Bonds Forged on the Sea of Thieves

  • Imagine a sloop with two pirates who are feeling bored and decide to level up as Reapers. On the sea, they come across another sloop that they want to mess with. After some banter, they discover that one of the players is a newcomer and could use some help. Now, the two Reapers have a decision to make: sink or assist. One of them wants to uphold the pirate code and help the newcomer, while the other wants to sink them. They decide to assist the pirate and then eventually engage in some antics and pranks together. After a successful adventure, they set sail and decide to give everything they have to the newcomer and promise to remember each other for future adventures.

This is how we met on the Sea of Thieves almost a year ago, and we just had our first in-real-life meetup. We discussed how following that one pirate code rule could have changed everything if I hadn't done it.

You might be wondering why I'm sharing this now. After all, there are many stories like this on the seas, where pirates meet and form real-life friendships. What are your stories, if you have any?

But for now, see you on the Sea of Thieves.

  • @kpg1711 nice story, found also some friends on the seas and we meet each other every now and then...looking forward to next month!

My (ex)gf and me had to go to Snake Island, but there was another sloop...we decided to go there anyway, because they anchored facing the front towards the island...must be starters, I thought
We arrived and I told them in english about how to park properly...
One of them swam over and started climbing up our ladder, I knocked him off with the sword and told him "not without invitation"
After a little chat we realized, that we talk the same language and made out to go on a galleon together...just a few weeks later we met the first time, as we live about 3 hours away from each other
This was 3 1/2 years ago and one of them became one of my best friends

  • @schwammlgott nice, thx for sharing.

  • It's been interesting for me. I'm a solo that keeps to myself socially more often than not but I do openly offer encouragement and the like as a resource so it has lead to friendships over the years.

To me as far as the positive social part goes I mainly am just proud of a lot of people that I met on servers and some that are more public about their business. I see people work through things and get themselves into better situations for themselves. I see people go through stuff that I am familiar with and stuff I am fortunate enough to not have gone through and it's a privilege to have observed the strength and perseverance of others.

Even though I prefer to keep mostly to myself in these types of scenarios it has been rewarding over the years to see the talent, heart, and decency of so many around the community.
