, yeah. I'm sure there are some things they just won't tell us, and will let us figure it out through discovery. I have no idea if this will be one of those things, but don't worry too much... I'm sure the way won't be too obscured, or dificult to navigate (har har arrrrr) ! ;)

  • @pdt-mindstream I suppose it won't be hard to figure out, i just hope they don't send us on wildly obscure paths to unlock the endgame content, like needing us to get 17 rep with gold hoarders, then hold your lantern at 11:57pm on Devil's ridge shouting ''BOOTY'' in VC.

I don't want the rank for fame, i want it for the supposedly challenging legendary voyages.
