Horn of fair winds loot rebalance

  • After this patch horn of fair winds are extremely rare to find.... so far it's been like 1 in 7 shrine visits and afterwards we switched to treasureys and didn't find a single 1 today..

With 250 being required to be turn in it could take even active players over a year to get this commendation done.... seems like a rebalanced is needed

I would suggest rebalancing treasureys to always have a horn of fair winds...maybe remove the ancient tribute chest in place of it if need be

A year? Is that really a long thing? With each new season and update. Adding new commendations, there are still commendations nobody has completed yet

Shrouded ghost? Havnt seen one and it’s been 5 years :p

I think the game needs these long grindy things. It keeps you in the game and makes you play more. Once you finished everything. What left to do?

  • @burnbacon yes, a year is a long time. For people who play regularly it's a long time. For those who can't play regularly it's even longer. Your response seems silly to me (personally), almost like you're playing devil's advocate just for the fun of it.

The commendations don't really bother me though, I'll get them eventually. What really bums me out is one of the headlining parts of the season being so potentially rare to find now.

If this scarcity is in fact true, it's incredibly disappointing and makes me wonder why it's so consistently difficult to find a sweet spot with new content. It wasn't too long ago that the skull of siren's song was active 24/7 which contributed to participation nosediving, and now we may have another new piece of content where the pendulum has swung in the complete opposite direction.

  • @habiki

The frequency of the Skull of Siren Song was not - and still is not - the issue with it. The issue was that it offered no Guild or faction Progression in the season that introduced distinction levels for progression. They subsequently added a puny amount of guild rep for turning it in, but it was (way) too little, too late. They could still save the SoSS by making it count towards OOS and Guild progression and allow for Emissary bonus with it. That's literally all they need to do and you'd see more people competing over it all the time.

As for the Horn of Fair Winds, I've got a similar thread going at the moment. It's insane to me that they finally gave the playerbase a fun new toy to create adventures and stories with....and then they made it virtually non existent. Rarity coupled with a high commendation goal, nobody is out just having fun with it in the sandbox. What an absolute waste.

  • @burnbacon that's just sounds like artificial content

I don't disagree with the idea we need long grindy things, but I don't think the blow cones, as they are currently implemented, makes for a good long grindy thing. Sunken Shrines are not usually visited in normal emergent gameplay loops that much, and the spawn rates aren't even 100%. Even with 100% spawn rates, I don't think I'd be spending the time diving to shrines 250 times for the rest of my time playing this game, and people I play with wouldn't be wanting to make stops there. It becomes a task to grind by myself and that's it. Clearing them takes too long for the reward, and leaves you don't moving and more vulnerable for the duration. If blow cones were more common and in a more variety of place, maybe, but we already check sunken ships regularly in our gameplay loops, for fish and kingly loot, and have not seen one in those once. Bone callers on skelly ships, killing emergent spawn enemies, what have you are all fine being grindy, you encounter those constantly. Blow cones are too removed from other activities and too rare to boot to be 250.

  • they need to make them more common to make the horn a viable TOOL to use in the sandbox. the only reason it is rare is so that a commendation is damn near impossible. why even spend the time developing something if it's mainly just going to be sold immediately for the commendation? it's super fun to use but the rarity makes the developement useless. it should be usable in the sandbox regularly so it feels fresh. Thats how they showed it and talked about the horn building up to the season. the comm is insane, but if they want it to be a rare comm then replace the horn and spawn rate for that commendation with an equally rare piece of loot, and make the horn usable to all players instead of just people explicitly going on a hunt for them.

but the commendation is still absolutely insane. there's absolutely no reason for it to be THAT many for such an incredibly low spawnrated loot item.

  • I think the actual fix to this is adding in another way to find the horns. It would be cool if they brought them to regular skull forts so that there was a bigger drive to complete those.

Maybe introduce a new boss or something?

  • @goutfoot-stiner it needs more ways to get, or just maybe more predictable. But I'll be honest the sails weren't worth it.

  • Better make it so any blue bottle piked up gives one. That way you know your going to get one.
