Think of it as adventure mode.
However in order to join you gotta not just fill your ship up with crew, but wait for half of the ships in the server to fill up.
Half of the server will be in an alliance with you and part of the crew.
The other half will be a seperate alliance.
Alliance flags are disabled so you cannot merge alliances and to make it more appealing you get gold for sinking ships of the enemy alliance.
You can add all your friends into party chat, and join as a fleet pitting yourself against a rival fleet.
Hence the term Fleet mode.
Random matchmaking will be a nightmare though.
So talk to your friends, invite them and join together and you wont be waiting long to join a game.
Other games ive played usually has guilds etc and a community inside it. Even GTA 5 you can join a community of players who all chat and play together.
This could allow groups of players to form andmake their own guilds and battle other guilds too. Its natural rivalry will brew and it would be fun to watch this unfold on twitch.
Course you can join these servers and group up with players etc like its any other mode. Be fun for a solo player too as you can just drop into a game and be in an established alliance. But its true potential is to not join randonly, gather your buddies, get into party chat and join together.
