I don't think we'll ever see a live feed of our map on a second screen. That kind of defeats the purpose of why Rare chose to make it an in-world feature, and would give folks with good phones an advantage.
As for stats and stuff, the website works pretty well on mobile (no worse than it does on PC browser). I think just improvemnts to the backend on the website would help a lot.
Daaaaang, this is a double edged sword... It would be cool to have a map on a companion app on my phone, but it absolutely does defeat the purpose of the map table on the ship...
Ok, how about a compromise: pirates have been asking for a while for a small map in our inventory. How about the companion app have a smaller map, say a 3x3 grid, centered on your pirate, not-scrollable? Something that may help with XMTS and riddle maps, but not something that will help with navigating the seas?
Some more features may include destination of current voyage on the table, access to the ship's log book, and guild mates/friends online. I'm sure if Rare put some thought into it, and maybe released it alongside some new season content, it could be cool. I believe there's an XBox app that already does some of the social stuff, but I don't care to download it on my phone.

They actually have a "My Friends" section on this website. You can see "Potential Crewmates" (friends who have played SoT), "Friends Playing Now", and "Recently Met". You can also see Guilds but it suffers from not being very reliable (this is the same whether on a computer or mobile).
If they can just improve the backend on the website, make it more reliable, and add some more social features, then I think it would be a great companion to the game.
