How much would you pay?

  • With the recent press release it seems the division amongst players has broadened further than ever. Some love the direction some hate it and very few seem to remain on the fence.

I suppose my question to all is, with what you've seen, heard or witnessed.

How much would you pay for this game?

Please note this game is functioning on a continuous update to content for 1 year so far, with more to come (hopefully) however this is funded from MTs.

Didnt played it yet, but as far as we can see what is to come - I actually think 70€ was worth it. I love all of the systems so far, especially the system with "legendary Pirate".

I loved to hear that the game will only be 70€ and that there will no dlc's or something.
I like the idea about buying skins from real money but i hope that you also can get animals without buying them with real money.

I actually love all the features they adding so far. 70€ was totally worth it. I hope they will stay this transparent with future updates!

  • I'm happy to drop $60 at launch and then will like buy microtransactions when they release. I'm hoping pets will be $10 or less and unique clothes will be in the $1-$3 range for each item

  • whatever it costs.

  • I'm confident enough in my experience during the beta that I enjoy the game enough to make it worth the $60. I strongly encourage anyone on the fence to go for that subscription service to try it for a month for $10, and go from there. I'll buy random cosmetics or whatever whenever I feel that the added content warrants me thanking them with some cash. It's more about supporting a developer that's doing things I like than it is about the cosmetics for me.

  • I'm a PC gamer and i'm more an indie/early access gamer, so i'm not used to pay 60$ or more for a videogame, so clearly, 60$ for SoT seems like a lot to me.
In order to be objective, i have to compare it with other games, GTA V for instance, is 60$ too, and in my opinion, worth it, there is so much to do, so much stories, solo, multi, heists, a gigantic map with so much details, some IA, a huge diversity in vehicules, weapons, etc.

So yeah, 60$ for SoT ? I'm not sure about that. I'd happily give 40$.

  • I would pay what they are asking ,regardless of the amount, IF I thought the game was worth it and give me that much fun.
I know I definitely would not come to forums and cry that somehow America is to blame for my economic and political system that has priced the game outa my reach.
People on earth need to take more economics classes and less poetry and art classes and learn how things work.
As for microtransactions i probably wont buy any or very few because that kinda stuff doesnt mean anything to me and I will make do with whats available in game. Now if they have special areas or zones that open with purchase then maybe.

  • I would gladly pay 50 to 60 euros for this game and buy cosmetic ''dlc'' like the pets update on the side.

So, if for instance the pet update costs 10 to 15 euros for all the pets, and they cost (dunno, 1,50 per pet) I would not mind paying that. IF I really like the cosmetics ofcourse ;)

The game being 70 euros is still a lot for me, even if the devs have told us that ALL future updates will be free.

I think the best thing we can do now is wait till full release, play the game, and come back to this topic then. As at that time we will be able to fully know whether the game if worth its current price or not :)

  • The 70€ price for me it's onest. Is the normal price for a new console game (i play on pc and i live in Italy)

For the pets i hope they will be around 5€. So that more o less all the players that like to have one can afford it.

  • Cant please everyone. I bought two copies of the game and two controllers. 91cad for each game and 98cad for each controller. I sleep very well knowing I am getting free DLC and free seasons pass.

  • 69/79 AUD

    Not the current 99.95 AUD

I bought BOTH Monster Hunter World AND Shadows of the Colossus for 100AUD last week.

  • i've already pre ordered the game through the xbox store so i was obviously happy enough with the price. I intend to purchase a DLC pet too. However just because i pulled the trigger doesn't mean that it doesn't sting and that i think theres enough content for the money because i do not.

  • $80cdn which is what it is.

For 1 pet (dog). I'd probably pay $2. don't really do micro transactions unless i've already dropped and will drop a lot of time into the game.

  • Interesting responses from people, I'm still an on the fencer personally and here's hoping the weekend play will change my mind.

Currently I'd comparative SOT with other shared world games such as ARK or GTA. ARK was early access as they knew it would take a while to fill all the details so got that at £25, GTA has maintained its value well and held free dlc from the start, again i got this for £25 although average was around £30.
I'd say comparatively I'd prefer the more honest price of around £30 - £35 given its not finished and some content is exclusively locked to micro transactions.

