Improvements to GOLD RUSH given Daylight Savings Time's changes

  • It seems like every year, twice a year when various parts of the world "Spring Forward" or Fall Back" and the clocks change from Standard Time to Daylight Time (or vice versa), and given that some countries and/or even US states do not even observe DST, and not to mention there are even more than a handful or countries that switch anywhere from 1-3 weeks before or after USA switches, there is always MUCH confusion about when Gold Rush Actually is.

And let's be honest, with the exception of the European continent (and even some of them no doubt) + the rest of the world has no idea when UTC is, and only the US can easily calculate Pacific Time rather easily, as those are what is used to communicate to the global player base the 2 times/day when GOLD RUSH IS.

Therefore I would like to suggest:

    1. create an in-game pop-up message, just like the new notification for the Skull of Siren Song, for ALL servers when GOLD RUSH BEGINS, only has 30 MINUTES REMAINING, and IS OVER.

    2. create an icon on seaofthieves.com on the top banner with some sort of small image that at a very quick glance will show that you are currently in the GOLD RUSH hour

    3. Similar to how the selling price of an item is displayed alongside the Emissary bonus anytime something is sold, anything sold during GOLD RUSH, the numeric text is colored gold/yellow in game for a very easy quick glance. This would also be beneficial for G&G, Community Days, etc when items sold are at a fixed increased value.

  • @grantsby great idea, currently it's buried behind too many clicks and menus

  • I LOVE this idea! Don't see why this shouldn't be added!

  • @themartyr050

Agreed! And even when you find it, you still have to do all sorts of conversions to figure out the times!

    thanks

  • @crowmeme

    thanks mate!

  • I like this idea too, would make an excellent quality of life change. And help us keep track of when the bonuses are going on too.

  • I like the idea, but as a developer I have to say the fact that the display is so wonky is a flat out programming failure. Both the Xbox and the PC have localization calls that make it super easy to convert UTC times to local time, whatever that is. There is no reason why the system could not dynamically display the correct time no matter how daylight savings is at the local level because all of that is provided by the OS.

It's programming 101, no offense intended.

wow, that's interesting information - are you suggesting that it it might be possible when navigating to the in-game menus under Pirate Log > Season #> Events> Regular Rewards, rather than a simple image of GOLD RUSH "Daily 17:00-18:00PM UTC and 18:00 - 19:00PM PDT"

it could display the actual times in your local timezone? Furthermore, it could show not only the timezones, but "in 2h 45min" & "and in 10h 45 min"?

  • @grantsby That's it. It's really simple, the game server knows when the event occurs and your PC/Xbox already knows what time/timezone it is.

  • I've wanted an improvement to this for a long time. Who knows if it'll ever change, so for now, I use this site made by Flotsam, which tells you when the next Gold Rush starts and works in all timezones. https://goldrush.flotsam.tv/

  • My friend and I have come up with a similar idea. There is often a lot of confusion for us when Gold Rush is actually happening. Instead of a pop-up message, we wanted to suggest a small gold coin could appear in one of the upper corners of the screen when Gold Rush is active and would obviously not be there at any other time. I feel that this would be an adequate but noticeable signal that you are in that timeframe for the bonus. Others that I have spoken to in the community about this also seemed to like the idea so I figured that I'd add it here as well. I also like the idea that when something is sold during Gold Rush that the value amounts turn gold to further signify the event.

  • Always shocked when I make goldrush as I just automatically assume I missed it (again).

+1 to more visibility in game

  • I agree! It definately needs more in-game visibility!
