Shark improvements

  • Sharks suffer from the same design problem that many threats in this game has: Unavoidable/non-interactive dmg. Shark also are too passive and spawning is wonky.
    Improvements:

    • Interruptible attacks. Unless you have enough dmg to kill them, when a shark charges you, you can't do anything to protect yourself. This is frustrating and poor design. If attack were interruptible then it gives players a sort of mini game. They can shoot while it's just swimming or they can hold until it charges. This also would be a nice bit of consistency and a way of communicating how the same interaction works on the meg.
    • More aggression. With the ability to interrupt attacks, this will allow sharks to become more aggressive(maybe only under certain circumstance(more in next point)). Sharks are pretty non threatening right now because of how passive they are(which is good when dmg is unavoidable). I think that seeing a shark should mean danger and require you to keep a close eye on them to avoid getting eaten. When I first played this game I saw them as a threat. I had a really fun time dealing with them thinking they were dangerous and trying to protect my friends while they swam back to the ship. Now I see them for what they are. A minor annoyance at best.
    • Better spawn/aggression triggers. They spawn way too randomly. During normal swims I think they should rightly be a rare occurrence. However, when people take dmg or die in the water it would be really cool if they began to spawn much more and become much more aggressive.

No need to interrupt attacks of a shark.
U can sword a shark to death before it attacks. Even give me 3 sharks at once. I’ll sword them and take their meat.
Be vigilant and make sure u attack first. They need time to get into attack mode and if u are vigilant enough u can sword them down before they attack.

Sword lunge, sword lunge, dual slash

Guns also work of course but they are kinda bullet heavy.

Aye after i posted it, i noticed. Next time i'll first drink my coffee before i actually post -.-'.

  • @devariss

For me it was 8 in the morning. Have a good day

  • Good post

  • Maybe make the two shark types have different personalities?

I like this. Use current ragged, scarred shark to denote aggressive charging sharks. Use smoother lighter colour sharks to denote sharks that can be passive or mildly aggressive. Make the lighter sharks a permanent fixture around bigger islands (and, or course, Shark Bait Cove).

When players are hopping in and out of the water tonnes, an angry sharks or two will spawn. Angry sharks, however, are old and rough. Whilst their bites do a little more damage, they take one less sword slice to die. They’re not young and healthy sharks.

The risk factor is nice and would make them a solid asset to Hunter’s Call grinders. This would also help Ferry of the Damned grinders get the blue flame consistently.

  • Here is a post I made in a similar topic over a year ago.

The only thing I don't like about the sharks is they are all the same. This is where more sharks could come in, along with different forms of attack.

    • A Hammerhead shark that will come in and take smaller bites.
    • A Mako shark that will take an exploratory bite then come back and try to drag you down to the depths to drown you.
    • A Bull shark that will grab you and thrash you about until struck by something or you are dead.

Have them appear more prominently in various areas like the open sea, near the shoreline, shipwrecks, the roar, etc...

  • @archangel-timmy I would like to see more variety as well, but that would take more effort from Rare and therefore much less likely to happen. Either way we need to fix what we have first.

  • @waronpants2664 I've been preaching it for ages. Gimme a 1/100 chance for a fat shark to spawn. Just a big ol' round boy.

  • Did you know that you can block a shark's bite with a sword? 😏

Yep, you absolutely can! I've done it! 😁

    Twice... 😅

...it's really hard to do. 😣

It either requires precision placement, timing, or both - haven't quite figured that part out yet. 🤔
