Was it intended for crates to block buckets of water?

  • A while back crates and buckets were patched to no longer interact. Was it intended, in a fairly recent patch to make them block buckets again? This makes for an extremely unfair advantage for people boarding a galleon to be able to put crates on the grate and block buckets through it. The hourglass community was really happy the last time this issue was fixed and I think it would be great if it were fixed again.

    It's just an inconspicious tactic that crews can do to sink their opponents. I've had some of my flexes even stand there preventing the bucket from working.

    Standing on grate is fine but in the past they patched the crates to no longer block buckets and now after a recent patch it is back. I am wondering if rare intended for this to happen and would suggest that they fix crates to no longer block buckets again regardless. It is an uninteresting way to win fights and incentivizes players to not use crates which I am sure were created for player convenience.

    It's a way of thinking outside the box, using a strategy that some galleon crews won't realize is happening, and think it's them incorrectly bucketing. Whenever we tuck on a ship doing FotD, we mess with their wheel (turn the ship to ram the island), we'll anchor them, take all their supplies, etc. just little things we know they're not going to be observant about...until it's too late and they're trying to quickly sail away. Don't see an issue with a crew thinking outside the box.

    I actually didn't know RARE patched that out since I've been away from the game a couple years and missed out on those patch notes.

    Yeah If It's back in the game without any mention in the notes, it's probably un-intended.
    I will say though the storage crate (Any crate/Chest for that matter) on the galleon grate was an ingenious idea that some comp players figured out before it become ''widespread'' knowledge in Hourglass out to the public. Not many people thought about it at all.

    Would I prefer to have it block water buckets or not? I would prefer them not to. You are already at a dis-advantage if you are even boarded in the first place. And having to deal with a broken tactic puts salt on the wound.
    INCLUDING the blunderbombs that can be chucked at that back of the gally interrupting once again bucketing through grate. Which despite calls to look into it and potentially patch, we have heard ZERO from RARE. The latter is clearly an exploit...

  • If I remember this correctly you can also block the grate using Hunting Spears. Way harder to throw and get the right landing spot, but still feasible.

    why make it easier to sink noobs? its already super easy to sink anyone in open world... i am more concerned about high level HG fights where against a really good crew bilge and flex are already keeping the boat from sinking with very little room for error, it makes for very uninteresting fights when ppl can just put the crate there while you are trying to fight them... and as you said it makes it even harder for noobs who have no idea that they can even be blocked by crates...

    @broadsideban

    they actually did patch ruttering (throwing blunders through the back of the ship to disrupt bucketing). though it can still be done slightly, the blunders no longer go through the hull of the ship so it doesnt have that much of an effect on bucketing.

  • its already super easy to sink anyone in open world...

    is it though....complaints here on everything involving pvp in this game always ends up with "too easy/unfair"

    It's not just noobs. A lot of experienced players don't notice little things too.
