Hour Glass Defence Rep Not Worth It

  • Defence needs work. I was in a defensive battle with grade 3 loot on board. Was a long fight, a good fight. But in the end I sunk. What did i get for all the time i spent gathering treasure and taking all the risk? A miniscule amount of rep. Luckily i was close to 64 so it did give the tiniest nudge I needed to get to 64. How did this pass testing? Anyways back to smashing my face against a brick wall....

  • The issue is that it takes so long to get invaded anyway. Case in point: I did two hours of Athena stacking after sinking 3 ships and got to a Grade 4 stack of loot. Didn't get invaded once. In two hours of play time, not even once.
It's just not a viable way to play right now.

Have fun with your brick wall, though!

  • Winning will always be more profitable. That how everything works

Of course, you get something for holding your own. But winning will be best.

Grade 3, you should of sold or turn in that hourglass.

  • @hungry-owl3438

    Here's my suggestion.

  • @burnbacon Yet winning is also rewarding you a laughable amount. With the bonus it was a little bit better.

The worst part of this sentence is "two hours of Athena stacking" then "grade 4 faction treasury." That time investment to allegiance reward ratio is simply terrible.

Obviously winning should net more. But taking all the risk should also net a bit more than next to nothing. I was stacking loot because I wanted someone to actually get rewarded for playing the mode. I normally try to do this when possible. I let the person know theres loot on board and itll be worth their time.

  • The boost you get from loot is only for wins, but as it stands, with how long dives take some times, you may as well play passive and just stack loot to pass the time and get the bonus if you do win.

Never really thought of it that way.

  • @goldsmen
Thats basically what i was doing. The guy probably made about 200k. It would be nice if I got like a quarter level.
I invaded someone else and won after. I got way more rep for a fraction of a fraction of the time. This is very lopsided. Im still going to do defence because I still like the idea of it being worth something to someone.
There just needs to be incentive to do anything in this mode. Rare needs to fix this mode before its too late. Plus queue times are only getting worse. I think its more than just low stamp pop. I think many people are quitting the mode.

Working as intended. They want you playing the game as long as possible.

  • @hungry-owl3438 when you actually defend with a good haul you get good rep, sinking always gives the same be it defense or offense

  • @grizzly2511
I can't disagree with you there

  • You didn't successfully defend the loot though, that's where the value comes in...

    Didn't you though?

Defend: to guard against assault or injury. I raised the hourglass, I brought treasure onto my ship, risking invasion for hours at a time, guarding my loot against assault. Why shouldn't someone defending treasure earn reasonable allegiance for guarding the treasure from assault?

  • @lordqulex because the first time you were attacked you sunk. I understand what you're getting at, but putting loot on your ship shouldn't reward you on it's own, because then you're being rewarded in a pvp faction for pure pve. It's the involvement of invader which adds the value

Governments pay their soldiers, Ramsay and Junior pay us when we cash in our hourglass. How do you think they get the gold to pay us?

Why shouldn't the time I invested at risk of being invaded count? It's not my fault I wasn't invaded. My time should be rewarded with allegiance.

  • @hiradc
Well technically I did sink 2 ships that attacked me on the map before I was invaded....

  • @hungry-owl3438

Ah, but if they weren't running hourglass it didn't "count," because some defenses count more than others I guess. That's a bit of a design oversight if you ask me...

  • @lordqulex all of your comments have hints of you don't like pvp and want ways of being able to cheese the rep. In a battle for sea of thieves why should sinking random ships that don't have hourglass add to your stash value?

Cheese aside if that were a thing it would increase defenders who are good at pvp sinking every ship in sight whether fresh spawn parked at outpost, tall talers etc

  • @hiradc
But there is allmost allways some middle ground, like perhaps that:

We can multiply loss xp by stack grade you are houling, that way puting time and effort into colleting treasures are not put in vain.

I like PVP well enough, what I don't like are mindless repetitive tasks. Supply, dive, combat, repeat. Supply dive combat repeat. Supplydivecombatrepeat. Very boring for me.

I personally want them to buff defense so I can get fair allegiance for defending faction treasury, fair being the key word there. I don't think the small amount of allegiance you earn for losing while defending is fair compensation for the time put in collecting treasure. If you accept the risk, you should get rewarded appropriately.

Rare lauds their PVEVP sandbox, all I'm asking is that hourglass get some minor remediation so they are more aligned with the PVEVP claims.
