Server merge notification

  • Hey, not sure if this has been suggested before, I can't seem to find anything but I think it would be really useful to know if a server has been merged into yours.

Last night we were on the final part of an athena quest on a server with no reapers and most ships far away from us, we grabbed the chest and headed back to our ship, looking on the map to where to take all our loot back to when all of a sudden we see a lvl 5 reaper coming down on us fast. Not having enough time to really escape, they cut us off and after a short chase, a kraken and a short battle, we were done for. After a quick chat with them while we sank, they confirmed they had server merged into us, so headed straight for us when they joined.

From what I understand the server being merged into has no notification that more ships have just appeared, however the people merging in of course know, and instantly look for new targets meaning they have an advatage. Most pirates know the lay of the land and sea after playing on a server for a few hours, so when it changes so suddenly the advatange is definately on the joining ships.

Any thoughts or should I just get better at the game? :D

  • There’s normally a message saying

The world is changing, new dangers there be
Between boundless skies and rolling sea
On rolling waves with sails unfulfilled
Ships come to plunder this new world

Although servers merges are normally very buggy and if ur pings to high the message doesn’t even come through

  • Reaper 5 ships have been invisible on the map at some point after a server merge.

I have seen them in the map after a server merge. Look again no reapers emissary. Go back about my business and low and behold they are rolling up on our ship.

  • @doomscorp I'm assuming that a server merge is Server A merging into server B. So everyone on Server A sees a message but people on Server B don't? Unless its meant to be a mutual server merge where everyone should see the message? If so we definatly did not see a message last night.

The way it play out is that the two servers simultaneously merge into each other thus creating a bigger better new one. Everyone sees this message unless it bugs which should not happen.

  • @dunceantix servers don't merge into yours...players merge from one server to another...why should you get a message when another ship is merging onto the server you are?

This is not what he asked...he wants a message when another ship merges onto the server you are...so complete nonsense

  • @illbushido305 no it happens to both servers

    Basically what I said

  • If the intended functionality is that both sets of server players should see that message, then it must have been a bug of some sorts that caused us not to in this case. :)

  • @doomscorp Not a warning WHEN IT HAPPENS. That not what the word "warning" means. A warning BEFORE you lose the loot you spent 3 hours winning and piling on the beach would be ideal

This issue is literally why I haven't played since August. I simply refuse to believe this is a problem that doesn't have a solution

  • @dunceantix I’ll be honest I love this seemingly new system where you can silent merge onto servers. It just means everyone should be checking their maps more often. Yes it gives a level 5 reaper a small stealth window, but it’s the same for reapers, who may not realise an emissary has silently merged onto their server. It gives them a chance as well.
Please don’t go back to the old way, Rare. This keeps servers a little more spicy. And doesn’t disrupt the flow as often.

  • @doomscorp they changed it a couple of updates ago. I like the new way personally

  • Yup it's a silent merge, it's been happening for months now. The Rare knights will tell you that it's just cos of your ping but streamers have tested it and confirmed people merge into our servers without it notifying us.

Why they done it, God knows probably to make it seem seamless so people can't be like 'servers are dead' giving the illusion that they is people playing when in reality that ship just bounced onto your server cos the last server was just s dead.

  • Ahoy maties!
