Can we get a PvE only mode already?

  • I feel like it’s only reasonable to ask for a PvE only mode considering the arena’s inclusion as a full PvP game mode.

Some players want to play with their kids or just with someone new to the game and don’t want to have to stress about enemy player ships harassing them with a numerical advantage, and that to me seems completely understandable.

I have plenty of friends who choose not to play because of the PvP nature of the game, people would flock to the game like crazy and buy tons of ancient coins if a PvE mode was introduced.

Even if you made, say, 10% of the gold you normally would and skeleton ship (krakens and megalodons) spawned more frequently it’d still be worthwhile for a private session.
Please Rare, let us play the game in zen mode once in a while!

  • This has already been requested several times.

Its been a firm no every time.

    Perhaps try Atlas.

  • @k1ngdominique Arena isn't full PvP game mode.

  • @DaringClarky If it’s been suggested several times and will continue to be suggested then why not consider it further
@avecrux I hardly count the elusive ancient skelly as qualification for PvE

  • If a PVE only experience is what you’re looking for, Sea of Thieves just isn’t the game for you. No matter how many times it gets requested, it will never, ever come. With all due respect, either learn to defend yourself or stop playing the game mate.

  • No, becouse it isn't needed.
If you want to play worry free pirate game then go and play Sid Meier's Pirates.
    Now shoo.

  • You’re not to making any actual arguments as to why it shouldn’t exist, just blindly saying “it won’t so shut up about it”. Well I say it can and should, and it’s not like it’s for my own benefit or anything just in Rare’s self interest.
I’m PL (although I guess that’s not so impressive anymore), you don’t get there without learning to defend yourself, but still this mode would be a fun inclusion.

  • @k1ngdominique a PvE only mode would split the community. Whilst I appreciate some people want to play for the PvE elements, some people want to play for the PvP elements so why should they have less of an oppurtunity to do so?

The Arena isn't a 'PvP Mode' it's more of a 'Get to the action quicker mode'.

  • @Iceman-D18 How is to not a PvP mode? Literally all you do is fight other crews for chests. No skellies involved, no krakens or megs whatsoever.

And I think it’s fair to have the standard adventure mode be on an opt-in basis, you’d still get plenty of people wanting to grind with the added risk, for more rewards.

  • Yaaaaaaaaawn

Another pointless PvE thread that needs locked @Deckhands

  • @k1ngdominique It's not a 'PvP mode' because the whole game is PvPvE. There can't be a seperate mode for PvP when the whole game is based on PvPvE. It's like saying that a racing game with a mode for shorter races has a 'Race Mode'.

But you're missing the point, you're trying to change the game so it suits the PvE players. How is that fair to the PvP players? Those who want to rank up Reaper Faction are already being punished because as soon as most people see a Reaper on a map, they swap servers.

By having a PvE/Passive option it means that a server slot is being taken up by someone who isn't playing the game how it was designed. How is that fair to the other players?

I get it, I really do because there is nothing worse than having your treasure stolen, but I see it as a failure on my part. I'm more of a PvE player, I don't actively go hunting players - I've never tried ranking Reaper, but I understand that it's part of the game. If I get attacked and lose my treasure, then I've done something wrong - be it not checking the horizon, spending too much time trying to solve a riddle, not parking my ship in a more secure location. I learn from it and move on!

The reason its not considered further is because the people asking for it are a minority.

It goes against the vision of the gane being a shared world.

Essentially it would allow you to farm loot in relative safety without pirate player attack... Which defeats the entire point of the game.

This is why it wont ever work unless there is zero progression.

  • @daringclarky Even zero progression would still be fun, but I was suggesting as an alternative that an abundance of skelly ships would suffice as a replacement to player ships.

Ever notice how when you start the game it now states “sailing the sea with all players”? This leads me to believe they’re setting the framework for a more private session as that would be the only alternative I could think of.

I believe private servers potentially would allow you to sail the seas yourself if it lets us create our own content and isnt just a tool for rare to use.

This was we could make awesome stuff like ship races, a combat training mode where you are in an endless fleet battle etc etc and rare could showcase trending servers each week kinda like how bases work in no mans sky or how servers are promoted in Rec Room VR.

Totally seperate from main game, but player created content.
This would work, in all honesty id be surprised if it doesnt come because it will basically add a lot more than just piracy.

However it must remain totally seperate so the original games stay active.

Private servers hopefully...It would be kinda like a debug mode or level creator. Where you can play with basic pre made scripts to make npcs spawn in or act differently.
This could tick all the boxes for everyone potentially. Let the creative members of the community run wild.

Only concern though is, would we ever want to play adventure mode again with all this choice?

Which is why i think perhaps rare will just make private servers as a thing they host and not us players. Hope im wrong though.

  • @k1ngdominique ohh...wow...another one...again...🤦🏻‍♂️

Private servers will eventually come, but no PvE servers ever...watch this video:

There are 2 different messages, sailing with all players and sailing with XBox players...that's the opt out info

  • @schwammlgott great video, as long as you can still do things like voyages or tall tales for 0 progression I’m down for private servers.

  • @k1ngdominique sure, if you like it this way...why not
But for me the best part of the game is the thrill when another ship is in sight...does it stay? Does it come towards me? Friendly or not? I lost much stuff, but gold is not really rare in this game, so who cares?

