We need to be able to use our overall clothing with Skelly curse

  • Skelleton curse cosmetics are goofy and terrible looking .. As if they were made for elementary school children to troll and have a laugh ..

I want to be able to stand out and still retain some aspect of my " living self " being able to keep my style and clothes while a skelly to be recognizable still but different ...

  • This idea has been exhausted from the launch of the skeleton curse, and even before it as people showed their concerns. I don't remember the exact answer but somewhere along the line there was a point that they just had to make it so skeleton curse has it's own customization slots due to technical limitations.

I think it's a little harsh, rather unhelpful and very subjective to call the currently existing curse items "goofy and terrible, made for children". Besides, insults aren't any good way to get an idea across...

  • I had an idea about this, it would be a set of skeleton cosmetics called “Reformed Skeleton” (or something like it). It would slightly change the shape of your cursed bones (into one of a few categories like wide, long, short, etc.) to make your character able to equip real cosmetics, with the curse.

It would be a medium/higher level curse cosmetic for each section (legs, feet, chest and arms, hands, head), and allow you to equip jackets, gloves and hooks, boots and all other cosmetics.

One other neat feature would be the ability to mix and match the items, like equipping the ocean crawler cosmetics for the head, legs and feet, but have the crab torso. along with this, bone colors will be able to pair with this.

This way, the dev.s at Rare don’t have to stress about making a whole new set of cosmetics for each skeleton, but only a handful for different skeleton presets.

Huh... I thought being reborn and leaving your old self behind was the whole point of the cult- I mean faction.

Yep. They gave you what they promised. You ARE reborn.

    I see no issue here.

  • Sea of Thieves has a very unique way of having cosmetics work. If you look at most games that have cosmetics, they are made to work on exact models. If you look at World of Warcraft, there isn't a lot of customization of your character's models, so they really only have to make sure that the items work with two gender models for each species in the game.

Sea of Thieves has a WIDE assortment of models, so their clothing pieces are designed to work with all of them... but they aren't sculpted to simulate cloth. If you were able to separate the models you would see that the clothing pieces intersect the model. (For example, the Belt is basically a flat cylinder).

For them to have existing clothing pieces work with skeletons (Who's size/shape is based off of your pirate's model). They would have to re-model and re-texture every single clothing piece currently in the game. Some of those assets would be-re-usable... but since they would have to adjust the UV's they its not as simple as you would think.

Would it be cool? absolutely... but truthfully I would rather them make cosmetics that are unique to the skeletons. Granted it would be nice if they made some unique cosmetics based off of current ones. A Fallen Pirate Legend costume with rusted chains, and tattered purple cloth would be fun, or a Grim Dark Adventurer one... or just a Reaper One.

  • Skelleton curse cosmetics are goofy and terrible looking

    Well..that is by design.

  • Well I already said that here but I have little hope that they will change.

The skeleton curse is wrong, it shouldn't adapt to the character model, all skeleton NPCs are the same size, not fat, strong, thin...

If they were all the standard size of a skeleton, it would be infinitely easier to create clothes, and we would finally look like real skeletons.

The difference between the current model and the right one.

  • Well according to Rare cosmetics for the skelly curse are really hard to make. However that didn't seem like a big problem when they added LeChuck's costume (which is the better skeleton curse imo). But don't worry I am sure they listen to all our feedback...

  • @gosva5434 yeah, like they did with captaincy. Because that obviously didnt get straight abandoned after launch xd. wink wink

  • @thorumsu

Its BS , Flameheart never left his own self aside neither the other Skelly curse captain .. they all had the same similar style and pursue the same and or similar goals they had before getting curses in many cases

The goofy ridiculous Skelly we got are no captains or pirates legends like we should be , they aren't anything they are randoms trash fort skelly that die in waves .. Or trolling Halloween costumes meant to amuse children ..

