Kraken Rework

  • Lets make the Kraken a beast already.

    It shouldnt be scaled to ship size, killing a Kraken in just 2-3 tentacles on sloop is waaaaay easy.

    The Kraken is no matter what, and should be, the most feared beast on the Seas. Give her new mechanics like a timer for one example. If she isnt defeated within time limit, you are a gauranteed sink. Your loot isnt floating for a second crew to come along and steal.. infact your loot is stored within the Kraken, along with any other crews loot that have perished to her. Until defeated, she can stack loot. Shes supposed to be a World Event after all right?

    Introduce new ways that she can attack you.

    1. Make her head surface to go in for a powerful bite.
    2. Have a tentacle wrap the Mast and pull it down

  • @uk-weeman that’s too much and it’s just going to [mod edit] people off when they spend 6 hours stacking and then loose it all to a kraken which shouldn’t be difficult if you’re any good at the game.

    And so the newbies sink immediately to it, causing them to quit the game, further shrinking the playerbase and preventing newer players from sailing the seas.

    Use to be, players complain and that brings us to the weaken one. If something becomes difficult, the kids cry about it and Rare nerf to to please them.

    That just how they want to please the solo players, Frankly I enjoyed it more when it was the same between all ships.
    Even still...2-3 tentacles for some solo players is 'hard' xD

    So if your the unlucky running/chasing ship to get caught, dont do enough to finish the kraken between a player ship and Her. You lose either way :/

    Not really...she can "should" appear anytime, even with other WE sooo..she sorta a random Boss that spawns up.

    Difficult to pull off Im sure.

    • Have her spit ink and blind players
    • Wrap and Lift the ship out of the water (still difficult to pull off)
  • I used to run from krakens because I was used to the old krakens, but then I realised they nerfed them so hard that the kraken is basically an annoyance more than anything. It doesn't drop enough loot for me to care, like 2 pieces per tentacle and it's mid loot, the only thing worth getting is the meat. I cannot recall the last time I sunk to a kraken.

  • No, new players will find the current version hard, we do not want to make it impossible for them. There is already a steep learning curve.

    It should scale to be harder for larger crews as otherwise it is more of a challange for sloops, you wanted it to be feared by all, hence it has to scale.

    It should also scale to be harder for more experienced players, capping out at a certain level or using exponential tiers . I would use average number of Krakens defeated over hours played.

    So say I have killed 105, my crew mate 25. That's 130 defeated Krakens for an average of 65. If 10 was the base level and the tiers doubled each time. 10, 20, 40, 80, etc. We would be fighting a tier four duo sloop Kraken.

    Your new attacks:

    Some more new attacks
    3) update the Suck attack, if there are no players on deck then random crate or loot item is sucked off the ship instead.
    4) A tentacle wraps around the captainst or wheel, does damage to either which ever one it grabs.
    4) Drag down. If you do not remove the tentacle accross the deck, around the mast, capstain etc within a certain period of time, a second one is added. If both are there within a fixed time, the kraken does a ballest ball effect for 20 seconds, every mintue until at least one is removed.

    I have 3000k hrs, I often do not even take damage from kraken or skelly ships. However, I remember what it was like as a new player. Hence why it should scale with experance.

  • @miserenz When I started playing the game 5 years ago, krakens took more than downing 3 tentacles, and they took more than 3 shots per tentacle.

    Ok so you get to experience that again with want I am suggesting without making the Kraken a death sentance for a noob.
