How a real pirate ship should look like!

And I developed this idea showing that not only we have lack in ship details, but in everything, so it must be not the chosen style, but laziness!
    Clear enough ?

I am very happy for you that you will soon have a game that scratches an itch that SoT apparently does not. With that said, passing judgement on the work ethic of Rare's employees does not reflect well on you.

So buying a product don't giving you a possibility to criticise it ?
You should just shot up and obey even if you don't like some aspects of it ?
If you buy the car with some future customisation possibilities, but even from first updates you see that you don't like where it goes - you will not ask to change anything or make more efforts because you paid for it?

So 5 recoloured items instead of 5 differently modelled items as a "new content" it's not laziness but "limits of a cartoon-ish game", maybe that's why we don't have any nice cartoonish little details, because of some mythic limits...

Thx for explanation, now I know if you choose cartonish style you can just make 1 low-poly model and 4 same characters of different colour and make a hit!

Hm, sadly devs of Borderlands didn't knew it.

You don't understand the meaning of the game dude and that's sad. They don't want customization items to be the main content. The content was the quest that bring you to the Megalodon.
Put the word "social" before "content" and then, you'll have the best update of this kind never done since a while.

And also. You didn't read a half of my previous message so instead of waiting, I say goodbye to you now !

@symbioto But you don't know what it took to develop the game. Since you can't reply without insulting anyone.

I don't insulting anyone, I just can't believe how ppl trying to reply without even understanding a message, they just shout - "you don't understand nothing, go play another game", so that's why I ask my self maybe they have some problems and they can't read or understand...

Read 3 books calls a "quest" nowadays, little bit poor even for a quest, but it suppose to be an addon, fruit of 3 month's work

  • @symbioto no it's more like: the ability to have an opinion does not mean that you are compelled to share your opinion, nor does you having an opinion equate to your opinion being objectively correct.

If all you want to discuss is the visual appeal of the ships then it's a picture of a pirate ship that you are after not a functional in-game object. You can find many detailed images of pirate ships on google.

If it's the mechanics of the ships, we've been discussing that right here. The consensus seems to be that we're comparing apples and oranges.

It looks more like your whole agenda for this thread was to have a rant about Rare being lazy devs, the game being ded, the whole thing being a rip off and there not being any content but to be honest that's all been said many times before and in more eloquent and more interesting ways than your efforts here.

Actually I do not think you understand. I'll give you an example. Let's say you spend a couple of months creating something artistic. You spend nights, weekends, holidays, maybe miss one of your kid's birthdays. You tell me which criticism you would take as a judgement on your character:

    1. "The proportions are just weird to me, there is no detail, and it is a terrible representation of what I think you were going for. I find this disturbing."

    2. "This is just lazy! Do you see this over here? This is what artists normally deliver. Symbioto, yours doesn't come close! You didn't even try. Again, laziness!"

One is a (perhaps constructive) criticism of the product while the other is a criticism of you. Now, do you see how some of your posts have veered into personal attacks on the character of Rare's employees?

Facebook? Social, VRchat?social, about what game you interact with players to achieve something and make new friends? Any online game maybe? Wow to this day for raiding and rated pvp? Guild wars 2 ? For everything there from world events to WvW and raids, actually in any online game you interact with ppl the point is that you dont need to interact here to achieve anything here becouse there is maybe nothing to achieve? I interacted once for meg then no need for that lul didnt know that the point of this game is to be social and bot even the cosmetics where did human logic go? Dont call this a game then, just a hub from your words

  • @ghostpaw

Something "artistic" with 1/3 of content calls "indie games" and sells at 10-20 bucks, and when you buy it you know what you taking half-backed stuff and you don't complain!

Game positioning itself such a AAA project which costs 60 euros in EU zone and have 1/3 of content is different stuff!

I don't sell my projects at full price if I didn't finished it completely and sure that it works, it's disrespectful for my clients

I never said you are not entitled to your opinion about SoT or your glee over another game's merits. I was commenting on your personal attacks on people. You can criticize an action without attacking the person. It is dawning on me this is going nowhere.