  • @lleorb

The skelly can be the skeleton of our character which mean they could let us use all the clothes and accessory we already have access to the only difference is we would be a skelly

actually, the problem is most of the player clothing does not have an inner layer, meaning it would be invisible from inside out. Someone at Rare obviously thought its not worth spending too much time on reworking all the skins to fit the skelly curse - so they just came up with this cheap balloney.
Man this game really does have a lot of cash grab, half baked, aimlessly implemented stuff lying around, doesnt it xd.
I was really into getting both the skelly and the ghost curse - right untill i saw what they actually look like. They are both sooo ugly. I dont want them anymore xd. 0 incentive to grind the wins out for this one

They also have just about zero incentive to add any Skeleton Curse cosmetics right now given that less than 1% of the player population even has the curse unlocked yet. I would be surprised if we get any new Skeleton Curse cosmetics before the one year anniversary of Season 8, though there's kind of no point in adding more Skeleton Curse cosmetics right now considering the long grind to unlock cosmetics once you have the base curse.

I definitely agree that the Skeleton Curse needs more customization but I think it's going to be a while before they add anything new for the Curse.

  • @parrotlord6426 Would be interested to know how something available for free is a "cash grab" 😂

  • @parrotlord6426

Yet they can make it work for 100% of characters , all clothing , all curses , all scars , all hats and so on and on automatically scale and adjust to characters size , weight , height, sexe and so on ..

So it couldn't be that hard to make our clothing fits on skelly so we can have more personality and so on ..

Even the Reapers are skeleton with dress up clothes ..

  • @stew360 just checked and you haven't even unlocked the skelly curse yet.

Imagine demanding something be changed, by insulting the design....when you don't even have first hand experience of it.

Feedback on the gold versions next 😅

  • or we need more skelly cosmetics

Yeah, you are right. "Cash grab" does injustice to the game.
I didnt think about it when I wrote it.
I guess I just wanted to voice my frustration on season 7 and 8, and how it seemingly appears that both captaincy and PvP have been kind of abandoned with a ton of lasting issues, while Developers work on new stuff.
Thats why It feels kind of bad - the ever repeating promise of something great on the horizon, something magnificient for us to keep us invested. Then once you hold it in your hands and start to play with it, you see that the outer appearance was apparently far more important than the actual content. Imho, ofc.
Not to say the content is bad, or unplayable or anything like that. Its still good content.
But with a ton of issues, and some very much wanted features missing.
    Thats just frustrating.
But Hey, in todays times, with Diablo Immortal, and all that other greedy companies and games, I am still really thankful for Rares approach on SoT. Its policies and attitude towards the consumer are definitly among the best out there.
And I still like to play the game. I guess my frustration just comes from me loving the game so much xd

  • @hiradc

I went to the lair many time i have seen all the cosmetics for the skelly and 100% look silly trollish and childish .. 100% of them

Its all about taste there is also some clothing that i find terrible and childish ... but at least we have a choice to mix and match as we see fit ...

Here are all the damned captains and bosses into the game Ashen lords and what not they all use similar clothings to their Living selfs and retain some sort of personality traits with their clothing they aint some generic goofy skelly like what we get from rare preventing us to use our clothing lines .. we should be able to use our eyepatch , our clothes and so on with the curse as much as we please ...

Here all the silly skelly cosmetics that are basically each of them jokes ..

  • @dark-master-jmk The lack of cosmetics is exactly his main problem. That is why so few people have it, it is not worth it. Your mental health of grinding pvp can be solved by spending 10$ on the emporium on the skelly costumes. They have to bring more incentive to it.

  • @gosva5434 the LeChuck costume basically is the same as every other non customizable costume in the game. Adds/modifies the geometry and texture to the existing character model… but it is completely static without the ability to really customize it.

They skelly curse has a lot of combinations with its existing options, and eventually more will be added… but even if it was a static 1 size for all model, every single item still needs to be customized for it.

  • @stew360 every single clothing piece will need to be re-designed to work with them. Unless they start adding restrictions on what you can wear.

Sorry you can’t wear a belt unless you are also wearing a shirt or jacket.

