Fort Of The Damned Commendation Cheesing

  • Now im in no way complaining about tucking here. I think its a great part of the game however individuals are constantly abusing the fact that the commendation for opening the vault for the Fort Of The Damned is based on who is on the fort at the time. This is obviously catering towards those who like to alliance and dont get me wrong I like the general idea of it even though I dont like alliances but it is implemented HORRIBLY. I'm not the type of person to sit there and reward people who decide they want to sleep on a rock on the outskirts and then once found shoot back out to the island and do it again in order to receive their commendation. This is by far the most scummiest way to receive it. Its gotten to the point where we've decided it's probably better to red sea the key or sail away for 2-3 hours to prevent these type of players from getting rewarded for simply doing nothing. Theres possibly two solutions I see to this.

    1. Make it so it only rewards the alliance that does the Fort and not just people on the island.

    OR

    1. Make it so only the crew that puts the key in the vault GETS the commendation and no one else. This would for one make the fort more competitive aswell as people would want to fight more for the commendation progress.

I by no means struggle to find people tucking on the Fort. It is just the fact that they have a ship far out and just shoot back out immediately. It also becomes a problem when you know about 2-3 crews are hiding on the island and at that point the red sea deserves that red key.

  • This feels really minor, at the end of the day, it only leads to a tick on a commendation. Is it that big of a problem someone gets a jacket? People cheesed the Legendary Thief title too by trading Chests, nothing was done their either.

I would also add that this breaks precedent with previous patches. I'm not sure if you were around, but this was the same for when Gunpowder Skeletons were first released. Ships fighting around a fort while Players where fighting still got credit. For achievements that required cooperation for destroying these skeletons. This felt like a good thing because this predated the Alliance System. This was a time when players just equally split loot if they were cooperating.

I don't think its that big of a deal, I'd be more worried about the people planning an ambush over mooching a number tick on a commendation.

It is arguably the most boring waste of time to achieve commendation progress this way. I think most people will agree that it's a lot more fun to get the progress while actively playing the game and partaking in the new content.

The commendation tracking system is set up to reward any player who was on the island while the fort was completed. It would be a pain to design a commendation tracker that could really detect if a player was putting in the work, so there will be side effects to the simplicity of the current system that are unavoidable.

  • I find tucking to be cowardly.

  • I know it doesnt seem like such a big deal at the end of the day and yes it is a check on the commendation but this commendation will just become something much like Legendary Thief. It will just have 0 meaning at all. When I see Legendary Thief all I can think of is "probably cheesed it" because that's more than likely what happened. I dont want to see this commendation end up like it aswell. Commendations should be a way to show off your skill and accomplishments not showing off the fact that you cheesed it. This fort should really be encouraging PvP and yes it does do that it also encourages this sort of behaviour because of its rather silly system.

Back when normal strongholds were heavily contested, alliances weren't even in the game and players fought around them for hours, slowly completing waves as they fended off skeletons on the island. All of those crews got credit for their commendation being completed (specifically, the Order of Souls has a commendation for clearing strongholds). Anyone willing to hide on the stronghold and wait for the other crews to complete it would get credit too, even if they didn't help. They got a little bit of reputation every now and then from it, not much different to the one now giving doubloons every now and then and a jacket at the end. It doesn't give them an advantage by getting the commendation, in fact, it doesn't get them anything bar the three times a commendation is completed.

  • The odds of just being on the server long enough to benefit from this substantially are very slim. Just assuming the fort is active when you get on. Then you have to take the time to get onto the fort without being noticed. Manage to not have a crew(s) that checks the tuck spots. Then have to wait while they run this multiple times. half the time you have to wait for someone to get a ritual skill to run them back to back. I don't think a large portion of the player base have the time or patience to lay there and earn a jacket. Might be a bit too worried about it.

  • Please leave it how it currently is. Asking rare to tinker with commendations is scary. They only just got them working properly, and you want them to start fiddling with them? I do agree that this is very cheesy(and exceptionally boring) though.

  • That player has to kill at least 3 skeletons and deal damage to the boss.

Perhaps that’s another way to do it? Idk

    Welcome to...

    the Scumm Bar 😁

Sounds like you begrudge it others who have not got the lights lit up and fought the whole fight.
Well... #bemorepirate is maybe the most accurate answer.

Imho this is all fine and if you ask about me, no never done it.
To me it's irrelevant when i unlock it and i welcome any playerinteraction and sandbox feeling of the game.

  • i did 5 with my crews active, and two while im hiding .and i will hide 3 times more today.when i have the jacket i will never do the fort again for what? i dont need athenes anymore.after the crew finished yesterday the fort i helped them sinking the incoming galleon ,and i ask everytime if we wanna do another one together, for me the fun in sot is the variety i can form alliances i can fight i can hide;)

  • It just makes the reward so much LEDs rewarding knowing everybody could do it by tucking...
