This is why many do not trust kernel-level anti cheat and yeah I to understanding software and hardware issues cringed at that video. With the extra cringe factor of EAC has a bad track record. So many games use it so it's hard to escape. But i'll say this much it's not worked in hunt showdown and i mean anything is better then nothing i guess but again there is not a good track record here.

Which anti cheat has a good track record?

IMO Valorant's anti cheat is pretty good. Played a lot of that and never ran into a cheater. I've seen videos of people cheating, but never actually had to play against or with one.

Sounds similar to what people say about Sea of Thieves, which has no anticheat currently. You'll find a good number of people complaining about Vanguard and the amount of cheaters they run into.

Truth is that no anticheat is impossible to beat, so complaining about "track record" for an anticheat is a matter of perspective because none of them work 100% and their effectiveness is partially based on implementation.

I play other games that use EAC and I've never run into cheaters in those games (that I could detect, anyways), but I know that cheaters exist. It's probably safe to say that there would be more of them without EAC, which is really all an anticheat can do.

  • May I just throw out there too that Drew Stevens did say that EAC was one of the measures they were looking into to reduce cheating. It’s not the one stop solution that’ll solve all their problems.

  • @wolfmanbush
Well true and I am not arguing that. I just wanted to point out how anti cheat works from the technical aspect. Honestly i don't agree with the issues like the sea fort exploit/bug and this should have already been addressed to be honest. However just anti cheats are not capable of dealing with issues of that caliber at this point and even then i would suspect a lot of false positives if they tried to.

Same. And that's good enough for me 🤷‍♂️.

I'm not expecting cheating to go away entirely. But at least there will be fewer cheaters out there.

It'll be an ongoing battle but at least EAC can provide updates outside of the regular SoT update schedule, and keep up with that battle better than the Rare devs can by themselves. Frees Rare up to focus on other things that need to be addressed.

  • @tesiccl I read into that the EAC was the start

  • I'm very happy an anti-cheat is being implemented. The true cheating has certainly gotten out of hand, and I'm hoping that this will at least help to remove most of that.

The reaction that some players have over the first few months is going to be quite funny. I've already gotten 2 messages from people I've run into in the past, asking me what game I'm going to play since I can no longer cheat at SoT. I'm sure more are coming.

There is a part of the community that assumes anyone that can hit a shot is cheating, whether it be pistol, sniper, or cannonball at range. They are going to be shocked when those same players are still hitting the same shots. I'm sure they'll mark it down to "some new undetectable cheat".
