Hey everyone—players, moderators, and developers!
We need to have a serious conversation for the sake of our pirate community. I’ve been a Sea of Thieves player since before the Skull Fort update, back when only 3 forts would respawn at a time. I’m sharing this so you understand my experience with the game. Sea of Thieves has been my main game since 2018. I’ve played nearly every day, and during major updates, I’ve clocked in around 10-15 hours daily. The developers can probably confirm that based on my playtime.
But today, I want to focus on an important issue: how do developers detect cheaters or hackers?
As someone who has played since 2018, I’ve developed a sense for the game's physics. I can often tell when something feels off, like when someone might be using macros, aim bots, or ESP (wall hacks). I’ve died countless times and don’t really care as long as I’m having fun with friends or in open crews. Everyone who knows me knows I keep going back, even if I’m solo and get sunk 5-15 times. I don’t stop until I either win or drain the other crew's supplies. That's how I make my fun.
My question to the developers: When I notice someone with unusual in-game behavior, is it enough to report their gamertag? Do you check their profiles? What I’ve heard is that most cheating software injects files like .bat files. If that's true, why can't it be detected automatically, and why don’t those players get auto-banned?
I’m asking for a fair discussion here. Please, moderators, don't shut this thread down until we've had a proper and respectful conversation about this.
Let’s hear your thoughts, everyone.
