[REQUEST] Athena's Fortune - Level Earning Rate of Voyages

  • Just got done with a 2 hour session. Completed a Devils Roar AF Voyage, and am really disappointed. For 2 hours of Gameplay, I increased half a level....

    Half a level!

Please adjust the rate at which you increase your Emissary Experience, so that by the end of the voyage, you have comfortably earned Level 5. I want to be able to continue playing, by grabbing the Emissary Quests. I do not want to do a whole other Voyage. I was able to barely get to Level 4. It just doesn't seem worth it and it really pulls me out of the experience.

I'm not asking for more experience for turning in Loot, just the rate at which you are able to Level your Emissary Flag. Seems more than reasonable...

I agree, the original and the lava land Athena level you up way too slow.

If you want quicker to get a higher rank in Athena Emissary, try the Veil Voyage. It takes less time than an original or lava land Athena and should get you to rank 5.

  • I'd recommend checking out the new Legend of the Veil voyages, plus, Athena isn't supposed to be easy to rank up.

  • As someone who loves the ‘Roar and is currently (occasionally) grinding Athena, I fe the current reward for the risk on Ashen Athena voyages just doesn’t compare to Legend of the Veil. You can hit Grade 4 doing just the first two segments, cancel, repeat, and hit Grade 5 in a fraction of the time it takes to do it in the Roar. I don’t want Athena leveling to be any easier (and kinda feel LotV is actually a little imbalanced in the other direction), but LotV seems to be the fastest way to get there.

  • I think the current levelling is fine.

Plenty of PLs got to PL10 with just plain old Athena voyages. No ashen variants. No emissaries. Just the long grind. With catching chickens involved!

If you want to pad your emissary, Thieves Haven runs still exist. One of those and an athena quest should be a grade 5 easily enough. Do it before or after an athena run and you'll be fine.

Veil voyages are higher risk for the faster level up. Raising an emissary is inherently accepting a risk for the multiplier so this shouldn't be an issue. Sure, you throw a tornado up in the sky, but if ou don't like it, take the long road.

Some people think doing the first two chapters of a veil voyage and cancelling is an exploit and justifies raising the emissary speed of other voyages. I might be convinced that some minor balancing could occur here. But I'd have to stress that I think it'd be minor...if at all...I'd still have to be convinced. My reasoning below:

    1. At the end of the day, emissary rank means almost nothing. It is a means to an end...the gold and reputation multiplier. The flag itself, even when successfully lowered, is minimal rep and gold.

So no matter how you get to grade 5, that only really means something if you get an athena chest. Trinket are all well and good, but again, not nearly the gold or rep of a single athena chest....or an ashen athena chest. So cancelling and voting up a veil voyage may get you to grade 5 without the "risk" of the tornado, but it doesn't get you the one piece of loot that makes the grade 5 emissary actually worth it. You'd be better off just pushing through and finishing the voyage.

If you are solo, the first two chapters carry a risk of your ship being spotted and set upon with a veil voyage. Shipwrecks have to be explored. Unless you've memorized every art item on every island, Sudd's bad clue maps take time. Belle's combat takes time. These are riskier solo than a Thieves Haven run in most cases. I'd argue that a solo looking for a lower risk Grade 5 should do a Thieves Haven then their non-veil athena voyage instead of looping the first two chapters of a veil voyage. TH far enough south that keeping an eye on the horizon north is easier and lower risk than diving even a single shipwreck.

And if you are in a crew, see above about just finishing the veil voyage. Or speedrunning a TH voyage. Leave someone on TH while the rest of the crew sails to the outlying islands and will get you that bump that an athena voyage gets you to 5.

Note that I'm not discouraging veil voyages. I think they are a great addition. And for me and my crew, haved made TH and traditional athena's almost obsolete including emissary quests. But different people have different risk tolerances or find the x-maps and skellie fights more fun...sure, they are still there for you. I'm only saying that the options, whether its doing the first 2 chapters of a veil voyage, or doing a TH run, or "other" provides any athena leveller options to tailor the voyages to their playstyle and time available. I question any need to rebalance emissary rank speed given those factors. Nothing has been introduced that is game breaking in that regard.

Do what you want. Play how you want. But easier grade 5's aren't needed and nobody is entitled to an easy grade 5. The risk/reward needs to be there. Try levelling up old-school like some of us did and then complain about only increasing half a level. That last level from PL9 to PL10 was real. You darn kids are getting off easy.

    Now get off my lawn!

  • The standard athena quest just needs overhauled, but if you want em grade 5, i would recommend either a veil, or an athenas run of thieves haven, those have more than just a few small pieces of athena loot to help boost that flag.

  • With how easy those voyages are, What athena is (endgame), I don't really want to increase it to much.
I mean...If you sink a Skeleton Ship, kill a Kraken or Meg in the process of your voyage you will earn Grade 5 (Ive done this)
Two Skeleton Ships(sloops) + normal AF voyage and by the end I was grade 5.

  • I haven’t read the comments so i will probably not say anything new but normal Athena voyage are not the best right now for both emissary flag level and loot. Now if you just want to level 5 your flag and don’t want to do the veil or the thieves haven run because its too high profil and dont want to risk it, i would still recommend to do just the first 2 chapters of the veil. it is fast, decent loots and can get you to lvl 3-4 fairly quick. After that, if you don’t want to risk the tornado just cancel the voyage and go back to doing Roar Athena voyage.

  • @lem0n-curry the problem with the Veil quest is that you and people waiting for you to get done so they can attack and sink you for the loot. I’ve done back to back veil only to be sunk by a more experienced crew. In the devil’s roar, barely a few pirates actually venture there.

Aye, it's risk / reward. You have to pay more attention when you do something that more crews might notice.

  • @lem0n-curry I have to pay attention but in the heat of that battle, basically it’s all hands on deck. I play on a sloop crew, go figure, especially I’m the one below deck hammering and bucketing and my other crew is steering and firing cannons.

When we duo, one is mainly at the helm and the other is mainly firing & patching. The small fortresses only take at most one circle and the large one perhaps 2 ? Just make sure to stay out of the way of the ghost ships.
When course is set and relatively safe, helmsman can repair or bucket.
