I propose that Liars Dice would only be an in-game party game. No money mentioned or involved - only a fun mini-game to pass the time. You sit at a table and you have dice objects and a cup to hide them under. No Liars Dice interface - only dice and cups and the communication between players ... and maybe a rule book.
Liars Dice is a back and forth party game where players have the same number of dice hidden under a cup or tankard- The starting player calls their hand. The next player may either call a higher-ranking hand or call the previous player's bluff. If the revealer lied about their hand then they remove one die, and if the accuser was wrong they would remove one die. The last player with dice in their cup wins.
Some of us might get a little excited like good pirates often do and gambling gold could be a good way to raise stakes in your game.
I know what some of you are thinking - "gambling gold??? That's going way too far. Rare would never add such a feature in fear of their game being banned in some countries!"
I think the only way we can have gold on the line playing Liars dice is if Rare added a feature to allow players to drop gold pouches of whatever amount they want - the same pouches you find when defeating skeletons or phantoms. Droppable gold pouches can open the door for many new social interactions. Player-driven trading, gambling, and dueling.
Sea of Thieves has always been Tools, not Rules. If players were able to make droppable gold pouches, Everything would be tangible and separate. It keeps the gold separated from the party game to avoid being designed as a gambling game. you can play a party game and If some players choose to drop gold pouches- then that’s that. As long as the two are separated then there’s a possibility to not have to raise the ESRB rating.
Maybe you can add ways to cheat like moving your cup around to re-roll or slipping in a discarded die when a player isn't paying attention. You can allow the player to get up and sit down at the game table as they wish, creating an opportunity to steal the entire pot or kill your opponent.
If you are not fun to play with, you'll notice less and less dice players.
In the future, if players ever have the power to drop gold pouches or if you can pick up and move gold pouches from enemy drops- Liars dice deserves to be included next to it.
What do you think?
