You have to be in an area that's friendly for megs to spawn, i.e. open waters. New players have just as much of a chance to get it as veterans do. It's a rare spawn after all. It reminds me of when I first started playing World of Warcraft 13yrs ago. I heard about this dragon you could have as a flying mount as long as you killed it. Some had been waiting for years to see it. It's called the Time Lost Protodrake (gee, wonder why). I decided to give it a try, knowing my chances were slim. I went to one of the 4-5 spawn locations, and after 3hrs of waiting, I gave up. I decided to do quests in the area instead. Once those were done, I was about to go and turn-in, when suddenly it spawned in front of me on Frozen Lake. I killed it, and was the proud owner of this dragon.
I felt bad getting it after just 3+ hours versus what other players have gone through, but it is what it is. You could very well get the Shrouded the next time you log on. As you sail around, it could happen in the next 5 minutes. Instead of holding my breath, I enjoy the game, knowing it'll eventually happen. And dear God I pray that nothing glitches out from the stories I've read from players through the years.

I am curious to know, exactly what i need to do to encounter the shrouded ghost?

Play the game and don't "Hunt for it" that messes with your head. Just play and dont expect to see it until it appears.

It’s a myth based on word of mouth. New players talking about getting it stands out more than a veteran, so word spreads more about new players which then makes it seem like they get it more. They don’t, chance is the same and is dumb luck. There’s also statistically more “new” players than veterans, so it’s just a skewed pov.

I recently got it after 6k hours and 550 megs killed according to this link https://www.seaofthieves.com/your-story-so-far
idk when it stops counting but I hadn’t killed another meg since the shrouded encounter and it says I have 551, so that last 1 would be the shrouded.

Also that’s megs killed, not encountered. I’ve ignored as many as I’ve killed and back when the landing page told you how many megs you’ve encountered I was in the 800s already.

I gave up a while ago ever getting it and just acccepted it wouldn’t happen. I was heading to the outpost with my crewmate after finding a horn I still needed and that’s just what spawned that time.
