Red Sea exploit?

  • Greetings
Just had a voyage, where my crew and I had a great fight until they ran out of supplies, because they lost all courage and just started running.

They did this for a while, before turning into the red sea and staying far out. Further than we were willing to go, and we could not understand how they were still alive, until we headed back into playable area. As they emerged, we went in for attack, and they went straight out into the red sea again. If they were alive and fine, bailing frantically, then we would be fine too, so we followed, and immediately sank.

We respawned at Galleons Grave, and went back to map markings we left (grid squares UVW-3). We found them re-entering the playable area, and chased again.
They turned 180 degrees, and went along UVW-3. We intentionally followed close behind to see what would happen, and sure enough, we just went off into oblivion again (sank), while they remained afloat.

At that point, we logged off.

Is this a bug, or were they hacking? They were on open mic, which is not exactly what I would expect from 2 hackers on a three man brigantine. I stupidly did not screenshot the name of their captaincy ship or note the player names.

  • @lorddecima based on your respawn, and if they were at the top right hand corner of the map, then they’ve used the Shores of Gold tall tale checkpoint to help them stay in the Red Sea without taking damage. This isn’t an exploit or cheating, but rather using the tools to go through against unsuspecting crews. If it was elsewhere, then yes they were bucketing like crazy.

I love that trick. It's only worked once or twice because most crews keep the checkpoint now. That was actually the first checkpoint I saved when they introduced them lol

  • Aha, interesting. I understand now. Do not like it though :/

  • I have also seen people not near shores of gold do this. A clearer boarder would be nice.

  • @lorddecima just make sure you have a shores of gold checkpoint at all times, when someone runs in there, vote it up and you can give chase

Once in a while a chase can be fun but I wouldn't become a habitual chaser

Imo it's no coincidence that players that don't regularly chase are typically more chill about the game/environment than those that regularly chase for long amounts of time

Long term, the amount of frustrations a person can avoid and the amount of new opportunities people can find by moving on from those scenarios is significantly game changing, in a more enjoyable direction imo. If someone plays this game a lot it makes a big difference.
