PC - huge problem

@swoozh3 well if you have it on pc for starters go into settings, click video settings and turn on performance counter, that lets you see your fps and ping. If you have high ping it will give you an idea of the server you are on. In my case when I log in I usually average about 80 ping meaning I am in a european server (which is good for me) when I see 150 or more I know I am in a US server and on the rare occasion I will see 200 plus ping then I got connected to aussie servers lol, thats usually from joining a friends game though, whoever starts up the game and envites others in is the host. So for example If I boot up the game and invite you in we will likely end up on european server as I am from Ireland but you could be stuck with bad ping if your in US etc.

@swoozh3 On average though even with a low ping server that is correct for your region you WILL get ping spikes, you will see that 60 or so ping jump up to 350 or even 500 briefly and then back down from time to time, its always been an issue and gotten worse with recent update,...welcome to sea of thieves ;)...game is still v fun though I have to say.

@swoozh3 hmmm are you Australian by any chance, aussie people get screwed as there is no servers for sea of thieves over there at all to the best of my knowledge so you will connect to american servers.

@swoozh3 hmmmm I am EU too, Ireland, No issues most of the time when I host the game, I usually get 60 - 90 not including the occasional spike to 300 or so for a few seconds when more ships come close but it generally stays around there, I dont know man thats odd.

@Swoozh3 check xbox app settings-network check your perfomance: latency packet loss etc, make sure NAT is open if theres any problems google it

i've had this issue where internets running great on everything except sea of thieves, and the ppl im playing with aren't lagging either, other than the obvious restart router etc, the only thing thats helped is running these command in windows powershell.

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns

mostly find the first 2 fix it,

Servers are getting worse for sure I have seen the same the last 2 updates have doubled my ping on EU servers and if joining my US friends I just cant play. No game optimizations with the updates are making things worse. I have gone from a 30 ping to a 70-80 hitting 100 on spikes almost making the game not worth playing.

@undulantband641 Yeah I have not been part of SOT that long but no matter what I do optimizing my computer and network is not working and proves that its nothing my end giving me the problems this is a server problem. Any other EU server no problems like this, its only this game I am getting the high ping and its so bad I just dont enjoy playing the lag spikes are bad the game locks up and jumps about.

Because the artists and designers who make the skins are also the ones maintaining the netcode, right?

IDK who takes care of what I am not in the dev team all I do know is that the server performance has dropped and the game is laggy and spiking when i play since the last 2 updates that was my point. The skins and freebies for prime I liked won't doubt that but some time needs to be spent on the game optimizations and those who are making skins probably have some control over model optimization so maybe he has a point I can't say he is wrong or right.

I had the same issue until I upgraded to fiber. Been rubber band free ever since. I’m in the SE US. Maybe I just have better servers? This game is hugely dependent on a good connection to the server.

@marsmayflower I am running on fibre also with a 200 DL and a 10 UL i shouldn't be seeing a ping of 60 or more on a EU server.

@captain-awol522 now that I think of it, I have had some rare cases of lag recently at the FOTD when there were four or more ships. Very wonky it was.

@marsmayflower yeah something is not right server-side but be damned if anything will change soon with it, I am already playing less due to this. Will see what happens with the next patch/update if anything changes.
