Pirate Personalities

  • Ever play Tomadachi life for the Nintendo DS? If not, it's a thing where you make Miis with personalities on an island like Animal Crossing! It's a shame seeing the pirate generator being put to the side without acknowledging all the unique pirates it makes. What if Sea of Thieves expanded upon your pirate's persona using Tomadachi Life as a template?

Pirate Gender Identity: Pick from Male, Female, or Non binary. Will effect the way NPCs and people interact with you. Example:
"I wouldn't mess with him on a plunder spree!"
"I wouldn't mess with her on a plunder spree!"
"I wouldn't mess with them on a plunder spree!"

Pirate Nickname: Cosmetic, Useful for Twitch Streamers, and other Gamers who don't want their gamertag exposed. Your Pirate's name could be whatever you want it to be! Example: GT: Nyanbonecrush. In game name display: Yumi Lancer

Personality Sliders and Personality: Like in tomadachi life, you can choose traits from a scale that either match your character's persona, or not. Put it all together, you got your class of personality, and subclass! Can be altered at anytime, or randomized for no charge. Example:

    Quirky (---l--------------)Not Quirky
    Polite (--------------l---) Direct
    Serious(------l-----------) Relaxed
    Flat (---------------l--) Expressive

    Results:
    Personality: Outgoing
    Sub Class: Leader

Voice Options: Choose from a bunch of pre-recorded voices that will speak whenever possible. Sound British, like a cowboy, cute and soft, like a grizzly lumberjack in a women's body. Male and female voices for each option, You can toggle this, as well as the option to hear other's voices in the options. Can occasionally have conversations with allies and enemies. Toggle-able in options.

Flavor Dialogue: Whenever doing a task and depending on your personality type, your pirate may say something. Example: Rigging a sail "A rigging i will go, a rigging I will go...." Hit with a cannon "AAAAAAAAA lucky shot!" Sails while in combat: "C'mon. turn, turn, turn!" while sailing idling: "Ever hear the tragedy of Pirate Plague em's the wry?" Joke: "Why couldn't the little pirate see a play? It was rated ARR!!!" Joke Response: "that's it. I'm locking him in the brig. "

Pirate Logbook update: Let's face it. We hate seeing the book blank when the ship sinks. Aside from fixing this, I also suggest adding in personal details of your pirate-sona in the logs. Like it will say Nyanbonecrush Aka: Yumi Lancer, Outgoing Leader, Has Napoleon Complex.

Weakness/ Flaw: No one's perfect. You may see overtime a flaw on your pirate based off of time and experiences developed. Or randomly generated. Example: Yumi's weakness: Napoleon Complex/shortness.

While small, these additions will make a pirate feel more like a character you cherish than an empty shell with cosmetics. What do you think!? :D

  • @nyanbonecrush it's called and hear me out on this one "imagination" you make your Pirate who you want no rules or sliders you have a mic and the ability to role play for example my Pirate is named Boyer Fathon he's Captain of King George's Fleet and enjoy a good fights, exploring and tankards of grog he's always looking for new places to explore and love ancient ruins he also is quick witted(smart a$$) ....all this is just off the top of my head I don't need it written in the game cuz it's how I play and with a mic how I speak assuming the other crew is using in game mics

  • @nyanbonecrush jump on your mic and there’s your entire pirate’s personality right there ;)

  • I completely support what @Tesiccl & @OtherFanboy have said. Just use yer imagination n turn on yer mic to roleplay n have fun on the seas. No need for such complications.

  • I would say as an observation that most the people that play the game love to imagine themselves to be their character. If you give the pirate character it's own personality, etc then wouldn't that just kind of negate that a little bit. I think there's a big clue in the fact the game is 90% first person, you are supposed to perceive your pirate as an avatar for yourself. Just a thought.

  • I consider it a no harm suggestion that adds opportunity for some so it's cool with me.

If they keep the core of SoT where I/others can just go out there and do whatever and hunt extremely rare shrouded ghosts and generally do what I've/we've always done it really doesn't take away from the organic experience to go in this direction if they want to.

Might not be my kind of thing or maybe it would be, I dunno, but there is likely some demand there, RP is around and a part of SoT gameplay for quite a few.

Options and opportunity are cool, when it's designed in a way that allows people to stay outta it and do their own thing if they prefer it that way.

SoT really isn't as random anymore, there is individuality as part of the overall experience, that means this kind of thing makes more sense in current SoT than it did a few years ago.

  • I don't think this is really feasible with the number of languages that would need to be supported for each possible variation. If you want your pirate to say something in character, you could always just do it yourself?

Game provided RP options are always going to be way more limited than what you could provide through text or voice chat anyways, so I don't see this as a real support for RP playstyles either. I'm not sure who this is intended to target, actually.

  • Pirate Personality Quiz

  • Seeing how so many Npc and animated cutscenes have already been made...this would be a huge load of work just to change certain character "reactions" and calling Pirates by.....a Group of pirates?
So its the age of Pirares, Not modern times.

  • Uhm... In this game you are the Pirate that you perform that day , and as no day is similar to another day , this way your posibilities are endless. I do love roleplaying and there are days that i'm on fire , inspired as they say , and other days i'm just tired and i don't have that spark , still i would not want to be put in a role as you describe . Why would i want certain texts to be displayed as i can freely ( i hope) use my own voice? i mean , when you roleplay , you can simulate an enormous amount of personalities , including your own, and you are only limited by your own fantasy , which can range from very rich to poor . Don't make that this game forces you into a frame on which your choices on how you interact with all those who you come across with becomes limited just because of those frames.
