You know we don’t always neee to add random stuff we can be ok with swords and guns. Genuinely what was the reason? Is all parkour now not just pointless? I want it removed but I doubt that’s possible at this point the game feels too far gone.
Handheld harpoon gun?????
Firstly, welcome back to the game!
Secondly, no, certain areas (like in tall tales and shrines) you aren't able to bypass via harpoon. In the past, I've seen a number of posts asking for ways to "swing" to another ship, and the grapple gun seemed like a fitting choice. It has its pros and cons, but seems to be super popular.
Oh, they also added ziplines on certain islands too. Enjoy!
@dimplelimple seeing from your two threads you created you have been away from the game for a while now, the grapple gun was a long requested feature and it was added over 6 months ago and the new voyage system over a year ago.
While yes we used to purchase voyages at the faction representatives it didn’t really add much since it was just a needless step in the chain especially seeing as the limited carrying capacity on players was nonsensical.
@dimplelimple The harpoon gun has many uses, yet the main function is boarding enemy vessels. Since this tool was added to the game many aspects of the high seas encounters have become more adventurous.
How about trying out these changes before starting to complain on the forums?
Yes, diving might seem lazy at times but you can't keep loot with you, so it's perfect when you wanna get into a server with more people on it or don't feel like doing a certain event that is currently active. I believe the pros outshines the cons.

I share your thoughts here. Even if it is a VERY unpopular opinion tho.
I think Handheld Harpoon destroyed the Thrones commendations, parkour, original boarding skills, and more. Besides is has the same pirate spirit as a rocket luncher or a rail gun. Rare could have managed better the "boarding with ropes" cliché than just adding a Quake-3-Arena-style harpoon.
But also other elements contributed to the degradation of the old gaming ways like Diving. It destroyed the awareness of the sailor and the patience of searching for players along the sea. Everything became more "pew-pew-ey" and suitable for angry and "I want it now" kids. There fore, less cool.
In minor grade, Character Duplication the lack of attention to dialogs made the ecosystem less realistic. So yeah... there are plenty of terrible decisions lately.
One might think "be insider so you can make a difference by testing the outcome". But in the real life is kind of pointless because those decisions are made at closed doors and doesn't matter the players opinion on vital things. Only minor stuff. ... so.. yeah... that.I found the Harpoon gun to be useful but I have not seen it heavily used either in combat, mainly just here and there.
Most times times we stop players trying to board when they are using the harpoon gun they end up giving up on using it because they couldn't get onboard multiple times. Then they go back to sniping etc.
The Harpoon gun can come in handy moving around islands etc when in a rush, quickly getting across other areas etc... Even good for getting loot out of water when tied with another player on the ships Harpoon.
