Athenas Fortune Safe Zone

  • Athenas Fortune has no reason to allow players to be able to kill each other there. It's supposed to be a celebratory spot, for champions of the sea of thieves. Why can we kill each other there?

    Obligatory no new safe zones.

    Reminds everyone about Safer Seas.

Reapers Lair should get the same treatment if it happens, but no one wants to hear that either.

Obligatory scathing comment about OP getting killed in there and angry about it. It's happened once or twice to me.

In the Reaper's Lair you can take treasure, not so much in the Athena's Fortune Hideout.

  • I’m not sure what Rare’s full reasoning is, but I think it makes sense since Athena’s Fortune is still part of the open world. PvP is always a risk, even in alliances. No-kill zones often lead to exploits—I've seen players use them to glitch god mode in other games. Keeping everything consistent helps prevent abuse and keeps things fair.

  • True. But how often do people even camp or visit that place anymore??

At best. If you die they should respawn you on your ship.

  • Yeah honestly, this is a change that will probably be at the bottom of their priority list if they ever think about it XD

I agree for the most part. I don't think anywhere in the normal open world should be a safe zone, not even Shores of Gold. AF is different though. What purpose does killing people there even serve? It's not even a good PvP arena.

    Irrelevant

You can't bring any carried items into AF, you can bring items (I often kidnap peoples loot) into reapers lair.

I've actually never been killed there, but I was thinking about the fact that you can take damage there, and there is no reason as to why.

  • @uluckyhitreg The Ferry is a no kill invincibility zone, also located under Glorious Sea Dogs tavern on the map. If the ferry hasn't ever been exploited to give invincibility, then they can just as easily make it so AF also does this, and removes the effect when you walk through a portal.

I’m not sure I’d call it an invincibility zone. We just can’t arm weapons. I wonder if rare even has coded into the game the ability to be invincible.

Yes and no. It’s not coded to make you invincible—just to prevent weapon use. But if I remember right, a few years ago, players discovered a glitch that let them reach the Ferry without dying. That bypassed the no-weapons restriction, allowing them to kill others who couldn't fight back. The only option for victims was to quit the server.

And don’t forget, the Athena’s Hideout was made long before the Reaper’s underground hideout. They’re not fully the same. Athena’s Hideout is a single shared space players are moved to from any outpost, so it has to load everything in. The Reaper’s hideout only has one physical entrance, so it doesn’t require the same kind of loading.

While Rare could disable weapons in the Athena’s Hideout, I honestly don’t see the point—and it’s probably not high on their priority list.
