The fix for currency conversion error - can be better.

  • Context: "As part of our recent Bilge Rat Weekender event, all players were intended to have their existing Doubloon balances converted into Gold, with only Doubloons earned through Seasonal Renown remaining in their wallets. This approach was designed to ensure a level playing field, allowing all players to complete event challenges and earn Doubloons for the exclusive rewards available in the Bilge Rats Black Market and the Smugglers’ Market.

Unfortunately, this currency conversion was not applied correctly to a small number of accounts, which enabled some players to purchase items from these markets without participating in the event as intended. To maintain fairness for all players who took part, these items have now been removed from the accounts of those who acquired them without earning the required Doubloons during the event."

    My opinion on:

    1. Removing some items
    • Yes, I understand. This makes sense for fairness.
    1. Removing my earliest purchased item (in my case: curse of ill omen)
    • This is what Rare did. It does NOT make sense. I bought this first because if I had only 1.5k doubloons earned, this is the only thing I would've bought.
    1. Removing my latest purchased item (in my case: silver coin figurehead)
    • This is what Rare should've done. It would make sense. I would not have had the doubloons to buy this if not for Rare's error in applying currency conversion.

Sure, this item would remain in the shop for a year. But maybe I won't be around as much to earn another 1.5k doubloons in this game. Seems like it's my mistake for buying stuff when my doubloon balance was erroneously high enough.

I feel really bad for those this happened to. They didn't have their doubloons reset, and couldn't earn more from the event due to being over the cap. There was zero communication from Rare if this was going to be fixed right away or not, and the clock was ticking. The only thing they could do was to purchase the items from Duke.

  • . But maybe I won't be around as much to earn another 1.5k doubloons in this game.

You cant earn 1500 doubloons in a year? With all the weekenders, Season pass rewards and Reaper chests. Not to leave out any extra bonus we do not know about in the future between then and now.

Players have no faith in themselves.

You (and others who post that they'll have a year to earn doubloons) forget that Duke will have (I assume) new items each Season, which people might want as well. So if they bought one item this Season and get to 1500 doubloons halfway next Season, there'll be three items to choose from ...

  • @lem0n-curry

From what I’ve read and YouTube videos claim
His stock will remain yearly unless that is just random rumors until Dev give us a better understanding.

  • Support told me: "no exchange is possible."

I am punished for Rare's mistakes.

    My time is disrespected.

  • @lem0n-curry bilge rat weekender is going to be monthly not seasonly. They only are skipping this month. Im guessing we will have new items every month to buy though which is going to be hard for most to do unless you can be ahead with 3000 or already at 4000 doubloons at the start of each weekender.

  • @elmo6842

New items are added seasonally - every 3 months AFAIK.
So potential to earn 1300 X 3 dubs plus Season Pass, without steals - for each cosmetic drop.

    Current Duke Marketplace is 4500.

    Aye, that's confirmed.
From dev Insider forum post :

In exactly the same way as Larinna, Duke will now also launch his stock with a Season's worth of items (i.e. 3 months' worth), this will also happen at the launch of each Season instead of being refreshed during each Weekender.

  • @pc-monkfish ok so each month then you can earn minimum of the 1300 if you don't steal any and get the 425 from the plunder pass so you will have 4325 just from those to buy from Duke per season. That doesn't include reaper chests you can collect. So I guess it is doable then to collect all items from him per season. I didn't see in the cluster on insiders forum it was only once a season so that does make it better than every month they do it.

Thanks, I thought I was going crazy 🤪- introducing Duke's shop for only 2 new items and a couple of previously released each year seemed strange.

  • Since Captain Falcore released a related video just 1-2 days ago, I will link it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJ3snubGsKE
AI summary of the video: "Captain Falcore breaks down the recent currency reset controversy in Sea of Thieves. The situation explores how technical issues and implementation failures regarding Bilge Rat Doubloons sparked widespread community frustration during a limited-time seasonal event, leading to unintended player experiences and complex rollbacks of in-game items."

Another way to view the proper fix for this is -

    1. ensure the old doubloon currency reset is done
    2. remove all new-doubloon items from our inventory.
    3. give us afresh the new doubloon value of everything we've earned after the doubloon conversion day even if it's over the 4k cap at this point.
    • let us re-spend, so we can buy what we actually want.
  • @raft2c7c

Seen it and all I can say is...That is all the players fault.

Never once stopped to think, Hey a reset was suppose to happen but it didnt...maybe I shouldnt spend these doubloons and report the problem?
No, they got greedy and spent them.

Waking up to see your Bank account has 1billion dollars, what you gonna do? Spend it or report it? Right thing is report...but course greed comes first.
That what happen here and players are upset over a glitch/bug and blaming everyone instead themselves.

  • @burnbacon

I don't think players can be blamed for buying stuff - but they are deluded if they thought that they would be able to keep items that were part of the new Dub economy and were not fairly earned in the post-reset economy.
It's disrespectful to the time of those that are effectively having to grind 3 weekenders to earn the 4500 doubloon items in Duke store to expect to keep 'em.

What players SHOULD take responsibility for (which will never happen) is not participating in the BRW events and then complaining they haven't got Doubloons after fixes.
Unsure how effective the execution of the correction process was but I agree with that principle.
The doubloon cap did not stop voyages being completed and if players thought they were in possession of Doubloons they were going to keep - the very least they could do was participate in the Weekend to 'earn' those Dubs already held.

  • No player should be expected to keep track of their doubloon balance.

In my case, I remember that before and on the day of the doubloon reset/conversion, I had about 100+ doubloons. I guessed that this was not removed because I earned quite a bit from my plunder pass rewards.
I proceeded to earn 1400+ during the Bilge Rats Weekender and sold Reaper Chest stuffs.
First thing I bought was the Curse of Ill Omen.

And then I continued doing a lot of Reaper Chest stuff - diving across servers for Reaper chests, while part-time emissary hunting.
Didn't keep track of how much I earned.

One day, while near Duke's shop, I saw that I had over 2k+.
Did I sell that many Reaper chests already? Or was there a bug such that Rare was late to give me Doubloons? Or is this just a visual bug of Doubloons that can't be spent?
Even if it's a bug, I trusted that Rare would fix things fairly, correctly.
So I went to Duke's shop and bought the Mercenary Sails and a Silver Coin Figurehead.

And then a few days ago, I logged in and saw my Curse is gone. The Sails and Figurehead stayed in my inventory.
This is not fair, not correct.

It is not on me to have good memory of how much I earned. That's on Rare.
If they had to remove items (which I understand and agree), they should remove the Silver Coin Figurehead first. Not my Curse of Ill Omen.
