  • @barkingspider03 This feature is a must and should have been in SoT long time ago.
In a click of a button you can ruin years of progress to someone.

  • This sounds like it should be an Xbox Live and/or Steam function rather than a function of SoT - all games have save files, so it's more universal than what you are thinking.

In essence, stop thinking small; think big. 😉

Except all player data is stored on a server, not locally. XBox and Steam have no access.

Can I ask why you would need this feature?

I can understand that you don’t want to loose your pirate but who would access your account and delete your pirate? There are security features on Xbox that can require a password and computers can set up a password. If you don’t trust people then don’t give them your password.

  • @BarkingSpider03 - @CoffeeLight5545 has a very valid point. Even the Xbox Live Enforcement team has stated in the past that the protection of your account is your responsibility. In that light, I have known players who have been banned for allegedly violating the Xbox Live Terms of Use, and claimed that "it was someone else!" Guess what? Their account was still banned because that's not considered a valid excuse. The tools are already there to take steps to protect your account (and therefore your saves), and if you fail to utilize them, then you have nobody but yourself to blame.

It sounds harsh, I know, but to ask these services to do even more after the fact would just largely be tedious and/or redundant.

  • @coffeelight5545 Your kid, small brother or someone who hacked your account can do that very easily, many mmo games lets you lock your character.
I dont see how another layer of defence would hurt anyone?
There is just nothing to counter this, locking your character can do good in some cases and there is no single reason why not to do that.

  • @faceyourdemon

How can a little kid hack your account without your password?

If you use the same password for everything then they may be able to guess your password. I can set my account so I must use my password each time. I can also change my password if my account is compromised.

I can understand why people would request this feature but it already exists.

  • @coffeelight5545

someone that has access to your xbox turns it on, gets on sea of thieves and deletes the character or changes character appearance.

Sometime of verification before this happens would be nice.

  • Good idea, even if it won't be used 99% of the time it's still nice to know that your pirate is safe.

  • @coffeelight5545 There would be no need of any "hacking". It's as simple turning on a device with the account saved and being able to jump right into the game.

I'm not sure why you're trying so hard to argue against a basic security feature that would prevent the loss of every hour the game owner as put into it.

Not arguing against it; just explaining why it isn't necessary.

  • @porkflaps I’m not arguing my point. I’m just explaining that there are already security features in place

@mad-jim-rogers The people who have access to my Xbox account are people I trust. If there was someone who I lived with that I didn’t trust then I would lock down my Xbox. I agree that extra security is already a good idea but I just don’t see Rare investing time into a feature that already exists.

It may be a good idea for Rare to save pirate profiles for a year just in case of accident deleting of your pirates so at least they can’t recover it in case of cloud corruption and or system corruption

  • For those on consoles, you can always go into your account settings on the Xbox, select ‘Sign-in, security & passkey’ and set up a personal passkey that stops people from using your account. Then they can’t do anything to your games including your pirate and Rare doesn’t have to get into the “I can’t remember my pirate password” issues.

  • @ghostpaw But the password is for deleting not for logging in, many mmo games does that.
If someone dosent feel good with his character for the worth of a Sneakers bar they can buy an appearance potion.

I can imagine a kid ruins his father progress not on purpose or a rare bug that happened to me once that i randomly logged into someone's else account.
I just left the game and turned it on and it went back to my character but i couldve ruin the dudes progress, ive seen it in Fallout 76 too and other games.

  • @faceyourdemon I was not saying not to implement the idea. I was offering a possible solution for console players in the likely possibility that Rare does not go for this anytime soon (if ever).

  • Sometimes I play the game and go AFK. With children in the house, I would not mind having this require some sort of authorization.

not everyone is you. other people have different situations.

  • Very surprised to see such backlash to a harmless feature that literally only has positives.

  • @mferr11 Me too, what are we even arguing about?
Its such a dumb argument with no way to counter it.

  • @barkingspider03

Hacking in the way you described, I feel like hackers could find a way around the security feature that you are requesting. I feel like Rare should keep a backup save of everyone’s pirate profile who are currently active on the sea of thieves. If hackers can delete our pirates then at least Rare can restore our pirates

I think we both know what the real reason is that this entire "my brother/friend was it" and "I got hacked" talk is futile.
Those phrases are the usual, trite lies of another one who in fact just got caught cheating.

If you're genuinely a victim of account hijacking etc. then it's possible to track it back to the point (not speaking for XBOX specifically though) where it becomes apparent that foreign access was indeed there and support helps you to get access to your account again.

Sure, in the same household, things can get problematic of course and impossible for the support to validate the player's claims (in the theoretical case he's indeed innocent), which then again goes hand in hand with what you posted.
Anyways, if that player claims that someone else was in his account just for cheating or his brother was it, chances are nonetheless high that he's straight lieing to you and in fact used the cheats all by himself.
I mean people are just like that. They'd insist and swear on the grave of their non-existant sister just to get away with it.