Oh! You want to wear an open jacket to show off your ribs? We didn’t actually model the inside of the jacket so to have that on the skeleton curse you need to also wear a full torso shirt.

You may think it is easy to just “click yes” but they literally will need to remodel the vast majority of the clothing pieces to fit the skeletons.

  • @reverend-toast

They could simply do a invisible outlines of ( flesh ) that sustain all type of clothing following the original character lines

Well these pirates skelly captain wear clothes and belts .. no problem

It is a cash grab, but not by Rare, but to grabbed from them (Rare), I would suppose.

  • @stew360 i would recommend looking into 3D modeling for game design. What you are thinking is “simple” is an incredible workload for 3D artists. Especially when it involves existing assets.

  • @stew360 and those are individually modeled characters without room for customization.

  • It's a technical limitation.

Don't like it? There's a "we're hiring" button at the bottom of the page if it's so easy to fix...

  • @reverend-toast

there is a lot of potential work around for this if needed be .. Like create a invisible outer layer where you see the bones inside but the clothing fit the character as it is supposed to

Also there is no reason to have only goofy and silly looking skeleton skins

  • @stew360 said in We need to be able to use our overall clothing with Skelly curse:

    @reverend-toast

Also there is no reason to have only goofy and silly looking skeleton skins

That is by design. Reapers were always the cartoon villains. Just talk to anyone in the lair to find out. I think it is part of the appeal.

there is a lot of potential work around for this if needed be .. Like create a invisible outer layer where you see the bones inside but the clothing fit the character as it is supposed to

Even if they managed to do that, the clothes wouldn't be attached your skeleton. They would awkardly float.

Not to mention that most of the clothing pieces don't even have insides. They would have to remake the whole cosmetics system AND remake the pieces.

@PithyRumble already said my bit. If you truly think that it is an easy thing to do... There is a "Rare Are Hiring" button at the bottom of this screen.

And before you reply "I am not a developer, it is their job!", then why are you making comments about a topic you don't understand?

  • @stew360 Do you know what Backface Culling is? Do you know what Normals are?

You can't just put a "Transparent" Texture on parts of a clothing piece, cuz then you will the the polygons on the other side... and right now for the majority of the clothing in the game, the "Other side" is the Back. So if you have a normal, non open jacket, The model is basically a cylinder: with there being literally nothing between the front and the back, and the neck and arms are designed to accommodate the gloves or standard pirate hands. If you put just a regular pirate pants on a skeleton, the waist would literally be a dome with bones coming out of it... not like the current skeleton pants where you see the inside of the waistline of the pants and the pelvis of the skeleton.

Also, not all the skeletons look "Goofy" Im currently rocking the mottled bone texture, and the metal Jaw one, and he looks pretty menacing.

  • @reverend-toast
Fair enough, but my point still stands. They allocate way too many resources making skins for the emporium when the main game is lacking. This would be fine for a F2P game or if SoT didn't have cosmetic progression only. I would assume 1 or 2 cosmetics in the span of 6+ months isn't that much to ask...

  • @thorumsu
You don't have to be a chef to make a comment about the food being burnt. Nobody said game development is easy or that making cosmetics for the skelly curse is a walk in the park. People are just disappointed that this aspect of the game is severely lacking , and all we get is emporium updates. We are not talking about 4 people in a basement, but a multimillion dollar company owned by Microsoft.

  • Well, they released two or three complete skeleton costumes after the skeleton curse was released, and still, we are waiting for some worthy includements on that curse. People say that too few people have the curse. Well, maybe people will feel more biased towards getting that curse, if they had something worth fighting the grind for. In the curse's current state, i'd rather buy the dark warsmith or spinal, and save myself mental issues from the grind.

  • Said it before, I'll say it again.

Spinal is the best skelly curse.

  • @gosva5434 They have added lots of cosmetics, some tied behind commendations, others not. But in the past 6 months there have been several clothing pieces and weapons for the original 3 factions.
