Sea of Thieves using Intel GPU and not Nvidia GPU

  • I recently bought a new laptop. It has integrated intel graphics and an Nvidia 1650.

Yes, I have all my drivers updated.
Yes I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Nvidia 1650 and it's drivers.
Yes I have gone into my Nvidia control panel and windows settings and set the preference for my entire computer to use the dedicated 1650 as well as specifically set it for sea of thieves (still doesn't work).

The problem I am running into is that the laptop uses the intel graphics when I am playing the game. However, it does not do this with any other game. I will launch even a game like Minecraft and get 200+ frames, but sea of thieves is running on the intel and I'm getting about 20 - 30 frames. I can't play like this, and I need help troubleshooting the problem because it is specific to Sea of Thieves it seems.

Also, whenever I launch the game, I get an error that says "video driver crashed and was reset! Make sure your video drivers are up to date." Then when I relaunch the game, it doesn't have that message and it runs on the intel. The problem is that THEY ARE up to date. I installed the latest version of the Nvidia 1650 GTX graphics from their website and it still doesn't work. Can someone please help?

  • When I had something similar to this I went into Nvidia control panel and changed it to the GPU, saved it, restarted my pc and that seemed to work. If you haven't tried I would say uninstall the game and try to repeat after a fresh installation but other than that I have no other recommendations, sorry.

  • @nebsma1ll1w You need to change the preference in Windows settings, not Nvidia Control Panel. From Windows settings, go to:

    • System

    • Display

    • Graphics Settings

    • Choose an App to Set Preference (add Sea of Thieves executable)

    • Options

    • Set Performance to High Performance
