Fan-made loading screens and custom title pages

  • Ahoy! I've got 2 things I'd like to present, neither of which absolutely overhaul the gameplay (you know who you are, not every suggestion has to be game changing...) but are something smaller that the first one would benefit the community, and the second one is more of a personal thing.

Recently, someone made a little video showcasing some of their favourite SoTshot's and compiled them into a recreation of the loading screens we have seen (and for the Xbox users, forced to see for about 2 minutes every session) for years before. I propose that this idea is implemented into the game and we see the SoTshot winning shots presented on the loading screen.

Now, I understand that the current "cinematic" approach to the loading screens is supposed to give the players a look at what they're about to experience, but that's what they're about to experience, so lets show them something else so what they experience is totally new and unspoiled, but at the same time, give showcase to those who deserve it. Sure some sails and a title is nice, but just imagine loading up the game and seeing your pirate right there on the loading screen. Another pirate in my retweet of the video also commented that they could also showcase fanart, which would be absolutely legendary to see as well.

The video to that video (and my retweet where I initially show my interest for this being a feature) can be found here, on Twitter

Now for the custom title pages. Pretty simple idea; mix and match the music and background images from all past updates to display as your current title page.
I went back and had a look at some of the past title screens and couldn't help but miss the ominous music of the Ashen Winds title page, and the gloomy look of the Shrouded Spoils title page... I'd love to be able to combine the two to have my own "custom" title page.

Constructive feedback welcomed, or just general thoughts or ideas to expand on either of these.

  • Nothing really to oppose here in my view.

If they have the resources, go for it

Makes me think of the early internet days when customizing anything was a big deal and everyone wanted to have something they viewed as cool. Seems fine to me

  • Love this idea as it helps bridge the gap between the game and the online communities & contests!
