you should NOT be able to attack with a sword while you're getting slashed with a sword

  • @tempestbob-shop oh ok, its not your english its just my lack of understanding, i couldnt even tell it wasnt your first language

  • @d4m0r3d Sorry to interject here, but I think that raises a couple of issues (when you talk about stun lock). You mention right clicking, meaning PC. Not to turn this into a PC vx Xbox thing. But movement wise, sometimes PC players can get next to me or around me before I can turn to block (My sensitivity is maxed on controller, and yes, I do have KB/M, but even that doesn't seem to make much of a difference). Second, and this is bigger than the first, blocking does not work all the time. In fact, I would say blocking works less than half the time. And once that first hit happens, stun locked, no way to counter the attack. Smash buttons trying to block or jump out of the way, but nothing works as you are stun locked. The attacker can continue their attack and you can't counter it.

  • @nofears-fun i think if blocking isnt working for you all the time it might be a lag thing, and yes you did make me realise that you guys cant just look at us and block due to your low sensitivity. : ( i do wish they would give you guys aim assist to help you out, i mean every other xbox game has it, and that literally includes solo games, so it is kinda insane to me that rare released an online CROSS PLAY game with no aim assist.
also when you get hit, you can block the rest of the attacks, i do it all the time, or maybe im just crazy, this might be another pc advantage of it being easier for me to mash right click compared to you mashing watver button it is. idk im kinda curious now because i swear i have been hit once and would block the other 2 hits.

  • @d4m0r3d I wish I could block after the first hit. That first hit lands, and I am locked right up. I literally can't do anything. I can't turn, I can't move side to side or forward/back. I can't jump. I can't raise my sword. I can't switch weapons. The only time I can recover from that first hit is if, by some miracle, there is a pause from the other players attack.

I believe they had a form of Auto Aim back in beta (before my time), but got rid of it as there were problems with it. One example I heard of, you are being attacked by a pirate and skellies at the same time. AutoAim would not give you a choice on your target.

I am not sure if being stun locked is different for xbox players than it is for PC players. If that is the case, it would explain a few things I have noticed in the past. Including the fact that I have been able to land the first hit many times, but the other player is able to recover, move out of the way, pull out a gun and shoot me.

As for my set up, I have Xbox One X with SSD, with Elite controller or Razer Turret KB/M. My internet is hardwired with 400mps. Having said all of that, I do realize that the set up is still limited by xbox. But I have the absolute best console set up possible, and I still get steam rolled far to often. I do admit, I lack practice lately, as I avoid PvP these days. All of the "balancing" on combat has made it unplayable for me. And it does not seem to matter how much I try. The results are the same. Back when the game first came out. I was above average in melee combat. Now, I can't compete most of the time.

  • The sword fight mechanics are terrible. Luckily the Blunderbuss makes them obsolete. Which is terrible.

  • @nofears-fun how wouldnt it, they could just make it so it prioritises players over pve, this has been done in other games. its so wierd, i hear about ideas the devs tried in the past, that they give up on just because they seem to be too lazy to make work, idk i feel like it would have been better to keep that kinda aim assist in rather than what we have now. also why would it even be so bad was it like an aim lock that auto aimed you and locked you on them, im only suggesting aim assist, one that kinda drifts you in the direction of the player, it will slow down when you get closer to the target, and speed up when you get further away from the target, this is usually how aim assists work, so i mean i dont even see how this would have been too bad with pve, you just look left and sure you might slow down on the skellie but if you keep continuing it should be fine. idk i just dont see how it could be worse than what we have now. plus they could have just made it so aim assist doesnt work on pve.

  • @nofears-fun

Blocking is definitely hard now that's why I say revert back to launch mechanics and make sword mandatory because they had a slow for character using the sword. This game was so much more balanced during launch. Players didnt argue over pcvxbox so much. Only when double gunning became popular.

  • I agree with the rest of the opinions.

This is a issue that particulary bothers me. Right now, since the FOTD update, you can't trust in your sword any more. You block, you get the initiative swinging the sword... and you end dying while the foe is still alive and able to hit you... unbelievable. Lag stinks bro!!

This gets even worse in PVE. Running away after missing a sword hit on a skeleton is the only thing you can do. This is such a ridicolous mechanic. Combat should be more technical. You stand frozen for two seconds without being able to block back. It feels like your keyboard/controller was broken. Most of the times this ends with a skellie blunderbuss in your face or running away like a chicken. Lag also makes this happens very often.

