So little, so late.

  • Nine seasons to get rid of event hopping feels like a mouthbreathing shareholder couldn't be bothered to shut up long enough for logic to dominate a room. Now that it's gone as a part of an 'experiment' I have to wonder if I should return to seas that won't feel like a revolving door of progressively worse experiences and suddenly empty sessions.
But that only solves the smallest of problems in the long run.
From a seemingly unmanageable and yet obnoxiously obvious cheating problem to a constant reminder that 70% of the content is the other 30% in a cheap paper mask, it's no wonder that the draw of SoT is player to player interaction, and yet that's also the very thing that seems shafted every time the updates drop. It began to feel like I was playing a sweatfest game, with some of the most obnoxious people hopping in and abusing the mechanics to make every server miserable. Open Crew is horrid. Trying to sail on the same server but a different ship as friends is literally a gambling simulator.
I get this is a pirate experience... but I'm sitting at a computer. We can sacrifice the immersion for features and QOL updates. Or is that only acceptable when Rare(ly good) wants to sell me something?

Sincerely, someone who put too many hours into this game only to feel like I was dumped on a roadside and told to suck it up.

Just to clarify, the tenor of your post kind of implied you have not been on the seas, of late. If that's the case, and you're wondering whether to give it another try, give it a shot! The dive restrictions have really helped servers stabilize a little more - honestly, I hope they restrict it more. I have my complaints, but usually, so long as you stay out of hourglass, you don't run into nearly as many cheaters.
