Game optimalization

  • Dear,

Almost Year passed when I moved to different city where the internet connection is not on high level as in previous one.
So my first thoughts were that the connection really suck.. What I found out is, that all other games like Space Marine 2, WoW, Helldivers and etc.. are playable without even noticing my ping is slightly higher.

unfortunately, I can not say the same about a SoT. This game is one of my favourite for Years now... Is there any possibility that we will get better optimalization ? (Question f or developers)
Or, and that would be the quickest I guess... Is there any possibility how to improve it by own? (Faster internet is not available here, all in the background is always on OFF when I am playing SoT..)

    Thanks for your tips!

    Arrr arrr!!

Well they arent as big games. Besides WoW which I assume doesnt load "everything" when you run around the world. SoT has a lot of loading + other players + ship cosmetics + World Events + active stuff all going on. A lot of AI.

    Possible.

  • The game servers aren't the best, and they're even worse on Safer Seas. Contrary to popular belief, Safer Seas runs multiple server instances on the same server (Shelley Preston confirmed this in a podcast a few years ago). It's probably why the physics fall apart more often on Safer Seas, high ping spikes are more common, and kicks happen a lot.

The High Seas generally runs better but it does still have ping spikes, which may or may not be down to the amount of players constantly leaving and joining servers (could be post hoc fallacy but it didn't seem so bad before the introduction of Hourglass and then voyage dives).

As for it improving? I don't hold out much hope for that, many of the issues are because they use Microsoft's Azure PlayFab servers, which have never been great, and I wouldn't be surprised if they mostly focus on their AI data centers now. So I don't think we're going to see much investment in game servers for a long time. A lot of this is outside of Rare's control and it does vary from region to region.

It might sound pessimistic and defeatist, but best we can do is try not to take it too seriously and enjoy what we can of the game. Performance is not something we have any real control over either.