Could you reed before posting sometime guys, I don't compare genre of this games - I talk about fascinating details of the ship - Sails, ropes, decorations etc.

Totally different art design, there is not only one way to do it, the cartoonish style in SoT is simply awesome.

About the game, no interest at all with it, If I want to play something like this I launch Black Flag, more interesting than a multiplayer that will be so boring and lackluster like For Honor.

  • @symbioto so you found your new game bye bye :)

No I'll still rob you in this one ;)

  • So this game is all cut scene prompts? I'd hope they'd add extra detail if they are taking away practically all chances of any gameplay

  • @symbioto

Yeah, your initial post seemed even-tempered enough to be the set-up for an actual discussion.

Just didn't expect it to turn out to be a rant/zinger thread. Not really my thing as the condescension and circular arguments tend to just bore me, but I know some seem to enjoy them, so whatever.

  • @symbioto said in How a real pirate ship should look like!:

    @weedstar-deluxe

No, it's not pure PvP it's PvPvE also, free open world with customisations, it was confirmed yesterday.

And SoT as boring as hell with 3 types of missions, so what to say about Ubisoft boring games...

But post is about details of the ships which is rare was lazy to make.

Rare is lazy about everything. Yet the SoT fans love the laziness and corner cutting.

Don't get me wrong I love playing the game, but it is just such a lazy design.

    Lazy.

so? It's different art styles thats all. This game is better and will be more alive, That's just instanced naval battles.

  • Skulls and Bones looks really pretty in its own right, but in no way makes Sea of Thieves looks bad. It goes for realism, where as SoT goes for something else altogether.

Its seems a little silly to me that Ubisoft seems to have redisigned everything to put them in close competition with Sea of Thieves, but I guess it speaks highly of Rare messing up with the industry's conventions on dull game-making.

Skulls and Bones looks absolutly boring to me last year, but the new directions looks like a lot more fun, mostly because it takes inspiration from SoT.

I doubt I'll be playing it though. Only so much money and time to go around.

  • Short answer. I agree.

I hope Rare gets a little more detailed with the ship parts. They should be adding detail instead of removing shadows and ropes and things.
Different looking cannons, wheels, adding jib sails, etc.

It's been said a lot, but for a game that sells itself on cosmetic progression, we need more of it. It seems to me that kind of thing would be easier than the big dev projects, but I'm no expert.

  • @captain-arcanic I would take more stylized o'er more detailed. It be a unique lookin' game an I like that about it.

I agree more modification would always be welcome. Our options be limited but I t'ink that will come, wheels an' cannons and such, just like ye say.

As for the original topic.... aye, Skull n' Bones sure does look realistic when compared to a cartoonishly styled game. But t'was the point, no? Ye wouldn't compare Overwatch to Battlefield an' point out that Overwatch is not realistic lookin'.

Stylized art be the choice Rare made when developing the game. It be a game o' Krakens, skeletons an' giant sharks... not exactly the place for a realistic approach to yer design.

  • you can tell those that are xbox players and never play PC games. After AC4 came out and couple of friends created a game before sea of thieves came out that is basically skull and bones. The game is called Blackwake. It's a multiplayer ship combat game with individuals being the crews. It is 2 teams against each with respawns and in the repair and cannon use is a lot like sea of thieves. Healing is done the same way as sea of thieves as well. I haven't looked at blackwake in a bit but initially it was pirates against british navy. You chose a side and fought 3 on 3 ship battles much like warships but again made by 2 people who had no clue of programming before hand. Even League of Legends has jumped on the wake left by sea of thieves' innovation. They have an event that is nautical themed. The customization's will keep coming i am sure as yes only a few have been added so far but its a peek in to what more we may get. I also agree with the posts stating that they are different style games. Sea of thieves has and always will be about the adventure more than anything and that is their focus. Personally i like that aspect but i also love realism. The great thing about the gaming industry is the fact that if you build a successful game and someone else makes improvement in the same genre in the game, regardless if it is the same type, it will push the other to make changes. Without competition industries become stale.
