Allow us to bury anything

  • We can already dig, so let us press a button when holding out any item to bury that item.
This will help us hide treasure and skeleton keys from other player trying steal our stuff.
Also this is how pirate maps were made so pirates can hide treasure from other pirates, so it makes sense lore wise.

  • @redeemereric it ain't your stuff until its coin in your pocket

until that its fair game for all pirates to hunt

  • If they did this, it would have to create a personal treasure map at the same time. Killing the pirate would reveal the treasure map, which could be picked up and read.

  • @captain-arcanic that would be awesome, perhaps players would be able to choose to create a map at a table in the boat if they can't remember the location and the map is an item now.

  • In my opinion this game doesn't really support the idea of burying treasure. What I mean is that its just impractical considering how easy it is to turn loot in. There is plenty of outposts, so to bury standard loot serves no benefit when you could just cash it out right away. Even if an outpost is occupied one could just sail on to another one without players.

We also need to factor in the whole stealing gameplay, while it isn't fun getting loot stolen, it is in the spirit of things. Creating a system that stops stealing or prevents it easily just doesn't fit the the game theme.

There is also another part to the impracticality of it. This game already has my places one can hide loot without actually burying it. There is plenty of bushes, rocks, and other large obstacles that work perfectly fine to make loot hidden.

Server merges also play a role in causing issues. You have buried loot that would normally not carry over due to the merging of servers. This is just a mess that would prevent a system of burying treasure.

My point is more they would HAVE to have a map. Otherwise fort keys would constantly be buried and lost as their "owners" got spawn camped until they quit.

  • @nabberwar Great points, this would mostly be used for keys for skull forts most likely and not single items, but the players could still have that choice.

I think if the player had to create a treasure map, the items would follow them where they go. Unless they log out and then the items would resurface and then despawn after a while.
