Suggestion Regarding the Ship Flag Box

  • Currently when you open the Ship Flag Box you are presented with 2 categories: Flags & Alliances. The first of which is automatically presented to the player. I suggest that instead you are first shown two options: Cosmetic and Non-Cosmetic. Additionally, I think that the original 'Reaper' Flag, the Flag of the Reaper's Mark, should move to the Non-Cosmetic section joining the Alliance flag considering that it has an affect on gameplay. This would help to lower the times when a new player accidentally puts it up without understanding what it does. Perhaps, the game could have some smart UI with this change as well whereby the non-cosmetic option becomes the first option shown if there is another crew with the offer alliance flag up.

  • @captain-corobo Don't you think that will cause more confusion? I mean if a new player is trying to join an alliance and instead uses the red "Reapers Mark" flag, the consequences will be disastrous.

  • @metal-ravage lol they should definitely do this

  • Or, they change nothing... and people need to read the actual descriptions of the flags before hoisting them.

They will learn... fast, if they choose the wrong one. And by making mistakes you remember the lessons learnt better.

  • @captain-corobo So the issue you really want to address in new people putting up the reaper mark without knowing it puts you on the map. That could be solved easily like perhaps a warning when you equip the flag? Oh wait, that's exactly what's already in the game!

  • @krakob No, the issue I want to address is that there are 2 flags in the game that actually do something, but one of them is buried in the same menu as dozens of others that don't do anything instead of being shown together with the only other game affecting flag.

  • @captain-corobo I agree your suggestion makes sense logically.

  • @metal-ravage If this change were applied and someone was looking at an updated flag box in the non-cosmetic section where the only two options are join alliance and the flag of the reaper's mark and they still were confused about which one to choose, then there is nothing that could be done to help them.

  • Im waiting to be able to Fly both a Flag and alliance flag...together.

  • @ghostfire1981 Like 99% of the descriptions of not just flags, but all items in this game is meaningless fluff/lore text that players quickly learn to ignore. Having one of them have an actually important description, and still grouping it with the dozens of cosmetic only options is just bad design.

  • @captain-corobo you’re not wrong but I can see how most people would see this as a non issue (myself included). I certainly wouldn’t have an issue with the doing as you suggest. It’s a sensible suggestion, just not one many will care about.

  • @burnbacon You already can do this. Once you are in an alliance you can safely change from using the offer alliance flag to whatever you want.

    I'm tired of this

Rare may have had good intentions making proper descriptions for people to read, but the average casual gamer's intelligence has dwindled pretty badly over time, and we can't treat that as if it's not an epidemic.

The average, common Game Pass player is not going to be smart enough to look through menus, read descriptions, or even visit this website and check out the pirate academy. Call it their loss, I call it terrible game design in a game that has multiple mechanics that are not easy to understand at a glance, especially (when in the case of the Reaper's Mark) if the intended side effect of an action isn't actually present or consistent.

I'll take intrusive windows you have to press a button to proceed along if it means players actually know what they're doing instead of getting roped into something they're not prepared for, call foul, and then get told "lol that's just the game." That is one facet that I genuinely believe is poorly executed in this game.

  • @captain-corobo i kinda like it how it is now, they got to learn and if not that learn to the text read
but yes you kinda dont have time to load alliance should me near the first options.
