New Shipclass/Number of player on Galeone

  • Currently, a maximum of 4 players are possible on the largest class of ships. However, I could imagine playing on a galleon with a 5 to 9 man crew. So 6 to 10 players. Or maybe create a new ship class for a maximum of 10 players. I think it would make the whole gaming experience more realistic.

What do you think about the idea?

  • @mikechipp I think you haven't considered very far outside of your own personal experience. That's most of a servers capacity taken up by one ship and a wider imbalance when they go against solo sloopers. To be frank, it's ridiculous. Gally is already very powerful with competent crew

If you made bigger ships you'd need to balance it so that more players are needed to actively manage it too which would end up with a bad experience when you get freeloaders who don't contribute.

    Hard no from every angle

  • Every ship and the number of crew has been a deliberate design by Rare so each crew has something to do. How ridiculous would it be to have 10 people on a ship with more than half of them standing around doing nothing most of the time. Ideas like this are never thought out further than “I’ve been told I should want this and now I will suggest it”, just claim they’re a good idea, and would improve gameplay but in reality that couldn’t be further from the truth. Also not the first time it’s been suggested so once again, a hard no.

You'd be the only ship on the server which would make pve servers an actual thing.

  • However, I could imagine playing on a galleon with a 5 to 9 man crew

Tell us how you balance it.

On a gally, like everyone knows, there are three sails that could be steered from two sides. With a realistic crew distribution, there could theoretically be a helmsman and captain and the rest would be able to easily occupy themselves on and below deck, provided that everyone knows their task and is instructed by the helmsman or captain. So it would be possible without anyone standing around stupidly. Admittedly 10 would be a bit overpowered, but with 6 it would certainly be fun. And the 10 men would then be for an even larger ship. Which doesn't necessarily have to be the case.

  • Maybe in a future game... but right now the game was built to be played on the Xbox One, and with all the systems of wind, water, 6(7) ship physics interacting with the world physics with projectiles, etc: the limit of players on a server is 16(+HG invader). So if a ship had 10 players on it, that would mean that there is only space for 6 more players... or 1-3 more ships.

I really do hope in Sea of Thieves 2 more things can be done (Especially since it would undoubtedly be built on the current Unreal engine) but right now we are not going to see a bigger ship.

  • @mikechipp

You can 6-8 man a galley. The way to do it is server hop/restart until the two crews are on the same server or ask a crew that is about to leave to invite you over. THEN you ally up, scuttle and play. Of course the second crew have to stay on the boat at all times and if they go to the ferry solo the other boat back to the main one.

  • @mikechipp I'm mean you can have more than 4 players on a galleon but only four are assigned to said ship .....as much I'd love a new ship the ships are a massive moving object and whole balance issue more so than the current 3 ship types, if you have never fought a galleon crew with 8-12 players I assure you it's darn near unsinkable
