Different gold rush hours

  • A Very Simple idea, make gold rush hours rotate. every month or so you change the gold rush hours by 1 hour. e.g., 01:00-02:00 UTC is gold rush time in January but in February its 02:00-03:00 UTC this allows people in places like Australia to be available for the gold rush buff more often. after a full year the timer will have basically reset back to its original time thanks to the 2nd gold rush hour.

  • Or......hear me out.......ditch the static gold rush hour altogther and give guild owners the ability to choose their own gold rush hour each day instead, which would be active for all guild members.

This would be a nice little customization that let's guild owners tailor gold rush to their guild's busy time, and would encourage more of the social aspect of guilds.

  • @habiki interesting idea but 2 issues

Can't scrap entirely as that punishes people not in guilds
People in multiple guilds....how is this accounted for.

For the first issue, I don't think that's really a problem. If someone isn't in a guild that means they have three open guild slots. They could conceivably create a guild for their self and set the gold rush time for it.

I'd even make the case this is an improvement for them as they can set their guild gold rush hour to something that works for their schedule. I say this as a parent of a small child who can only meaningfully take advantage of gold rush in the spring and summer during the time change.

I understand that this isn't how guilds are intended to be used, but I think it's a minor concession when weighed against the social potential of adding the idea.

As for the second issue, I personally don't think it matters. If someone wants to have three gold rush hours in a days more power to them. That's more people playing the game and sailing around with loot on their ship, which is a win to me.

    That being said......

I can see where Rare and some of the community may disagree. In that case, I'd propose something along the lines of letting people with multiple guilds be able to designate their gold rush guild. You could change it up to once a day, say from 000 - 2400 UTC.

This would prevent people from repeatedly farming multiple gold rushes a day, while still giving guilds a fun and meaningful social feature to encourage some comradery.

  • @habiki I think gold rush was supposed to be a risk and reward tool to encourage lots of people to jump on at the same time, it increases the chances of having to interact with other crews. If rare did the guild thing that random player interaction incentive would be gone. I'm not against it, as I can only really play during gold rush when I've got a day off work, since ones to early in the day while I'm working and the others to late so I've gotta get some sleep for work 😂
(Edited) Forgot how to form coherent sentences apparently 😂

  • @capcorn360 But that will make Gold Rush unavailable for people in EU and US, wich is about 90-95% of the playerbase. It's for a reason the Gold Rush times are what they are. They are made so that they are friendly times for the largest amount of players but also with enough time between them.

  • @rotten-rocko it would be nice if there were guild gold rushes that encouraged guild members to play together at the same time, and encouraged people to be in multiple guilds.

As it stands with there being just one gold rush time it really hurts people that can't regularly be on during that time.

That may be the case for when Rare first implemented it, I'm honestly not sure.

Taking that at face value I still believe a fun new social feature for guilds, that encourages members to actually sail together, is more of a net positive than the original intention.......but I can also acknowledge that my thoughts are just a personal preference.

Speaking from personal experience, I've never planned my day or SoT sessions around gold rush. If the kid is awake or I have plans, I don't just neglect those things because gold rush is active in half an hour.

But I'd get a lot more use out of a custom guild happy hour (and so would my regular crew). I imagine there are many other pirates in similar curcumstances.

  • I would rather they do away with Gold Rush entirely.

It is a product of a by gone era from when there wasn't as much loot in the game and it wasn't that easy to get said loot.

Also it puts a lot of strain on the servers because of giant loot stacks and population density plus everyone rushing to sell their loot stacks, lags the notification systems.

What do you think of my post:

I hear where you're coming from, I actually think the times are fins the way they are. Sure depending on some people's work/school/life schedules they may not always be able to take advantage of it, but the 9-10PM EST/EDT (6-7PM PST/PDT) US time works well because whether you're in New York or California, unless you have a prohibitive conflict, you can pretty much rely on knowing when Gold Rush is every single day to organize your play time around taking maximum advantage of the buff.

And the same would be true for the "EU" gold rush also. Although the EU Gold Rush, depending on which country you're talking about, are generally earlier, in the local timezone, than the NA Gold Rush. So I could see your idea being more relevant for the earlier of the two each IRL calendar day.

If it constantly rotated, UNLESS there was always an in-game timer, it would be more of a "surprise" to sell during Gold Rush, and less of an ability to "plan" your voyages/selling around when Gold Rush starts.

    Thoughts?

  • @habiki
    To the question

People in multiple guilds....how is this accounted for.

Simple. You'd only get the gold rush buff if you were sailing on a ship pledged to the associated guild.

  • Hi all!

Resurrecting threads over one month old goes against our Forum Rules, therefore, I will be dropping anchor here.

    Thanks.
