Seriously, what's wrong with matchmaking???

  • I just played three hourglass rounds in a row, versus the same crew that all had the curse, and the battle was over in under a minute. This is not skill based matchmaking. This is not streak based matchmaking (I've yet to get above a 3 streak). This just seems FIFO matchmaking and that is NOT FUN.

Please, Rare, I'm trying here. I've done my best to convince my friends to come back to the game. I've done my best to convince players I find in the Discord not to leave the game due to a bad experience. But seriously, I'm almost at the verge of leaving myself. What is wrong with this? Why can't I seem to find a match with anyone in the ballpark of my skill level?? Grinding losses to get the curses is just going to be unbearable. PEOPLE ARE LEAVING YOUR GAME! FIX THIS!

I wish this didn't make me laugh as hard as it did.

  • Region based. Try open crew as it will group you outside your region or get a VPN.

  • @mouse-n-keybord

You think no one outside of NAE has the curse yet or something?

I think region plays only a part. If you're sitting 30+ minutes constantly I'd suggest another region to widen your player pool in finding a game. For example your pool may say an estimated time of 10 minutes or more but you can try an open crew that puts you into another region for faster queues.

If NAE is anything like west then it dies out around this time and picks back up at about 11 pm my time. I'm already 125 on Servants and 80 on guardians meanwhile giving away over 600+ wins while getting my first curse.

Out of morbid curiosity, what ship size did you most use?

  • It’s beyond broken right now. The system is genuinely unplayable in AUSTRALIA.
In that I can’t play more than 2 mat he’s in 5 hours.

  • I think my best run was about a match an hour we got three matches before we gave up because of waiting

  • @xxx-link-xxx-12 not to mention the fact that some of the matches last an hour or more in and of themselves.

  • @bronzeinquiztor

Those are the worst. That's one of the reasons I don't go out of my way to overload on supplies with crews. We either waste money buying everything and then die to a crew full of cursed pirates, or the battle will last an hour as two evenly matched crews reset dozens of times.

If the battle lasts more than like 10 minutes, I just let them sink me. (Partially also in hopes of it lowering my MMR and getting more battles in.)

I used a brig. Faster sinks and resets cause sometimes solo sloopers ran and waste time. People are complaining about queue times and some even don't belive me but I have an entire post documenting it practically.

Heck my newest method is being ran through my phones browser after finding out that cloud gaming works flawlessly and with my Xbox controller.

Either way the curses are not that difficult to earn with an average of 100 hours give or take depending on queue times. Open crew can be a headache but can be a breath of fresh air when you are without your crew and you can win some games plus it might put you in a better region.

  • Player with 2k hours and TSD here. I only know how to cannon well, a little over average. EDIT: I play only sloops. Sometimes solo-sloop.

Im only rank 16 in the grind for Athena curse, and 11 for Skeleton.

As of right now, i managed to reach 4 win streak once by tooth and nail against people who already have the curse unlocked. Had to fight, and lost against NAL sails on my third fight. Getting matched against players who not only double gun properly, but are skilled enough to farm me by hijacking the ship and placing it by the borders as they spawn camp me as they're taking supplies. Had to fight a cannoneer who landed every single long range cannon, with chainshots at almost max distance too.

How is this fair, fun or engaging?

I empathize man. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I'm the GOAT at pvp, but I first set sail during the Fate OTD Content Update and I believe Arena was already toxic/broken by then so I got a few levels and then just quit because it bored me. I honestly feel the only people who are having fun right now are the LSD/TSD crowd that roll in and stomp any and everyone they play against. I don't mind losing, but we're talking about an overwhelming majority of players not being able to even achieve Champion level not even once. This is BAAAAAAAD.

  • @lordqulex im a TSD and I run in to very skilled people almost every match. Even I'm having trouble keeping streaks and all my matches end up being long since we are about the same skill as our enemy and with literallythousands of supplies, the worst part is the lack of rewards even if you win. The biggest problem is the streak system is not compatible withe the SBMM system since you should only win 50 percent of the time on average so the grind is insane.

  • i can't even get a match, as a solo sloop.

  • Yeah I don't know how but Rare messed this up bad. I sat in queue for 30 minutes on brig yesterday and just said I am done and went to play another game for the night. These current queue times are genuinely worse than arenas... And that game mode needed 4 ships to get started lol.

One of the funny things to me is how Streamers have started naming their channel "All I want for xmas is PVP" or "Watch me sit in queue". It's so bad it's becoming a community meme, or has been and I'm late to the party.

  • @lordqulex that's because no one wants to play the new mode either because of the supplies, the matchmaking and the runners. the same thing will happen as arena only 1% of the players will want to continue playing

  • @chip-hazard8275 said in Seriously, what's wrong with matchmaking???:

I'm not complaining about that. If the mega-sweats get their own pvp mode and it keeps their toxicity off the PVE(VP)ers that's fine by me. The challenge is locking the curses 100% (exaggerating I know) of the community wants behind a mode 1% of the community likes is simply convoluted seppuku. As I said above, people are leaving the game for this nonsense.

  • Indeed, if it wasn't for the Ghost Curse, I wouldn't even be bothering. I don't enjoy PVP, and i'm not a PVPer, but i've always wanted a Ghost Curse

  • Out of curiosity me and my friends decided to see how long we could sit in queue last night. We made it to 4.5 hours without a match in NA Central region. The matchmaking is completely broken for most people to the point it's unplayable. Since the release of Season 8, I have only managed to get 12 fights. 8am-8pm are peak hours in our experience. My brother managed to get a match or two from 8pm to 12am. Outside of those windows, it's impossible to get a match. Rare really needs to rework how this matchmaking works

Can I ask what is your guys play time, current rep levels and W/L ratio? What have been your estimated times? I find it fascinating to hear these kinds of stats from Central.

But in regards to your queue ..it's bugged. You need a new boat/server most likely and you'll get a match quicker that way.

    --------------‐------------------------------------------'
Rare missed out on making the PvP experience fun for everyone by finding opponents at your own level.
The MMR doesn't work at all.

MMR must be ranked by skill, not wins.
If Rare doesn't overhaul that quickly, this mode will break just like Arena.

  • @bavariabull It's not even based on wins. I have like 13 wins and I'm playing against crews with the curse...

  • @lordqulex The whole MMR is just total s h i t, when you play it you want opponents at your level and not people who dominate you.

I would rather surface than get sunk or should the game ask me if there are only stronger opponents.

You have to do a skill-based MMR and separate the players into classes, but don't do as much garbage as it is now.

  • Another problem is the toxicity of players, evry time I played with people always I've to report them for the amount of insult I take if we got a sink, I feel tired of this update
