Possible new hack?

  • The instant opt-out for Xbox crossplay was implemented, the game became fun again. Sure, you might lose a battle or two, you might get killed a few times, but finally you had a chance again. No longer were the same ships with the same sail-set on the same course able to overtake you. No longer were other players able to one-shot kill you with a blunderbuss from across long distances. No longer were players 100% accurate with their cannon shots against you. The game was (as it was intended to be) "even" again.

But about two or three weeks after the opt-out took effect I began noticing those things starting to happen again. Rarely at first, but as time goes on I'm seeing them more often. Players not even facing me able to 1-shot me with a pistol. Players typing their chats in (which an Xbox player has an ability to do, but is cumbersome and time consuming) instead of using party- or game-chat. I even saw an opposing player get killed on my ship after his had sunk...and somehow respawn on my ship.

So I'm starting to think that there must be either a workaround that is allowing PC players to start playing on the Xbox but switch to the PC after loading in, or there is a new hack that is allowing PC players to appear as Xbox players. I also suspect that Xbox players are able to start the game with a controller and switch to keyboard/mouse after starting.

I've played the game long enough to know without checking when I am playing against an Xbox (with controller) player and someone who is not, and lately I have been noticing a lot of the latter - even though the message on the screen says "Sailing the seas with Xbox with controller only".

Either there are new hacks/workarounds, or that message is put there just to placate the Xbox users and crossplay is still in full effect. And I really don't think the latter is the case...

  • And it starts.

  • @d-cottingham Hackers are even worse than the community of this game, what makes you think they are nice enough to not make hacks for consoles? There were Xbox hacks long before the opt-out. The only thing that could have changed is that Xbox players realized how bad they really are and bought them in greater numbers.

Also I would bet that most of the times you think someone is hacking, the servers are actually melting and having hard time working the math out. It could be directly related to the player population so maybe enough of Xbox players opted-out, congratulations, and so the servers are overloaded again.

  • The level it would take to hack an xbox is above most players abilities. Unlike PC you cant just simply "buy" a hack and install it on an xbox.

As for a full opt out server that was never gonna be possible as you can join a friends game...even if that friend is on an xbox only server.

All that opt out did was turn open play crews into and even bigger dumpster fire then it was before.

  • @xshadovvhunterx

Quite on the contrary, you can indeed buy and install hacks for XBoxes. You can buy hardware and software variants, things that make the system think you're using a controller when you're not, things that given the standard set of in-game hacks (aimbot, wallhacks, invincibility, etc), and much more. This was all available long before opt-out, long before Sea of Thieves was even released.

And if a PC or M&K player tries to join an opt-out server, they are presented with an error message and the main menu screen. They don't get in just for joining a friend. Though you are right about it making open crews a bit worse.

  • I've had this same issue with someone looking completely the opposite direction and killing me with a blunderbuss but I honestly think it's a mix of bad connection and horrible hit registration.

I got it recorded so I definitely know my eyes didn't fool me.

  • @D-Cottingham This is actually quite hilarious.

Sorry mate if my thousands of hours of practice has made my cannons near 100% accurate. And all that other stuff you mentioned is just desync. Maybe ask for pve servers next.

I've seen only a handful of suspicious players and only once a guy I could prove was hacking in my near 3500+ hours of playing this game. What I'm getting out of this is that you meet them on daily basis, which to me sounds like you cry hacks everytime you loose.

I'm Xbox btw and play both opt out and crossplay. Haven't noticed that much of a difference other than opt out has been slightly easier thanks to the potatoes who thought everyone better than them was PC, have opted out.

  • @xshadovvhunterx said in Possible new hack?:

Seems like you don't know how opt out works. PC cannot join Xbox only, even through a friend.

  • @xshadovvhunterx you cant join a friend as a pc player if he is in an opt out server, pc players get a notification that they are in an opt out preference.

Hacks are purchasable for xbox as well what people need to realize is that xbox is no more and no less then a pc with a custom version of windows

Also no hack is able to change the amount of damage a bullet does as this is calculated by the server not the client!

  • Dear lord, you guys got your opt out and you're still complaining? What more do you want!?

  • Oh no, something happened that I didn't expect! THIS MUST BE A HACK!!!

  • @d-cottingham I am an Xbox player. I play with friends who use opt out but if solo I'll cross play. I don't see much difference myself. Not saying there aren't hackers. There are in every game. I did want to let you know that if you keybind text chat and have Xbox app linked to your console and open on your phone then you can use your phone to text chat. This is what I do and I can see how it would appear I would be PC when im not since I can type on my phone just as fast as someone can with a keyboard.

  • This... is a troll post right? Please tell me you're not serious...

  • @d-cottingham You do know that you can double gunning on xbox too right?
But yeah keep blaming us for being the bad guys.
Now be quiet and have fun and your mode that you have waited for.
But wait, i thought that only Pc players are hackers and toxic?
Ah you all deserve this after blaming us on everything now enjoy in your little pond.

  • @d-cottingham

I have played a lot on opt out, and have experienced none of your concerns.

You have to realise there are some very good players on Xbox and they will kill you easily, with cannon and weapons.
I myself have come up against many a great Xbox player, and that's fine.
There is always a better player on the seas, and when you get several of them on the same ship. Your gonna get sunk and killed.

There are no PC players on opt out!

  • We all knew it would happen, all the console users that were crying 'PC hackers' now have to come to terms that they're just not as good at the game as they think they are. I must say that is some hilarious straw clutching @D-Cottingham to the point where I'm not sure if this is a troll post or not?

Of all the hours I've put into this game there is only two occasions I've suspected hacking and both times turned out to just be superior players than myself, being @wejoww and @zantrulla (apologies if this is considered name shaming? Although this is to highlight their skill and praise them).

It's time to accept you can't just blame hacks whenever you die and sometimes you need to look in the mirror. But anyway, thanks for the laugh.

  • @d-cottingham playing since opt out I have Amjad nothing like this happen games been better then ever

  • @octopus-lime no one console user

  • @d-cottingham

Xbox only option and still make PC the boogieman when you lose. Typical...

You got your opt out, stop pointing at PC owners for your issues and realize that it is now xbox players that are to blame for your defeat. You left the crossplay environment stop using PC players as your scapegoats, it is getting old and spiteful.

  • OP is a germ playing in a petri dish with other germs.

Since he has no idea what a superior player can do, pc hacks must be the logical conclusion.

    Way to go, Sherlock.

  • @tak225 If you're going to @ me then at least make some sense with your message.

  • @d-cottingham If you believe a player has been toxic in the game or suspect foul play, you can report them to Xbox Live here. You can also submit a support ticket to Rare Player Support.

As this is a matter for support and not the forums, I'll drop anchor on this thread.
