You freshers are delusional: 1) The game IS anemic, 2) You're not getting safe zones, at least not at launch.

  • Please, spare us your endless stream of 'pvp solutions'. Solution to what? This is the game Rare made. I'm sorry you're just starting to pay attention to development or just got into a beta but this is not new or unexpected.

Do I think PVP could have been approached differently, sure. I think the entire game is a shell of what it could and should be. But this game is less than two months from release. Any of your 'solutions' that require even a day or two worth of work have absolutely no chance of making it into the game by launch. The game is already incredibly anemic, you think they're going to conjur some pvp/safezone 'solution' before launch when they still have half of a game missing?

You people need to get a grip on the reality of the situation.

Also, stop pretending the game is a complete experience, regardless of alphas and betas. We've seen what's planned, if they include literally all of it the game is still severely lacking.

  • The truth is spoken

  • It seems as though you have little hope for the game as a whole. The half of the game that is missing is missing because they wanted it to be. It is not here because they removed it from this beta. I will agree that it is highly unlikely they make any major changes to what they have planned before launch, but what they have planned is not necessarily what we have been playing for the last few days. In short, we see only what they want us to see. Anything else is our hopes and dreams for what it might be.

In truth, I agree there is a number of repetitive threads on the matter. However, the point of this discussion board is to state our opinions. I thank you for sharing yours but at the same time, I ask how you expect others to be open to what you have to say when you are not coming across as open to what others have to say.

  • I agree with @LordBlackwolf13 that they have probably not shown us certain features just to keep it a surprise (though unluckily/luckily, it won't be a surprise to Pioneers). Showing us all of their cards is would take away some discovery from what the full game might be. Also, don't worry about them not having enough time, because they do have an in-house/secret build of the game which is supposedly much more fleshed out.

  • @firetadpole7469 This is literally the delusion I'm referring to.

We know exactly what they have planned for launch, we've seen the videos, the blogs and even the data mining on Reddit. If they have all of that somehow functional and included at launch, the game is still incredibly anemic.

And no, they're not withholding vaults of undisclosed features and content, that's not how this works. You don't obscure your game and make it appear anemic or incomplete while simultaneously accepting pre-orders and trying to build launch hype. That doesn't make sense and that's not what's happening here.

The game IS anemic. About the only thing I want to hear from Rare and the only thing that will prompt me to buy the game anywhere remotely around launch is a post-launch development roadmap. I want to know what they have planned beyond the 3 factions, the frivolous player/ship cosmetics, the potion and the weapon shop. If that's it and there are no plans for a complete experience, this game will never survive.

  • We know there will be three quest factions, they've mentioned it in dev videos and shown them in trailers. There will be content aplenty at release and they said they will keep adding content after release as well. What was seen in the Alpha and in the Beta isn't the whole picture. Not every feature needs to be tested by multiple servers worth of users. The devs said themselves that not everything would be in these tests, and that the Beta would have less than the Alpha did.

You cant come to a conclusion based on content released for a test. There is a bunch of stuff going on behind the scenes that they can test on a single server with just Rare employees, tweak and then call everyone back to test out again. Plenty of stuff that a handful of people can test out in game as well. You don't need thousands of players to go over every little aspect, nook, item or quest.

I'm sure that everything we've played with and tested will work at launch and bugs for other things will be present for us to deal with, laugh about and for Rare to scramble to fix so we can all get back to playing the game.

  • Played since day one alpha, I'm extremely disappointed in Rare. The "suprise withheld content" doesn't make up the other 40 of this 60 price game. The "suprise" content will be minuscule. This is turning out to be no mans sky all over again and I truely love the game. A fetch quest, empty open world with empty islands and one land npc enemy is extreamly disapointing. Why is it only alpha pioneers/founders who have been insiders since the start can see the red flags while beta freshers have stars in their eyes?

I love Rare and as a Brit i love the Brit talent in game industry but this ship is taking on water fast.

Edit: "we don't know the release content there will be loads" except people mined the data and we do know the content is scarce.

If rare have gone top secret government level security on their "surprise content" I'll eat my words.

If rare have gone top secret government level security on their "surprise content" I'll eat my words.

The question is, why would they? What do they/we gain from them withholding parts of their game? This isn't an RPG, this isn't Tomb Raider or Assassins Creed or Skyrim. They've marketed this as a multiplayer experience from day one. They gain nothing from withholding information or mythical 'surprise' content, not when so little of the game is already realized and people can clearly see it.

The negative PR/sales and community morale we're experiencing right now already outweighs any potential pros for withholding content.

If they have 'heaps' of content that we're not expecting, they're stupid for not doing so.

When you do the math it's clear, they have very little else to show us. The only 'surprise' is that they're finishing the game after launch.

  • @ch4annel They have stated that they are withholding information, and they even admit that the Alphas and Betas are bare bones. I don't think you understand, they want to build the hype, otherwise, they wouldn't have removed the NDA. And about the data mining, that's purely just stuff in the public build, and does not include whatever is in their private build.