  • I just find it ruins the adventure when you get chased halfway across the map and ultimately sink when you play with noobs. I already have all the customizations anyway, what do I care about progression? As I said I just want zen mode. I’ll play the adventure mode when they add new stuff to buy and I’m on a crew I can trust. Private servers seem like good news.

  • i think PvP is essential for most of the atmosphere of the game. the title of the game says it. however i see what you mean as everything would be way more accessible for people who like playing solo.

I’m PL (although I guess that’s not so impressive anymore), you don’t get there without learning to defend yourself, but still this mode would be a fun inclusion.

The reason is it takes away the uncertainity about other players.
Rare wants to have all sorts of players in the Sea of Thieves respect and interact with each other.
If you add a PvE Mode the Advenute mode will miss friendly and passive players and turn it into every player is hostile.
We dont want that, i am friendly to this ship and 2 minutes later i try to sink another. I play instruments with you this time and tomorrow i maybe kill and sink you.
I play pirate and today its this and tomorrow the other around.
We all have to deal with it.
If you split it up, then this uncertainty will be gone. You would know everybody is hostile.

And a PvE Mode needs a lot of tweaking and a different client.
For example the FoTD wouldn't be enableable because you need the PVP flame.
The Reaper Flag needs to be removed and the tied commendations too.
The new emissary system need to be reworked or completely removed.
Commendations like stolen Athena wont be possible.
A PvE Mode would only work as kind of SP/ 4 Coop mode with no other Ships involved, because there would be many ways to really grief other players.
block ship stations like wheel, anchor, sails...
steal loot and have no possibilitie to get it back, ram ships while not dying/ sinking?
Al lot of thinks need to be considered and in the end you have to develop 2 different games.
therefore many say no to this.

  • @k1ngdominique

    No. A thousand times, no.

    • Sea of Thieves is a shared world PvEvP game, where PvP is imperative to how the game works - it was never represented to you as peaceful PvE (what did you expect?)

    • The possibility of PvP being able to happen at any possible time is what makes each session interesting and unpredictable. To remove this would ruin that.

    • PvE servers would split the player base and ruin the Shared World. Players would start to categorize themselves into PvE and PvP, ultimately that would drastically reduce the player variety in each game type, and player encounters would just unfold the same way every time based on the server you’re in.

So no, the game does not need PvE servers and would in fact suffer from that addition.

PvP is a major component to the game, and Sea of Thieves really couldn’t be what it is if there was a version or server without PvP in it.

It’s especially tough to justify your request when the game was sold to you as a game where all Pirates are in one shared world, interacting with one another as they please - it was never sold to you as a PvE only experience.

Also, the existence of Arena does not justify any PvE mode. Not by any means.

Be sure to read this Tweet from the design director of Sea of Thieves

    Two things here:

    1. “I just find it ruins the adventure when you get chased halfway across the map and ultimately sink when you play with noobs.” Your problem was running then. Stay and fight. All these PvE suggestion posts have the same theme. “I want to be left alone and not chased for an hour.” Sorry but if your running you probably have something. Turn your ship and fire on them. Or hide your treasure on the island as they approach and go fight them on their ship.

2.”I just find it ruins the adventure when you get chased halfway across the map and ultimately sink when you play with noobs” that’s your problem also is playing with noobs. Get a crew together.

The game was designed to be a shared world. There’s plenty of games that offer a safe experience. This isn’t one of them.

  • @k1ngdominique I strongly second this idea. I've played this game for only a short while but the idea that it's a shared experience is what stops many people from continuing to play the game.

I've never once found a ship that didn't immediately attack me. There are no good merchant ships. The grand vision that some players would be cooperative is sunk.

I think it's quite reasonable to ask for a game where you aren't constantly under assault from griefers as well as all the ghost ships and sea monsters. I cannot get new players to stay with the game as they are turned away by the negative PvP aspect that never shuts off. You can't even spawn in port and stock up basic supplies without the threat of getting your ship sunk for absolutely no gains.

If people want to play with the PvP risk and be toxic then they can play together. Let everyone else who wants to enjoy the game for all the other great reasons experience it without being griefed out of the game.

  • @wandrecanada I'll ask the question I always ask when people bring up the term 'Griefing' or 'Toxic'....what is your definition of 'Griefing' or 'Toxic' Behaviour in SoT?

  • Im sure this has already been said more eloquently here in the replies already but to put it simply, PvE servers are never coming to the sea of thieves. It has however been mentioned that we may see "community sandbox servers" for content creators and things like that but in these servers, you would be forfeiting reputation and gold rewards altogether. The constant threat of PVP and losing all you have worked for is one of the most important and to me most entertaining part, of the sea of thieves. Yall keep saying you want PvE this PvE that but in reality, if nobody could ever sink you what would stop you from grinding out 90 FOtD in a row, maxing out your TC's and never touching sot again?

  • @k1ngdominique Hey @K1ngDominique I get what you are saying buddy but SoT is not a game where a PvE server is needed or designed for. A PvE server is for more like Ark or Atlas or a survival type of game.

  • Ahoy there,

Going to lock this thread as there are many other threads concerning this.
