PVE servers please

  • I have a couple points for why this just can not happen, and why it shouldn't.

Firstly, progression. It simply wouldn't be fair for some people to progress 'safely' when so many have already done it. Why should you get to do a Tall Tale with no threat to it's completion when others have already done it? Why do you get PL with no threat? You are solo, that is your choice, you can join a Discord and join/find a group just like anyone else. As an additional comment, if there was NO PROGRESSION on PvE, then it can work, but what on earth would be the point?

Second, existing game mechanics simply don't work in a way that supports it. So on a PvE server you pickup a Reapers chest and what, you just get it and never have to fight for it? You want to raise a level V emissary flag and then just have a zero risk 250% bonus while people on PvP servers have to weigh that choice? What about other behavior which doesn't involve actually killing you. I get on your ship and just start throwing your loot overboard, now you can't even kill me to protect yourself. Right now I throw a firebomb on MY ship and it's going to light MY ship on fire, nothing is safe. There would be so much work to determine what PvE even means and it's totally orthogonal to the systems Rare has built.

It's a sandbox game, if you don't like the conditions of the sandbox you need to adjust - leave the server if you see reapers, find a group, go it solo and then accept that is an uphill battle.
Honestly, I go solo all the time and I just don't see the problem, if I don't want to fight, I just make them chase and don't fight. I also accept that if I go on an island for a long time my ship might not be there when I get back.

  • @meemeekyu
Multiplayer servers with invites would be cool and could already get away with most of the things you're saying by simply avoiding inviting unwanted people. But still if that couldn't be done and we would have to simply rely on public pve servers then:

    1. They would be invulnerable but it doesn't take a while to imagine that ships could also not be used by anyone outside of your crew thus voiding all you said, wheels and anchor or sails usage n etc. They could still ram you with their ship and all but tbh that's like 1% of the cases and they would still be creamed if you could have your private session or vote kick them from the session, or make ships also invulnerable to that.

    2. Loot could be unstealable once you've either digged it when on a voyage or just when it's put in the ship in other cases.
Or be simply shared between all players that were on the island, wreck, or simply area in the moment it was found when sold if you're afraid of fort campers, everyone would have his share of loot straight put into the ship (and unstealable from there as written above) in these rare cases. More thrilling for sure in the pvpve but not everyone cup of tea, i've just came up with this in 3 minutes, it can surely be done better if one could even just change the reward system since we're also talking about nerfing the payouts / experience, or capping them to a certain level, or simply making a character that can live only in the pve universe, or same character with separate progression, several things available, it's more a matter of taste in that matter, but doable and done already in several MP games.

    3. I could simply answer this with a lol, how do you know this? AFAIK they use microsoft azure data centers which host also a number of other games other than SoT, they just need to host a # of pve sessions just as they already are hosting a # of pvpve sessions which would strictly depend on the player population.

And lemme add a thought of mine since you added yours, this is not the first time i had to answer the wheel and anchor question (it has become a riddle itself tbh), and i don't see any constructive criticism myself from many others, and not only the ones who want pve but especially those who want the game to be pvpve only. The "i don't like it do something about it" criticism vs the pve is also true since i just had to answer 3 problems you came up with, and the objective itself is to not achieve anything since the status quo is ok for the forum enthusiasts. I get it but really stop asking me about the wheel thanks

@dubba-dubs there are a number of ways to nerf / change progression
and about the reaper/emissary they could simply remove that mechanic in pve to incentivize pvpve play lol, there could be a number of things exclusive to pvpve to make it even more exciting vs pve

See what i meant with not constructive criticism also from the pvpve lovers? Yea you have fun soloing in pvpve, there are people who don't, why boycott a game mode that would allow them to sail a bit anyways and explore the islands? Idk

  • Isn't the Alliance servers something like that? I mean, if you do alliances you become practically untouchable.

2 years later, i'm still waiting for a PVE server. I'm not playing all the time with others people. Sometimes, i just want to play alone, doing quests and looking for boss to kill for their skull. Just chilling you know.
And i CAN'T chill because everytime i try to, another boat is coming to kill me. I understand there is PVP on this game. But come on, you created the Arena for full PVP, can you think about players like me who refuse to play this game, but they want to, because they can't play alone ? I can't stay alive more than 1 hour, and i can't even finish one quest without being attacked and lose all my stuff.

Please make PVE servers so i can play the game. Thank you.

Have you tried using Discord to find some people to play with? Even if you can find another person to duo sloop it would probably help you out. There are lots of great people who would be willing to help you get your quests done. I'd recommend avoiding open crews cause too many people join those just to harass others.

