Ahoy!
So, Fortnite (made in unreal, same engine as SoT) just switched from hit scan to projectile bullets. No hitreg.
So, just saying:
take notes Rare
@riptide3683
Except they are having big hit reg issues go look into it. In people's replays you can see solid headshot impacts doing 0 damage. And fortnite doesn't have to deal with player movement+ ship/wave movement + speed/wind direction. It's not as simple as people make it sound and is no wonder it's taking them time to figure out.
If I'm not mistaken, Sea of Thieves runs on the infamous azure servers, I think Gears 5 does too.
Gears 5 doesn't have those complex mathematical operations and still has an abominable HitReg, so I don't think it's a problem with that, but with the servers being cr4p.
Rogue Company is another game that has some horrible HitReg problems, guess what - the servers have a very low tickrate and more than 1/4 of the shots do not exist.
If a server is not updated at the same frequency as the computer/console that connects to it (In this case 60 frames/60hz at least) these problems appear.
What is the Azure update frequency? Hopefully 30hz? It is normal for the things you see in this game to happen if half of the information is out of sync.
CSGO does not have HitReg problems, its servers have a 128hz tickrate, some private ones even have 256hz so Hitreg is non-existent.
COD had these problems at the beginning of Black Ops 4, they increased in frequency and the problems disappeared.
Is it that difficult for Rare?
No matter how much they put patches, they are not going to work if those patches are put on the dump servers we have
@mrestiercol
Don't get the wrong idea, I 100% agree Rare needs to do something about their servers for this game to survive another 5 years, I've said as much on other posts.
At the moment though there's no official confirmation if that's something that's on the cards, they are just "working on it" is all we know.
I think when Mike Chapman was talking to Blubber on a podcast and was asked about if keg rowboats were coming back, the answer was yes, but that right now they were causing server stability issues and they were working on it. Right now the servers can't handle a rowboat with a bomb being added unless they take something away which is insane and leaves no scope for anything big to be added like new ships/map expansions etc until it's sorted.
Can't think of any other game that has to do this amount of mathematics and fine tuning to get things working as intended. Tbf Rate have done an amazing job working with the tools they have...I just hope they get a lot more tools to use so that this game can continue to grow and not become Destiny 2.
