I think there needs to be some changes for solo sloopers

  • I don’t have any friends who play SOT, I’ve always been a solo slooper. I’ve grinded the factions and made my way too pirate legend, despite getting nailed in almost every session I’m in, a ship appears on the horizon, it b lines for me all the time. Now I can safely say, I suck at pvp on this game, pve I could do to my hearts content, but pvp I’m not overly good. I did my first hourglass tonight and just sunk (shock) but just had abuse hurled literally straight after. I soloed fort of fortune a couple of days back, open the vault, moved the loot from the vault to the ship, checked around, saw no one, then as I’m moving the last few bits, ship starts getting pelted by an Athena emissary. Tonight I went and did a ashen lord, not my first but I thought I’d start farming them again, nailed the ashen lord with cannons, finished it, started collecting loot and sailing away, sloop appears with 2 people nailing every shot.

What I’m trying to say is there needs to be something for solo sloopers, because going against 2 experienced sloopers is just a nutache, let alone if a 5 stack reaper galleon appears. There needs to be changes to safer seas so you can level up factions within it( other than reapers obviously) they need to remove the 30% gold because it just makes safer seas a wander server. 99% of the time all I wanna do is do the world events, voyages and all that without people just hunting down straight away. 2 hours of voyages and then capture.

Need some advice (not the get good scrub stuff)

  • Pretty sure they already removed the 30% of gold thing in Safer Seas, that said, you will always encounter people better than you on the seas and those not as good, the game has open crews for when you dont have friends and a discord to seek out people looking to do the same type of things as you.

  • @thedrakyle have they? They still need to allow faction rep hopefully. I get where you’re coming from, can you work towards commendations in safer seas? Obviously not PvP onea

  • @xxaduck0nquack Certain commendations are still unlockable yes, just not the ones tied to High Seas specifically which you can tell because they will have 'Only in High Seas' marked on them while in safer seas.

This is typically any PvP related commendation, Athena and Reapers commendations and the Hourglass factions commendations.

  • Play over in Devils Roar. You be alone and most players, even 5G reapers don’t bother sailing all the way there just to sink you.

  • Need some advice? Find a friend, seriously. I used to solo and now I don’t, and life is so much better sailing with friends.

  • My idea was to have same faction alliances pay each player full amount when cashing in. That would help solo sloopers to have more support from other ships wanting to help protect they're Alliance teammates.

  • @xxaduck0nquack

    Well three things.

    1. Find a sailing buddy or three. Open crew is a mixed bag but my guild is full of people met on it. There are also discord groups to look for.

    2. Avoid world events untill your good at the game. Its a dinner bell for the rest of us. Do voyages instead.

    3. Check for tuckers and the horizon more often. Keep in mind locations nearby that can hide ships and remember that level 5 reapers can see your location if you have raised a trading company. Everyone can see you if you are a reaper or level 5 guild. Turn off all your lanterns.

  • @miserenz the one event I want to do is ashen winds, reason being I want to fill out my scorched cosmetics and one is to burn 100 skellyys with a ashen winds skull. Good advice though, a lot of people have said just to leave open crew on and hope for the best xD

  • @xxaduck0nquack That should be doable in safer seas i think? If need be, you can have someone sail the ship for you so you can board a skele ship with the skull to use on all the skeles on it, or just grab an ashen wind skull and visit OoS skele bounty voyages to burn all the skeles that way

  • @thedrakyle
Not certian if those accommodations are available in safer seas but if they are thats a good option. If not, just grab the skull and gap it or hide it and come back if another crew turns up. Do not bury it, they will use your map to find it they sink you.

  • @miserenz Just checked the wiki, all the Ashen Wind comms can be done purely in Safer Seas as none of them actually require an enemy player present to accomplish or the use of high seas content like emissarys. Skele ships on fire, skeletons on fire and just defeating the ashen lords repeatedly and selling the skull repeatedly is all it demands.

  • So, rest assured, the 30% gold and reputation restriction has been gone for several months now.
On Safers Seas, you can do almost all the activities offered by the game, with the exception of the following:

    • Athena (you can't become a PL)
    • Reaper (which is quite normal)
    • Hourglass (and that's normal)
    • Fof & FOTD (and that's normal)

And the reputation level is blocked at 25.

I agree that when we're solo and facing bigger ships, it's complicated, but I highly doubt that Rare will change anything (even if I'd like to see 100% sloop, or brig, or gallion servers)... It remains to be seen whether Safers Seas will receive any new modifications (which is more than likely).