Rare, take the money from the Pirate Emporium and hire a dev expert on combat design. And fix the server performance issues.

In the early months, you were able to take down a whole crew by blocking, covering your back againts a wall and side stepping.

  • @d4m0r3d

Blocking doesn't work all the time like the others have said.

I've been hit through my block before because of latency and issues. It seems the servers or clients can't keep up with the rapid directional movement and the delay of trying to pull up your block.

I've also killed players through their block, they were clearly defending but I hit them through their block. Probably because I was too close to their character and my attack went "passed" their block and registered as a hit from behind??

Launch mechanics didn't have any of this nonsense.

The intentional delay they put into the game has also caused some weapon switch problems for me as I try to switch weapons immediately and the game hasn't registered the switch so when I press something, the game reverts back to my previous item.

Gun - switch to sword and immediately pull up block - game unequips the sword and pulls the gun back up trying to ADS.

Sword mandatory and launch combat mechanics.

  • @xultanis-dragon i mean you can get hit from the side while blocking if your apponent is moving around you, but i have never been hit through a block.

i have killed players who were blocking by jumping around them

"The intentional delay they put into the game has also caused some weapon switch problems for me as I try to switch weapons immediately and the game hasn't registered the switch so when I press something, the game reverts back to my previous item."

i have never experienced this? what region are you? and what ping do you normally get? also maybe its a hardware thing, cause im on pc, idk how it would be but maybe??

  • So I just wanna say this....

I got cyber bullied a while back and haven’t really played. Especially with the yearly releases of some of my faves...

But it was mainly because of the cyber bullying in. I logged in the other day.

I’m on an OG Xbox one. The game “looked” different. The waves seemed more waves.

I wrecked a 3 man Brig solo. And. I knew IMMEDIATELY I had an advantage.

You know what that advantage was? I moved my XBOX One up stairs a next to the router and had a speed of 150 MBPS.

Now I’m a PVP god!!!! (Kidding)

But that’s the truth. I was running circles around these guys and my “Skills” were nothing more than a better sever connection.

Issue isn’t guns, swords or any of that. This game is bonked with Server Connection.

So I’ve always had this theory of crew make up. A dude from Australia, England, Canada, US...= Instant Death.

Solo with a great connection now
    I’m the cyber bully!

  • @d4m0r3d

Usa, central and I'm usually playing in my region with 50 to 80 ping. It happens, its definitely worse when I play on my friends server which is 250+ ping. Would have to actually PAUSE for a full second before i could do anything or it would do the switch glitch.

Still happens though. I think I'm just switching weapons to quickly and immediately trying to do something, the delay causes the game to not register me switching the weapon and just causes me to go back to whatever I have.

This used to happen a lot when they first introduced the delay mechanics. When I would try to switch to food and immediately eat it but it would switch back to whatever weapon I had previously.

Use sword, pull out food and mash the eat button, banana came out then switchs back to my sword swinging.

I died a lot to this.

Never happend during launch mechanics because there was no delay

  • @xultanis-dragon well it has never happened to me and i play on my local servers with 50 to 80 ping aswell

  • @glannigan idk about that, probs just a bad crew, and if thats what you call cyber bullying, ehhhh not really, killing someone in a pvp game isnt cyber bullying imo

  • @tempestbob-shop
You are naive to think sword is complex because it really is not. You're talking to an experienced Mordhau player here and i can tell you that SOT sword play is baby level by any means.

All you do is left click, right click, jump around your target when they parry so you cant hit through their parry, dash ( almost never worth it since the lag can really turn against you ).

Now what i'm doing is i binded my "drop (X)" key to mousewheel up and every time i miss a hit i sroll up and i can hit again really fast, allowing me to reset my combo time and perma-stun my targets.

Is it skill ? kind of. Is it good for the game ? Hell no its stupid and lazy decisions by lazy devs that add content to a broken game thinking " Oh its just a little bug " while its litteraly destroying the purpose of the game.

I'm mostly rolling on 95% of the people i encounter on ground fight while all i have is a decent CSGO aim ( avg 5% shots missed ) and a few brain cells in pressing keys to move around my target and flawlessly on the ship.

To end up on a good note, i wish SOT devs will realize they're missing the opportunity to make this game an amazing competitive/Open world game and will seriously invest into server issues : Lag and Hitreg ( while fixing 1y.o canon/food bugs while they're at it ) and make the combat something that was thinked by experienced people in combat balance ( prepare some money to hire some guys because it seems they have none ).