Also, as someone who just does PvP really Arena isn't really what we are looking for. It's okay but honestly they need to remove the chest(s) completely or give us just a straight up deathmatch mode. That's why so many PvP players don't really go for it. Plus it's just fun being in Adventure and meeting people doing random stuff. There are plenty of times I've helped someone instead of sinking them cause they were just doing a tale or were new and had no clue what they were doing and you don't get that in Arena.

  • These threads never got old. - Can people just give up :P

You knew what kind of game you bought!

  • @va ca-hombre im with u on that long as adventure mode is still good then im a happy pirate i love pvp and pve in this game its all so much fun

  • @brudorow

PvE servers are not part of their vision for this game and would ruin the unpredictable dynamic of the shared world that they have worked so hard to build.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. And that's Sea of Thieves. I'm sorry that some other player prevented you from buying that jacket you wanted sooner. You still have full access to all game mechanics and all you lost was progression towards some cosmetics.

PvE servers should not and most likely will not ever happen.

  • Two years later and the product you bought is still holding true to the vision had for it way back when you purchased it. That's a quality product right there. I do hope you can come to enjoy it for what it is instead of wishing to make it easier and private for yourself.

  • @nabberwar said in PVE servers please:

You would think after waiting two years you would have gotten the hint.

While I dont agree with PVE servers I must say most of us waited an ungodly time for opt out. Although it was worth the wait.

  • @gutterangel said in PVE servers please:

still holding true to the vision had for it way back when you purchased it.

    Except for AI ships.

    And opt-out.

  • @COW MAN. :) While you are correct on that, I do believe they quickly backtracked the no AI ships statement. Everyone knew they needed to.

I can only speculate on why they changed their minds and implemented the opt out, and do believe the ramifications of that are why we are going to Steam to give PC players a better experience now than what they've been getting.

I think the Maiden Voyage is their answer to a pve only experience and that's as far as that will ever go.

I think the Maiden Voyage is their answer to a pve only experience and that's as far as that will ever go.

Eh, I didn't think I'd ever see a revive mechanic in SoT, but here we are.

One thing I've learned from this comedy of errors called life, is that you never say 'never'.

  • @ghost-of-rhyza how can u play pirate if you can't attack anyone? it is a pirate game after all.

  • @machaca22 I've spent nearly a year getting to PL solo, doing exactly that. Simply because it's a pirate game, does not mean I have to act like one. I enjoy the game. No other game out there provides what this game does, from the sailing, to the pve encounters, to even the silly riddles. That's what I enjoy doing. After getting home from work, it really is relaxing just getting into my sloop and sailing.

I'm not against the PvP section of the game. I simply don't see why there's a general freak out if PvE servers were added. Players, and devs, saying it's against the 'spirit' of the game just seems to weird to me. It's a game. It can be made into whatever, and serve a wide range of tastes. Who exactly would it hurt if there was a strictly PvE option?

There are no 'buffs,' or better gear, to be had with gold and rep. Just cosmetics. Which is why I scratch my head at the last few threads about alliance servers 'ruining' emissary grind. So, what would PvE servers do except give options? Those that want to PvP, would have that option. Those that don't, would have the other.

  • Its a pirate game and theres gonna be pirates

  • @brudorow You won't be "playing the game" if you go into a PvE server. It basically wipes out half of the game mechanics. They will NEVER add PvE servers, but, they might add private servers for the soul reason of cinematic recording. So if you ever want to sail around and chill out, you can do it there.

  • Exactly it would break the core of the game. Keep dreaming about PVE its not gunna happen. Private servers is not the same thing as PVE servers and these private servers are 7 month old discussion. These servers might even only be for event organisers. You guys wont get a easy grind server.

  • @synysterbullett a dit dans PVE servers please :

@brudorow It isn't fair that you could go to a PVE server and get the same loot for the same value as a PVP server. You have little to no risks when there are no players so why should you get the same reward for less risk? If they added PVE servers, then they would have to make it to where the loot gives you half of what it usually does.

Would be nice idea ... (and/)or make creatures much more aggressive/challenging on PvE servers (hit harder, more hp, just tweaking numbers i guess). That way PvE guys would be really pleased.

  • @brudorow I feel that you can still do solo voyages and activities with PVP, but I understand. Not to bring up another PVP server based game, but they allow you to pay an extra $10 a month for PVE. I wouldn't mind having that option. It is good though when I see other pirates, it makes it a bit more exciting that way.
