Support for server rollback

  • The particular problem that has surfaced following the Burning Blade launch is well known by now and is arguably the worst exploit to ever happen in the history of the game.

I'm in favor of of a server rollback if that's within Rare's capability.

Sure, I'll lose a week of legitimate progress, but the effects are already so widespread I think it will have a dramatically awful impact on the game's future if a rollback isn't done.

    Thoughts?

  • @twisp6753 I honestly think a roll back would be bad. Yes there are bad actors, but the difference is so many people have no idea about them that taking a week from everyone is just wrong.

They need to solve the issue where people are exploiting and getting 100s of rituals per location, but punishing the entire playerbase is a bad look.

  • Never a good idea to punish all for the actions of some/many. There are ways they could figure out how to enforce if they really wanted to, even if it's a pain.

I prefer rollbacks over bans, rollbacks are more effective and I'm far more about learning lessons than punishment when talking about stuff that isn't serious harm.

I just want people to knock it off, I don't want to get revenge through enforcement. Rollbacks are lessons that I think are effective and fair based on the conduct.

There is no "I just exploit I don't cheat" anymore. Those that are exploiting with extreme duping in these seasons are cheating.

People should avoid the areas of the community that enable them and their behavior. Do what's right, stop pretending it's edgy to cheese a pirate game (you're not bad, but it's not cool). Keep yourselves out of trouble. It's more fun that way.

  • @captain-coel Other games have done this, like WoW. I only think it's warranted because so many players are taking part. I would not be surprised at this point if over 50% have either done it, or benefited by looting the ill-gotten gains.

  • @twisp6753 When was the last time WoW did a rollback? when was it 4 days long? Rollbacks sre just bad.

  • @captain-coel They would do it again if you could dupe a couple billion gold and max all your faction reps in hours.
The difference is WoW would likely just shut the servers down with an exploit of this magnitude.

  • It's been too long to do a rollback at this point, because you'd also be impacting a lot more regular people than exploiters.

If they had acted sooner, that might have been a possibility.

  • Absolutely not. The entire community/player base should not be punished for the wrongdoings of a small %.

Are these exploits annoying? Sure. Do they actually, and intrinsically have an effect on anyone besides the crew doing them? No, unless you find one of these crews and sink them.

The time for a roll back would have been Thursday right after patch. At this point you can't do it. The people doing this will get bored and move on. Gold doesn't really have a long term purpose. Reputation goals are finite.

You can say Wow would roll back, but I'd bet they wouldn't. not after 5 days. MMO rollbacks were measured in hours.

  • Never punish the innocent. I'd be pretty darn ticked off if I lost a week's progress.

  • @twisp6753

Eh. Like just reset the exploiters or shadow limit their earning potential. Chest of Legends is 2k instead of close to 20k. Etc.

The guys maxing out comms with glitchsploits are going to go away. They did the thing and they're gone.

    Yeah it needs fixing.

Sometimes cheating is so widespread that a rollback has to happen, because it's gone too far to pick out the individual cheaters.

And the rage at the rollback should be focused on the cheaters, and teaches players to report the jerks. :)
