SUGGESTION: Re-open the Glorious Sea Dog Tavern for SENIORS ONLY and make it a SENIOR RECREATION CENTER. Old folks like Ole Smee aren't as fast as we used to be. At age 66 I prefer to just meet people in the game instead of constantly fixing holes, bailing water, and taking care of all the other tasks. It's mental overload and hard to keep up with the pace. It usually ends in frustration and anger. The brain just can't process all the data coming in, especially in a PVP fight. Using the Sea Dog Tavern as a recreation center would quell and rumors of ELDER ABUSE and would show much RARE cares about their valued Golden Sunset Year players that just need a little more help. No matter how much we practice we will never be as fast as we were 40 years ago. It's just not there anymore. So, Upon ID proof of age, I suggest that Seniors always get 25% more rep, 25% more gold, 25% more boat speed, 25% more firepower, special edition senior ship sails, and access to the Sea Dog tavern with the hottub. Other suggestions are negotiable but the hottub is a deal breaker. Come on, do the right thing for us older, slower folks. Surely nobody would object to these most reasonable requests now would they? Thanks, Smee
Turn the Glorious Sea Dog Tavern Into a Senior Recreation and Meetup Center
Sounds like an interesting post, a couple of things could be elaborated though:

So if it is a recreational center for chitchats, why seniors only? You stated that seniors are not as fast as they used to be, but that has nothing to do with chitchat right? A recreational center sounds like an interesting idea, but a recreational center for seniors only sounds like you will be alone there for the most of the time as the majority of players won't even be able to join in...
Using the Sea Dog Tavern as a recreation center would quell and rumors of ELDER ABUSE and would show much RARE cares about their valued Golden >Sunset Year players that just need a little more help.
Yeah, I have respect for senior players trying to play the game at such an age, who is actively trying to learn the game and then figuring out they can't react fast enough anymore. However, as your potential opponent who you may meet on the high seas in the game, I do not know how old you are, who you are, or what you are like. Equally, that does not mean I am targeting elderly players on purpose and get satisfaction from sinking elder players, I won't actively TDM you until you sink because you are old, PVP happens sometimes and it does not necessarily mean you are targeted specifically.
So, Upon ID proof of age, I suggest that Seniors always get 25% more rep, 25% more gold, 25% more boat speed, 25% more firepower, special edition >senior ship sails, and access to the Sea Dog tavern with the hottub.
Ok... a few things here:
-
What is stopping me, a player in his 20s, from using my grandma's proof of age just to get the benefit. I can already foresee many players exploiting these buffs just by using someone else's proof of age.

Number 1 brings rises to this issue, 25% boat speed is crazy, I would assume you want this to run away from other players? Use solo seas to completely prevent meeting other players. 25% firepower is a very abstract thing, I am assuming you don't have much experience in PVP so here are some stats for reference:
Holes in ships comes in 6 sizes, we normally refer to them as 3 sizes since the other 3 sizes are harder to achieve, which is tier 1 hole, tier 2 hole and tier 3 hole. 1 shot from cannons make a tier 2 hole, 2 shots makes tier 3 holes while a shot from chains or scatter makes a tier 1 hole. Guns on the other hand, pistols deals 50 damage, snipers 75, and blunderbuss deals 90 damage if all shots hit. So please elaborate what you mean by 25% increased firepower.
- Ship sail is a good idea for identifying elder players in my opinion, may cause some problems as it basically sends a clear signal "I am too old to be good at pvp". You may still meet decent players nevertheless, but my concern is the direct signal it sends out which tells everyone that you might not be as good in pvp as others.
I think if members in our community needs help, I would love to see changes implemented to address these. However, some of the suggestions you made might not even be helpful for yourselves. It would definitely make the suggestions clearer to Rare if you would elaborate on these points!

Tools not rules. If you can't handle the cannonfire, it might be time to hang up your captains hat, or try to find a different way to play. If you are looking just for social experiences, there are other, much better games for meeting people. VRChat might be a good one to try. I don't want to sound like a bully, that is not my intent, I just want to put across that not everyone can do everything. I will never be good at basketball. I can see my own limitations and know that trying to get good at it would only lead to me injuring myself.
The sail would more often than not be an "I'm an easy target" sail. Most players won't even know what your sail means. They'll think it's from the season pass they missed 12 seasons ago or something. There are over 1000 time limited cosmetics in this game. Most of the items in the game are things you straight up cannot get ever again, and most players know at least that. The kind of player who would attack you after seeing the sail is the kind of player who will also say "If you don't like PvP play safer seas". You cannot win in this game without actually playing it to its fullest.
To expand, should they give an advantage to seniors in hourglass as well? Should they give advantages to players with disabilities? If a player can't effectively use their hands should they be allowed to have aimbot, or is a fast paced FPS game just not likely to be something they will be successful in? I don't hate your ideas, I just feel as though they wouldn't really work.
Excellent Points and Posts and I thank each one of you for my silly idea.
A couple of answers....of course it should be opened to everybody. But prodding RARE with the Senior things was simply a pirate tactic I came up with.
I would be alone there. It could be the Lobby and used as a launching point in the game. We don't need to have the doors open to be able to go in and out. Port Merrick is empty. Add additional Parcour courses now that we have the grappling gun. All kinds of ideas. Getting people there is the issue but a meetup place would making some of the Commendations easier to get (like Glitterbeard or Master of Thrones) that require other crews.RARE is not engaged in Elder Abuse but if they knew how old I was they might change my algorithm. I don't need to spend an hour on a fort with the Outpost in sight only to get jumped by two skelly ships and a Meg at the same time when I am 300 feet form port. I lost everything...again.
As for the last comment about "maybe it's time to hang up my pegleg" or something like that, I might just be telling a pirate tell about that as well. Watch out for Ole Smee out there! :-) Thank you all! Great ideas. Eventually they will re-open it. I just want to be around to see it. Been waiting 3.5 years now.
