A heartfelt thank you from a Day One pirate

  • Hello Rare Team,

I just wanted to take a moment to share some positive feedback from a long-time player.

My friend and I have been sailing the Sea of Thieves since day one, and we’re still playing regularly today. Over the years, we’ve seen a lot of ups and downs in the community, and recently we’ve noticed a wave of criticism claiming the game is “dead” or losing its soul. As players who are still deeply invested, we honestly couldn’t disagree more.

The recent update felt fresh, exciting, and full of the creativity that made us fall in love with the game in the first place. It reminded us why Sea of Thieves is so special — the atmosphere, the freedom, the shared stories, and the sense that every session becomes its own adventure. We’re still discovering new moments, laughing at unexpected encounters, and creating memories that no other game really offers.

We know live-service games aren’t easy to maintain, and that not every update will please everyone. But from our perspective, the passion, care, and imagination your team continues to put into the game really shows. Sea of Thieves is far from “dead” to us — it’s alive, evolving, and still something we genuinely look forward to playing.

So thank you for sticking with the vision, for continuing to take risks, and for giving us a world we’ve loved sailing in for years. We just wanted you to know that there are players out here who truly appreciate what you’re doing.

    Fair winds and following seas,
    Omri and Tal.

Yeah. Games still alive. New people every single day. I've met so many player who are new. So yeah. Not dead or dying at all. Very much alive and growing.

  • @wizred007 Indeed matey, SOT is very much alive and means a lot to many of us. There are no other games like it and though some don't get it, we love it.

There are a few who'd wish this game was more like GTA ,COD or Fortnite but those are just the screaming minority; tis us the silent majority who enjoy this game for what it is.

Here is to more days of fun and piracy shenanigans! 🍻

I have to ask this because people claim, D1 is when PS came into the group or when S1 started. What is D1 to you?

  • If you and your friends still enjoy the game after so many years, that’s great. Don’t want to take that away from you or try to convince you otherwise.

But I stumbled upon this and I just have to ask:

@wizred007 sagte in A heartfelt thank you from a Day One pirate:

The recent update felt fresh, exciting, and full of the creativity that made us fall in love with the game in the first place.

What exactly made the recent update feel „fresh, exciting and full of creativity“ to you?

The ancient guardian is a new kind of enemy, for sure (although it basically is just another bullet sponge), but act two literally gave us just another copy past event. A fort with a giant beacon on top filled with waves of skeletons inside. Sorry, but I can’t see the creativity here. On the contrary.

Act three will give us a new type of fortress and I admit, they are different and look fun to explore. But I doubt they will be heavily frequented after a couple of weeks. Cause at the end it’s just another event filled with waves of skeletons to defeat. So there has been some creativity put into the architecture of those garrisons, but at the core, gameplay remains what it has ever has been: go in, kill waves of skeletons, get loot (and maybe fight other players).

Again, if you enjoy the content, that’s a good thing and I really don’t want to ruin that for you and your friends. I‘m just struggling to see said creativity …

  • @burnbacon on Xbox, even before harpoons on ships were introduced.

So your D1 was when the game first came out? On any platform?

"There is no war in ba sing se"

  • I think the content is interesting but I dont know if it's because its in the roar but this season has felt very empty to me. I haven't had a single molten fortress contested. Barely seen anyone in the roar, nothing like the peak of chests of fortune first being in fofs and how much attention there was.
I dont know if it was intentional of devs to have the related deeds somewhat protected from pvp I.e start the fort, do the emissary quest.

As a duo-sloop doing it two times until now, we got attacked bot times when we were trying to raise our emissary flag 😁and afterwards when we're loaden with loot.

When solo (trying to avoid other crews), other crews going towards Molten Sands after I started it happened half the time.

Bro, give me your servers, please xD. I did 6 for the quests, and only one wasn't contested.

  • I mean they are deleting all the doubloons you have earned over 8+ years. That feels good to you? That doesn't feel like it's lost its soul? Honestly I would rather them delete my 120 million gold than my precious doubloons since those actually have some things worth buying attached to them. The prices have just been too high to justify on a cosmetic I would rarely use. The problem with making a currency that is more rare than the over abundant amounts of gold. If you didn't play for the first 5 or 6 seasons the amount of doubloons you would need to buy the stuff they had added to the shops is insane. If you are a playstation player that's even worse as they missed almost all those seasonal rewards so will have to buy them all at insane prices. Unless they are only wiping xbox and PC players doubloons which then that would be the only way they could make the situation even worse and more disgusting.

The utter disrespect for our time investments that has happened again and again... Agreed live service games are rough to maintain... But the amount of effort they put in? You have to fix what you add you can't just push out broken or bad content then just write it off as a bad idea when it simply needs improvement. People suggested shrinking hourglass circles what 3 years ago at this point? Now that no ones playing hourglass they decided maybe it's worth an update? Then in 2-3 more years when no ones play hourglass again then what? Delete it like they did arena because they never added new cosmetics to the mode for people to chase? The number of people who did arena and similarly hourglass just for the fun of the combat is an extreme minority. People do it to obtain the cosmetics they want. And such a large gap of no rewards on the road to 1000 is enough to incentivize people from trying much past 100.

I wouldn't even agree that they are taking risks. Is it a risk to add new cargo voyages when you know everyone hates cargo voyages? Or was it a failed attempt to rework something people disliked and hope they wouldn't notice it was just a lazy concept for a season that you could just copy & paste the system? You speak of "passion & care" where? The passion is gone, its all about punishing the players now, finally acting on issues that have plagued the game for years after those same issues pushed away millions of players. That's not passion or care that is neglect. Making a reckless decisions for the sake of spreadsheets and line graphs, adding new things that force the players to redo the same content over and over under some weak excuse l ike "You weren't a captain before, so it makes sense that you have 120 million gold but the game says you have never sold a single treasure!" While at the same time not letting you kick someone off your OWN SHIP that you are supposedly captain of, because that would feel bad for the person getting kicked... Yea you know what feels worse? Deleting our currency that we've been grinding for years.

  • @lem0n-curry I've sunk any ship in morrows on sight, not worth the risk when I've got loot I value. Just haven't had anyone come out to me.

  • I mean they are deleting all the doubloons you have earned over 8+ years. That feels good to you? That doesn't feel like it's lost its soul?

Unlike gold, I havnt spent a single one of my doubloons. It collecting dust. Gold I waste on random stuff I dont need.