  • I'm too desensitized to have issue with $60 for a game, been standard for far too long. I'd like to see pets within $2-$5 range, with bundles of items not exceeding $20. Much of this depends on how well RARE pulls this off, so I'll be on the fence too. I have no issues 'tipping' a company and it's Developers by purchasing non-mechanic impacting MT's in order to support their good work and instill an effort to keep it up.

  • $60 launch. Standard AAA game. I would also be willing to spend money on DLC if I liked the game but fortunately the DLC are going to be free.

  • @laughsmaniacaly I've still not bought it, and I likely won't until its released. I need to see what people think and if the game really is worth the price tag. If it really is a session locked pirate themed arena shooter, I will likely give it a large pass. If it turns out to be a rich in-depth multiplayer RPG, I will likely grab it. But yeah, I hardly ever pre-order games anymore anyhow. Basically the $60 price tag is only going to be worth it if the game turns out to be what Rare sold me on originally. If it doesn't fulfill that promise, its not really worth anything at all to me.

  • I would happily pay a fine coin for this gem of a game.

  • I'll happily pay the price they've suggested for one of the best looking games I have seen to date. They've done an absolutely brilliant job with the water, when everyone else seems to fall flat in that area.

Add to that the fact that they are releasing free content updates and the only MT options (that we know of so far) are cosmetic, then I'd say the current asking price is way more than fair. Especially considering they could have nickle-and-dimed us with season passes or a subscription plan.

  • @ethnine i agree, it is set to be a hit or miss kind of game, somethings look great others lacking but we won't know for sure until release.

To all others agreeing with a £60 price tag but citing free dlc just remember that nothing has been remotely agreed for this dlc content it is equally plausible that map expansion is an option or simply just one more ship in regards for content for the next 6 or even 12 months. I'm not trying to diswade or put down rare in any matter or way but i just want to guide people to air on the side of caution, your hopeful expectations may not be what this game is going for.

As for GTA the release price was £45 in my local area for almost 2 years, i got my copy 2nd hand thus the price fall.

I do feel that it is still steep for a game that admits it still needs to add content.

  • @laughsmaniacaly Blood, sweat, tears and all the cursed Aztec gold I have.

  • $60 will definitely put off some people, but it's a price I'm willing to pay on top of any cosmetics purchases there are.
I love the idea of this game and what you can do in it.

  • @snowbodhi said in How much would you pay?:

@laughsmaniacaly Blood, sweat, tears and all the cursed Aztec gold I have.

Hey man, that stuff will kill ya.

  • I got the game pass on Xbox already so luckily I get the game from day one! I also see this viable to anyone that wants a budget friendly option to the game(s). Plus I can still purchase the game to support the devs or I could just buy a nifty pet! :p

  • @ethnine Shhhhh, I’m trying to offload my cursed Aztec gold.

  • I'm fine with 60$, I'm totally not fine with MT unless it just unlocks something quicker what could otherwise be farmed over longer time. Not everyone is from USA/UK/Germany/other-country-with-a-good-currency. I'm tired of overpaying just because I'm from Poland. :/

  • @snowbodhi Whatever, everyone watch out for this guys gold he's trying to offload! :P

How much would you pay for this game?

    $60

Like nearly every other AAA game made by large studios.

  • Around 29 pounds, and that's just a bit higher than it should be priced for.

  • @laughsmaniacaly 15$ because of MT's.

  • I am going to try to hold on to my promise to not pay anything for microtransactions. Never done it and probably never will. I am fine with the 70 euro's the game will cost me but mt's on top of it is too much.

  • 49,90€ max which is the average price for a AAA pc game here in Finland. People saying they would pay anything are a problem for the whole gaming community. If everyone was like you games would cost 100€ or more.

  • It'll be $60. I plan to have it day 1. I intend to reward the dev's hard work with my initial purchase. My odds of purchasing any DLC are just about zero unless it's meaningful content, like new maps or modes or something like that. Short of $100 or so I don't really care. It's a good bargain for the amount of entertainment I'll get from it.

  • The comparisons of this game to GTA are a joke right? Or did this game suddenly add a massive high quality story campaign with voice acting etc?

  • It might be worth £5 if I am feeling generous.
