Alliance Betrayal!

  • The weakest most pathetic pirates are the ones that betray alliances. The ultimate low blow, why have alliances in the first place if others can use other crews in alliance to farm loot, the betray them before turning in the loot? I am beyond upset that this is doable.
I was in an alliance with another sloop, we completed FOTD back to back, once we gathered up all the loot they decided to mega keg my sloop, take all the loot then leave the alliance before selling anything. What's is the point of an alliance if they can use other players like this? It is wrong. I am all for PvP but an alliance should mean alliance.
Also because of how the alliance is set up it allows for players to abuse the title glitch of legendary thief. Players pick up and sell it even though they worked together. They didn't steal nothing.
I just would like to see alliances be alliances!
And legendary thief's to actually be earned thief's!

  • @matlasm wait....so you had all your treasure stolen from you....in a pirate game....by someone who pretended to be your friend...in a pirate game.....

The whole alliance system is based on the principle that anyone within that alliance can turn at any point, more risk, more reward. It has never been advertised as a 'Friendly' mode.

    Watch your back.

  • Never trust anyone fully except your crew. Alliances are meant to be shakey. Also never let others on your boat. Ever.

  • and for hat we have alliances then?the developers never played their game legit^^it just makes the game feeling toxic and not build your own adventure....did yesterday solo athene runs joined a sloop on thieves that where already in an alliance they waited till i hit grade 5 just to keg me ? i changed the server thought never again alliances but im so stupid joined the next sloop on thieves haven we had a nice chat we tocuhed our legendary items to grade up faster :D....i saw one of them running away with my meg keg a lightning strike hit him^^....it ended in a battle and guess who got the spawning skelliship ,me.....onue guy boarded me set my ship on fire i killed him but the skelliship took my mast down good rng job rare well balanced)i lost 5 hours. played for nothing but it so fun right build your own adventure.....

  • Almost sounds those pirate acted like pirates.

  • @MatlasM It will make sense if you stop looking at Alliances the same way concept of teams is implemented in another games.
If Alliances were to work that way (by removing/penalizing friendly fire between two crews), instead of income bonus for being in an Alliance, the rewards would actually have to be decresed. After all in such design you effectively give each participating crew an advantage of not having to worry about one or more crews, thus making money easier.
Now the reason that instead of income penalty you get 50% extra is because Alliances are made to introduce even greater risk to what you're doing. It's by design that with no alliance nobody knows what you're doing, but as soon as you put that love flag on you get mutual GPS and income transparency which without disabling friendly fire is a big gamble.

To sum up, in SoT teaming up is made into yet another way to ask for trouble and the design is consistent in rewarding player for taking on risks. After all nothing stops you going totally opposite way and spending time fishing in the corner of the map.

  • @scallywagmango true solid point man. But friendly alliances also abuse the system to get legendary thief status even though they didn't steal anything. For example two friendly sloops sail out on Athena then swap chest of legends at the end to get the title even though they didn't steal it, technically. I wish alliance meant a stronger bond, no friendly fire and no being able to swap chest of legends for thief title. We should give them the title of legendary chest swappers.

  • Alliances can be fun.
But you must always expect betrayal.
I am happy to be in an alliance at any time. But if my ally attempts to board my ship or sails towards me, I will always open fire.
    Once burnt, etc etc..

After all, why have half the loot when you could have it all!!
A temptation too much for many. 🤗

  • @diabeuzpiekla solid reply man! When fleets members are off doing there own thing, the ability to farm massive loot is great.
My only two concerns regarding alliance is when alliance members are doing quest/fort/etc together at the same time. Backstabbing as well as friendly fire accidents are annoying. Temporary crew merging for certain tasks would be cool. And my 2nd concern is about the lazy legendary thief title glitch. I'm sure all pvp try hards would agree with me on this. Where 2 alliance friends swap chest of legends to both get the title even though it wasn't an actual heist.
Guess I gotta be a lot less trusting of these greed, sneaky pirates lol.

  • @coziermass lol almost. I guess sometimes you get it and sometimes you get got.
Alliance is dumb most the time.
Making thief's pretending to be friends.
And friends pretending to be thief's.
The legendary thief title glitch has many crews swapping chests just for the title

  • @scallywagmango for sure man. Sometimes I meet some cool ppl that work together but most are selfish and looking to backstab. I love pvp but breaking alliance is breaking your word. That's why I like watching pace so much he doesn't front what his doing. Coming at people with a pure pvp intention.

  • @iceman-d18 true friendly mode was never advertised. When people lie and break there word it just sucks. No one likes a backstabber. I enjoy the pvp acspect of the game, as well as team work. Low blows just seem like a cheap shot, a lazy way to rank up.

  • @weedstar-deluxe I feel for ya man. Betayal, backstabbing, is such a pathetic blow. Such a lazy selfish way to rank up. Pvp is dope but when you get backstabbed it feels like you didn't even get a fair fight.
The chest swapping has watered down the legendary thief title a lot. Also I wish they could incorporate a crew merger mechanic for certain forts, voyages, etc... crew merger so backstabbing is avoided, and maybe even alliance will temporary turn off friendly fire, which happens a lot on forts by accident. You and another alliance member hacking away at some Skelly next thing you know both are dead cuz friendly fire. Lol

  • @matlasm I get why you feel it's a cheap shot. But it's the reason I avoid Alliances. You can't trust people and whilst there is a bit of an incentive (by rewarding you for treasure that you didn't earn) the risk is too great.

  • Alliance doesn't mean you are friends. You just combine forces for benefits. It's up to the pirates to decide what to do with it. It's also your responsibility to be careful and not trust others just because you fly the same flag.

This is true for any open world game where you can team up with others.

Anyway, don't call others weak and pathetic just because you thought it was a good idea to trust a pirate.

  • @matlasm I agree with the cheesing of the legendary thief title, it is cheap and those who have done it know deep down that they are pathetic, however people would still be able to do this even if they wasn't in an alliance. They just wouldn't get that extra 50% of the other chest. I'm not sure how Rare can stop this sort of thing being done to be honest.