I wouldn't call what me and other genuine supporters are doing, believing that this is not a majority of what will be in the full game, delusional. If Rare was a small company like Hello Games, then I would be very doubtful of them at this stage. However they have Microsoft's trust and their reputation on the line. If they mess up, then they're done for good.

  • We will see. I for one am not holding my breath. I'll play free with my one month game pass trial then decide.

  • @firetadpole7469 You are setting yourself up for disappointment my friend.

  • @ch4annel So be it.

So according to your logic gamers should have no say in what should change in a game or feedback shouldn't be given, just sit back a moment before you start typing another set of paragraphs and think about how awful some games would be without CUSTOMER feedback.

  • @hotel-actual said in You freshers are delusional: 1) The game IS anemic, 2) You're not getting safe zones, at least not at launch.:

This is exactly what I recommend to everyone at this point. All we can really do is wait and see what the final product is. There is no point in speculating. I have not pre-ordered and I probably will not buy the game at launch. Instead, I plan to look at the final product and judge it completely separate to my experiences thus far. If you can not do the free trial of Game Pass, then check out the game on Twitch and YouTube.

  • I haven't pre ordered yet (and unless they show us their full hand in Pioneer tests I won't), as I have promised myself to NEVER preorder a game under any circumstance, but I was looking at the trailer from the original showcase, and I must say, not much has changed in what they have shown us in those two years from what we have seen, other than trading companies. Now you may think this proves your point... but it doesn't.

Sharks, some ambient wildlife, ships with different designs, skeletons with clothing, weapons (mainly the different styles of swords), certain instruments (such as the violin/fiddle), clothing that we've never seen in game on any of the stock characters, considerable amounts of smoke from cannons(this may have been taken out due to performance issues), and in the cinematic trailer they have shown the Kraken (which they have confirmed will be in the game). None of these things were in the very first play tests (this was before I joined, but I know about the features included in older builds), and most were added after I joined. The stuff that still hasn't been added is either fully functional already, or they dropped it. I seriously doubt that this is all they have worked on in the two years since their announcement, and this isn't including anything else they did before then.

This probably won't sway you, so if you seriously don't have trust in them, then take what I say with a grain of salt. However, those of you who already have some hope in them, should rest easy.

Now who is delusional? They don't have time to add minor features at this juncture, but they have time to plan feature roadmaps to appease the likes of you? Honestly though, you'd buy a game at full price that you don't even like based on PROMISES?

  • What is a fresher and is it degrogatory?

  • For me the game is already worth the 60$, but i do agree that from what we have seen i am a little worried they arent reaching the full potential this game has, so close to launch and still so many questions without answers that affect the entire gameplay loop, like how ship ownership will work and if the trade companies act as factions, etc. the gameplay itself is solid and i only imagine it will become more diverse and more entertaining as more weapons and the consumables etc get added. Still my favorite game right now by a longshot, but it does have a WoW like potential to be a game all types of gamers enjoy while having content suited to everyone, that i fear they wont have realized for launch atleast. Heres hoping we are wrong, but like you said its almost delusional to hope for things atleast on the scale i just described without much evidence.

Ya like PC idiots calling console player peasantse”. They’re not but they wish they were. He’s just a stuck up a***e

Not exactly helping your case friend. Stooping to his level only lowers yourself. By the way, PC is superior ;)

@CH4ANNEL You sound like a massive p***k, ya know?

mmmm sounds abit harsh friend. Each to his own.

  • @girthquake9000
Called a typo. Get over yourself.

  • I completely agree with the op.

If by some miracle of game development they launch with ten different ships and true customization (chase cannon, ramming prow, jib sails, armor plating, etc) I will gladly eat my words and buy a few extra copies for friends.

  • Nice to see the maturity from all parties involved displayed in this thread. Embarrassment to the community this name calling and bickering.

  • So many people butthurt over the term 'fresher'. Spoiler, it's not derogatory, it's used to refer to new people, whatever the context.

You bunch of filthy carebears. :P

  • @hotel-actual This started off as a mostly friendly disagreement. I can't believe how fast this devolved.

  • @ch4annel I'm going to have to go with ch4annel on this one. I have been watching this game closely since the last quarter of last year. It's starting to feel like we are playing an Early Access game (hugely feature incomplete) and not a Beta (smashing bugs and testing servers). And with only months to go to boot before "release". Why else would dev streams and other playthroughs show them turning their chests into the lady with a hammer and suddenly we are doing it to the gold hoarder tent?

IMHO I don't think they are holding back anything. I don't think they have the order of souls or the merchant alliance even remotely close to being done. There's a difference here between having it done and holding it back. and using honeyed words to make it seem like you are.. and don't really have anything. After all if it was complete we should be testing AT LEAST base stuff of each mechanic by now (Im mostly referring to factions here), but we aren't.

I've been in betas that have been more feature complete.. as they should be.. and were for what they are supposed to be for, simple bugs and stress testing.

I might just be jaded though, and i would LOVE to be wrong here. I love the base game, i suppose time will tell lol.

  • I've been having a blast with the beta so far. :)
