@simplelyricc ok as I have returned to the game repeats chest are pretty new to me then 1st I found one I gave it away to another crew as I had no clue what to do with it last time I sold one never got gold got the blue coins

@tak225 it gives you 30 dubloons(blue coins) equivilent to 12k and the gold ones straight up give you 25k both are really valuable.
@TAK225 I just wanted to clarify a couple things in case you didn't know.
I seen you had spawn caming is against pirate code. Spawn camping is when a person spawns on their ship and someone is waiting to kill them. Camping or waiting at the hideout is just pirates doing what pirates do. Nothing against the pirate code on that.
Also, there are two types of reaper chest. The regular one gives dubloons. The reapers bounty, which has the gold top, gives 25,000 gold.
EDIT: I forgot to add you can tell the difference in the reaper chest before getting them by the color of the light beams they emit in the sky. Multicolor beams are regular reapers and gold beams are reapers bounty chests. My apologies. Enjoy the seas matey!

Personally I have turned in about 9 golden reaper chests. I've been chased on 3 occasions, stolen at least 2 from ships heading towards Reaper's Hideout (though we were still far away). Not once have I personally seen anyone camping there.
That said, I expect it is Rare's expectation that by forcing all those chests to go to one spot, that player interaction can be increased. I get that's maybe not the interaction you're looking for, but it is a pirate game after all.
Spawn camping is a iffy area. It all boils down to intent and there really is no way to know what the intent is. Some peeps want to say well I have no loot so they have no reason, but maybe they want supplies, other will say well we have no supplies, so maybe they just want to force you out of the server so that they can control it.
Not all spawn camping is malicious. We got spawn camped the other day because my crew mate took it badly. His fault though, we had a ton of loot and I kept pushing for us to sell, "no man it's easier to turn everything in at the end!" I got mad because everytime im on a boat with people who say this, we always end up getting robbed.
Well we did. Got attacked. They called the attackers griefers and other choice words. We got camped. All they said was "you could have been a good sport about this, but now we are just going to trigger you more"
I wanted to scuttle but then the wonderful message from god came "we can't scuttle, that's what they want. I'm going to report them for greifing and spawn camping"
And he never stopped. Kept going off on the attackers. This carried on for about 10 to 20minutes. We all just left and remade another ship, left him there.
Probably still there, ship coasting on the seas like the ferry. If you listen closely you can hear the moans of a whiny spirit "greifers!!" "Toxic!!!" "Something holes!!!

Setting up an ambush to steal a highly valuable treasure sounds quite piraty to me actually.
Every reaper themed treasures, voyages or objectives also have always been designed specifically with PVP confrontation at the center of them, so having a single place to sell these kinds of loots and creating a point of convergence for players to aim towards eachother seems on-theme and working as intended.
As for spawn camping well, take solace in the fact you fought skilled controller players, and scuttle! Or not, in which case you choose to draw out your own abuse in your own terms.

@schwammlgott as I explained earlier since returning to the game reapers chest are new to me when I first had one I gave it to another crew because I did not know what to do with it

@TAK225 Kind of hard not to be a fan of you, many players here post once, at most twice ideas without any logic, but they soon understand how the game works and stop. You are one of the few here who still insist on posting things like that. Then you can't tell if your account is just a fake account making a joke or if it's serious. But that's okay, I laugh anyway. Honestly I really enjoy the reaper chests :) They get paid well and the risk to bring them in isnt really high at all.
On my solo Sloop since I started playing I collected 10-15 of them and only once a Player tried to steal if from me in a very "noobish way" so it was easy to Counter BUT funny as hell :DAlso often there are other things you get when you dive for the reaper chest wich (at least for a new Player like me) you can sell for a good amount of Gold.
But I like it when People complain about the reaper chests that means more chests for me ninja pirate mode engaged
